I had the same trouble as some others. The supplied cable was pretty tight going into my laptop. Worse than that though, mine will not show up at all on my 16 MacBook Pro. I tried it on other computers, I used different cables that I know are good. The little white indicator light is on but it is not allowing my computer to read it. Sending it back ASAP.

Got it for free with a purchase and it's faulty. Connection not detected on PC via usb-usb-c since there's not a usb-c port on editing machine. USB-C error on laptop. After reading reviews I tried what worked for some others and long-held the CFexpress card in and released it once recognized by the PC. It's not completely reliable though, it has already disconnected twice with that method before my rear settles back on the chair to start transferring footage. Worried it's only going to get worse and I'll be stuck not being able to transfer footage thus delaying projects. Unfortunately there's not many options out there for CFexpress at the moment... so at least it's somewhat working with this method. Still, one star tho. Will pick up a different reader as soon as one with decent reviews is in stock. Would not recommend getting this until lots of good reviews start coming up. Hopefully SanDisk will fix whatever the issue is before supplying more. I like SanDisk products otherwise, what a shame with this product.

Bought this one because it was available. Not too big. I like the click in/click out insertion, but the reader is a little too light to insert without stabilizing the reader with my hand. This would not be a problem, but I use it with a tower pc that has the fast usb port on the rear panel and the cable that comes with this unit is very short. (Turns out that to get the faster read/write speed the usb cable has to be no more than about 1.5 feet long). Because my pc is in my desk pedestal, it makes for a difficult reach. Also, my pc does not reliably find the reader quickly/initiate auto file downloads. I do not know if this is due to the pc, the reader, or the card. But, the drive does show up on my folder tree and I can manually transer files. So, it is not a big ... MoreBought this one because it was available. Not too big. Five stars. It does its job. It's fast, the card fits in the slot. What else is there to say? But here's what really makes it five stars for me: it is heavy. It looks like a cheap piece of plastic, like anything else, but when you hold it in your hand, you can FEEL it. I honestly wondered if SanDisk just put a weight inside of it to make it heavier. You know how things feel cheap and untrustworthy if they are TOO lightweight? I TRUST this card reader COMPLETELY. This may sound like a weird review, but seriously, it makes a big difference. From an ACTUAL functionality standpoint, and not just psychological satisfaction, the weight also matters because it helps keep the reader in one place on your desk and not skidding around all over the place every time you bump the ... MoreFive stars. I got this with my Canon 1dx miii in January. It did not even work. Broke instantly. So I returned to B&H and I appreciate their kind efforts in taking it back and ordering a replacement. Three months later, I got my replacement SanDisk CFexpress Card Reader. The cable was hard to get into the card reader and into my computer, but I finally got the connection to work. PhotoShop would not recognize the card reader. You are much better off using a direct cable to your camera with Canon software. Works fast and is so quick and easy. SanDisk, I am very disappointed in you. You no longer deserve a reputation for quality.
This Thunderbolt connection falls out when you try to plug it in. If it stays in I get a error message saying it is overheating. Looks good on the desk. Beefy looking, but is a kitty cat when using. Over heats and stops working.
I am an amateur bird photographer and often take hundreds of pictures during an outing. I purchased a Type B card reader from another source, only to discover there is a big difference between CFexpress and other Type B cards. This time, I did what I should have done in the first place and initiated a live chat with a B&H tech. representative. After explaining what I needed to do and what I had to do it with, the rep. steered me to the right products and answered questions about the differences between similar products. I finally selected the SanDisk Extreme Pro as it is cheaper but has the same rate of data transfer as some other brands, and a two year warranty. This product is a good value, just don't make my mistake and make sure it is the right card reader for your application.
Got this card reader for less than 24 hours, got it home, plugged my cfexpress card in, it seemed to hold the card and transfer data no problem, after ejecting the card, the locking mechanism didn't want to hold the card anymore, I would now have to hold the card with my hand or place tape over it to keep the pins on the card connected to the pins in the reader, otherwise the card will not be read. I think its a simple design flaw overall.I have seen other reviews from other websites saying the same thing, so if this is happening to you, your not alone. On a light note. Connecting the device to a usb 3.1 port, transferring 61gb(roughly 1 hour of 4k video) of data to a SSD drive, it took about 8min to transfer, not bad.Connecting a standard usb 3.0 cable to the ... MoreGot this card reader for less than 24 hours, got it home, plugged my cfexpress card in, it seemed to hold the card and transfer data no problem, after ejecting the card, the locking mechanism didn't want to hold the card anymore, I would now have to hold the card with my hand or place tape over it to keep the pins on the card connected to the pins in the reader, otherwise the card will not be read. Bottom line, card speeds and usb ports do make a difference.Note: The usb 3.1 cord that comes with it is .5m long(roughly a foot), The device itself is as small as a basic wireless computer mouse.
Many users have reported trouble with this device, but all 3 of mine (supplied with different camera kits) worked perfectly. Perhaps early versions had a design flaw that has been remedied. In any event, the card clicks into place and stays there. Files can be rapidly copied to or from a computer using the Windows OS copy function. When finished, you press the card again, and it pops out. Cards always stay in place; I've never had to hold them in. As listed on the package specs, this item only works with type B CF Express cards. Don't expect to use it with other formats. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because (1) it comes with a USB type C (oval) to type C cable. First, my interest is photography not being conversant or even knowing the latest in USB connectors. If the connection is USB whooziewat, I don't care. Telling me it is a USB C connector tells me nothing. My connectors are older and large size; that's all I know. So I'll be going to a local office store to see if they have the right combination of connectors on one cable and I want a longer cable. Connector games; they're always playing connector games; it is beyond old and exasperating.
