I am seeing just over 400MB/s read and around 350MB/s write. If using very small files and transferring folders with thousands of small files, website backups as a for instance. Works well. Much faster and cooler than I expected. I use quite a few usb drives and this one is blazing fast. It also did not get hot when I copied 15Gb of video from my camera - other ones would be scorching.Very happy with the purchase.

Fastest usb flash I have tested
29 May 2019

Fastest usb flash I have tested. It's at least 4x as fast as Samsung Fit Plus 256GB in write speed. But compared to my past gen Extreme 64GB (not Extreme Pro) it's about 10-15% faster in transferring large files, but for small files the difference is just a few %. Flash drives were connected to USB3.0 ports, maybe the difference would be bigger if connected in 3.1 but I doubt it, since while transfering large files Extreme Pro has spikes of 340MB/s but 99% of the time the speeds are ~200-240MB/s. I also noticed that sliding mechanism is better on my previous gen Sandisk drive. This one has smaller notch which your finger has to grab to slide the mechanism, cause the rest of the surface is very slippery. Would I recommend this drive. Yes I would. But if you want the fast drive with better value I would suggest going with Extreme Go which is ~30% cheaper. If it is fast as it's previous model (Extreme USB 3.0) that is best buy.

I never knew how slow 'Free' USB sticks were....
13 November 2022

Summary: I move a lot of files over USB sticks. By the end of this USB sticks life, i figure it will have saved me thousands of dollars of wasted time. I will be giving away my cheap USB sticks and adding high dollar ones to my key chainI recently had to move several files between computers that were 20+ GBs in size. I grabbed my regular 'give away' USB sticks and went to work. Even though they were "rated" for USB 3.1, the hardware in the cheap USB sticks were limiting the read/write speed to something like 12 MB/second Write / 50 MB/second Read. Some of these files would take 30 minutes for me to move.Knowing that i have to do this process again soon, i spend the money on this 'high dollar' SanDisk Extreme Pro USB 3.2 Flash Drive. Definitely worth the upgrade and everytime i move some of these larger files, im saving 20 minutes of my time. You definitely get what you pay with USB Sticks. I never knew how costly those 'free' USB Sticks are and i will not be using cheap ones ever again.

I'm happy with my purchase.
29 August 2021

I'm using a WD_BLACK 1TB SN850 along with the Extreme Pro 128 on a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port (current fastest Type-A, however it's being relabled). I used an 8.29 GB movie to give you an idea of the time it takes. Transferring from the flash drive to my PC took 19 seconds. Transferring from my PC to the flash drive took 47 seconds. I did both tests a few times and the numbers were the same. I generally got around 320 MB/s transferring to the PC and transfers to the flash drive started off around 330 MB/s but slowed to ~160 MB/s after 30%. The drive does have smaller space than listed (123 GB of free capacity, with mine being set to 115 GB). That doesn't matter much to me, but I know it does to others.

Thank you for discontinuing support for a product before I was even able to buy it. I am speaking specifically about the SDCZ880-1T00-G46 encryption software. This really speaks to your lack of support and care of customers. I will not be purchasing another item from you personally or professionally. PureStorage it is!

Works Great! so far . . .
11 November 2021

The device works great. It truly is very fast. I recommend it for that. My concern is the many reviews of failure. And when it dies the data is lost. But for me, so far, so good, and two months have gone by without any suggestion of problem.

hot item
10 July 2023

It seems as good as any other SanDisk I have purchased. 1 note, it can achieve an even higher temperature than a 256G and even 512G. How this may shorten the life, I don't know. I can only say, with no authority, if you are copying files or other task that sends many gigabytes of data at 1 time. And you are concerned about the temperature of your memory. Then you may wish to transfer fewer gigabytes at a time.Or not, for I am not an expert on what shortens the lifespan of your memory. Just someone who is concerned about how high the temperature can get when using it a lot.
