I believe we purchase close 100 units of those a year, but since it has moved to this mirrored version, we are looking at moving to something else.1st, you don't have a copy if that copy is together with your main one. Sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't. I do think that for certain folks, an NAS might make more sense, but for the scale of my work, this does the job just fine.

If you want Windows RAID0, don't give up. Repeating the process a few times got it to work. It won't necessarily make noise when you're holding the RAID reset switch. Watch for the flashing light. It seems to prefer its own TB3 or USB 3.2 port vs daisy-chaining it. Some drive rearranging solved this.It is a pair of drives that in RAID1 will give at most 240-260 MB/s. Raid0 quite a bit faster. I purchased the 44TB model, it seemed like the perfect edition to my workflow. I edit a project locally using my internal raid, and then move everything over to this box (project, footage, etc). It's not blazing fast but much more accessible than pulling something out of cold storage. 44TB is a nice amount of space to keep recent projects handy. Everything was going great for a week, then The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable. The fun part is that I hadn't backed up a few things before moving them over (I should have known). It looks great on my desk, but it's just a paperweight now, thankfully B&H is great about returns. I'm not sure if the issue is with the SanDisk hardware controller or the WD HDs but either way I'm really disappointed.

This product died on me in less than a year of use. It just stopped working. When it was working, it was fine. My only complaint is that it gets very hot but when it worked, it worked fine.My main issue is their customer support.Attempting to get customer support from WD has been the worst experience. They have awful customer service. I'm still waiting on my replacement after over two weeks of back and forth communications. Luckily, I backed up my data right before it stopped working. I can't imagine in a situation where I needed the data. They have wasted so much of my time on a basic warranty replacement that I wouldn't wish this on anyone. It has made me realize these housing units for the drives are a waste. I've never had my drives fail but I've had housing units fail multiple times. For pro use, it seems a better idea to just manually backup drives using Carbon Copy Cloner and avoid the headache of dealing with their support.

Solid drive but a bit noisy
1 November 2023

I've had my G-DRAID 2 product for a few weeks. Despite the fact that it came with basically no installation instructions I was able to piece together enough info and use some common sense and my computer knowledge to get it installed in a RAID 1 configuration on my Windows 11 Pro system. This product is significantly more noisy than the small external USB drives I was previously using. When the drives are spinning it provides very quick access to my large photo collection. Unfortunately, the device was designed to have the drives shut down or sleep when it's not reading or writing data. That means that many times when I initiate a read or write operation I have to wait a few seconds for the drives to spin up which is a bit annoying. I did confirm with Western Digital that this is the way the drive works, there is no user control that can be used to set a shutdown delay like you can for displays, but the benefit is that this behavior will help reduce power consumption and wear. Despite WD's recommendation to use Device Manager to uncheck a box that lets the computer turn USB devices off, the drives will still spin down a few seconds after a read or write operation is completed. If you're moving a lot of files around this won't be an issues. My Adobe Photoshop family apps also periodically store data on these drives and when they do the apps are in suspension until the drives spin up and the write or read operation is completed. For the redundancy that the RAID 1 configuration provides I can live with the annoyances.

The worst RAID and customer service
26 February 2024

I bought this RAID to use in context of professional video production configured as RAID 1. The housing looks solid and feels sturdy. We had no problem backing up our footage during our 7 Day production. In the edit, the drive kept disconnecting when the software stayed unattended for more than 2min. It takes 10-15sec to reboot each time.Today, the drive randomly disconnected itself and wouldn't turn back on. No fan, no LED, completely dead. I contacted customer support which informed me that I may have a faulty drive and was advised to send the drive to a third party data recovery center. The estimate to back up files is $1200 with no guarantee. Overall, it will cost me $3600 total and the data might be lost forever.

The worst hard drive I have ever used.
30 August 2024

This product is truly awful. After having the first unit I purchased replaced the same failures are occurring with the replacement. After spending days populating the drive with content the drive failed to mount. The only way to fix that issue was to reformat the drive, erasing all the contents. After repeating the days-long process of repopulating the drive the same thing happened again. This time I used software to rebuild the directory. When the directory was rebuilt the drive mounted and most of my content was gone. The whole idea of a hard drive is to store and protect your content. This failure of a product will waste your time and put your content at risk.

Won't mount on restart, slow, Killing G-tech Brand
7 October 2024

The drive works fine. But its deficiencies compared to the old G-Raid models are readily apparent, since I'm running it alongside one of those (TB3 2-bay G-Raid). The old drive always mounts immediately on system boot, and is more responsive and snappy (both are RAID 0). The "Mirror" one never mounts on boot. I always have to manually turn it on and off before the system will recognize that the device is even there, much less boot. This is incredibly aggravating. I have G-Tech drives all over the place, I have relied on them for years. But between this experience and the killing of support for the older G-Tech utilities and drivers, I'm probably not going to ever buy another G-Tech or SanDisk product from you. (Utility gripe: In order to perform any maintenance on my 8-bay G-Speed Studio XL - which I love, btw - I have to pull out an old intel Mac in order to run the utility, and to just mount the device on my Silicone mac, I am running a Pegasus driver workaround. Gimme a break, it's a great product that still runs like a champ, and your failure to maintain support for it will absolutely impact my decision about whether to ever buy another large RAID product from you again).
