I have an older Mac laptop with only 128GB of storage. I haven’t been able to upgrade to the latest iOS for quite some time. Since I couldn’t afford to buy a newer MacAir or MacBook, I decide to purchased a G-Drive and make it my startup hard drive. Now I’ve been able to download and install iOS Monterey. I haven’t had any issues with my older laptop. As infrequent as I use my laptop, I couldn’t justify spending the money on brand new Mac laptop just so I could get the latest operating system. I’m planning on buying another G-Drive to backup all of pictures and videos that’s in my iCloud. The drive is durable, quite, & fast!

Would not show up on two different Windows computers. Tried a different cord. Was going to take it back but decided to try to see if it was something fixable. The computer would make the usual sound when you plug in a USB drive. Disk Manager showed it as having no file system. Recreated the partition, assigned a drive letter, and then it worked, but only gave me 1.8 TB and not the full 2.0 TB.

You can't always count on cloud/internet file storage, so this 1TB drive has you covered. This portable drive is super fast at reading and writing via the USB C connection. It's also easy to set up on Mac and Windows. Even if you don't need to use it frequently, it makes a great encrypted backup for all of your important files and data. And it's small enough to slip into your pocket. Great product.

First impressions are important and the SanDisk Professional 1TB G-DRIVE SSD did not disappoint. Right away It has the feel of a quality built tech item with substance. I used the supplied USB-C to USB-C cord to connect directly to my 2018 Mac Mini running Monterey OS. The cord connection felt positive with no detected slop or looseness. Out of the box it came formatted with Mac OSX Journaled which showed up immediately in Disk Utility as G-Drive SSD. I selected the G drive, clicked "partition" and switched the formatting to APFS. Done. My basic understanding is that the APFS format works faster on up-to-date MAC operating system and files than the preformatted Mac OSX journaled version. It should play nicely with most macs without reformatting, however I work with ... MoreFirst impressions are important and the SanDisk Professional 1TB G-DRIVE SSD did not disappoint. It should play nicely with most macs without reformatting, however I work with large photoshop images and files that add up quickly. After years of backing up with a trusty HDD OWC drive, I smiled as the first 42GB file dragged into the Drive from my mini took about 20 seconds to copy. Holy smokes! The unit remained warm but never hot during the transfer of more than 400 GB of file transfers. It is well vented on both sides. Keep in mind these are my first impressions only. Long term life and durability remain to be seen. So far so good though. Easy peasy for Mac users...how refreshing for a change. I appreciated the input provided by several reviewers for the G Drive and decided to share my experience with others. Hopefully you find it helpful.
This isn't my first G-Drive. They're great. Mty issue was with the supplied usb cables. Specifically the usb-a to usb-c cable. It was unusable and had me scratching my head over 4 hour transfer speeds for 11 gb of data. Swapped the cable to something I had laying around the house and boom I was in business. Lightning fast. Is a good quality usb cable to much of an ask? Seriously disappointed.
This is my first solid state external hard drive, and wow is this thing fast! I'm coming from a 1TB HDD (spinning disk) and it's night and day difference. Not only is this SSD lightyears faster than my old HDD, but you can't hear a disk spinning and it's much more durable because nothing is spinning or moving inside. The case on this G-Drive feels super rugged and I know it will take a beating travelling around in my backpack. The 1TB storage is perfect for my photography hobby, and I love that it has an option for encrypting my files with a password for security purposes. Lastly, it comes with a solid 5-year warranty for peace of mind. Overall, I am very happy that I upgraded to this SSD by SanDisk. I highly recommend this model for anyone looking for a fast and ... MoreThis is my first solid state external hard drive, and wow is this thing fast! First off, I love the design of this external G-drive ssd. The design looks very sleek and it is functional for heat dissipation it seems. Seems rugged for sure because it definitely feels well built. It is a perfect size that can be carried anywhere in your pocket. IP67 water/dust resistant and up to 3M1 drop, 2000lb crush resistant which is pretty crazy. Super fast transfer speeds up to 1GB/s read and write. 5 year warranty is pretty sweet. Overall, an amazing product by SanDisk. Love it!
Sandisk helped out clutch with this G-Drive! 1 TB is a lot of space and I’m thankful to not have to worry about running out of T space anymore. This G drive is fast and very little lag time in processing. Highly recommend anyone to buy one! Sandisk products have always been a family favorite as we’ve been buying their products for years. High quality made products will be why we always stick with Sandisk.
I can't put into words how frustratingly annoying my experiences with this SanDisk hard drives have been. There has been absolutely zero user error on my part. I've been working in video and photo for over a decade, have used LaCie and most recently for past 6 years the Samsung SSDs. Have never had a problem with Samsung ever. (about 8 years ago I had some trouble with G-Drive so would usually skip those, but a friend highly recommended this drive to me). It was overheating and slowing my computer down like crazy, the 4k X-AVC-I footage that is usually a breeze for my macbook pro to handle was impossible to edit without making proxies. I thought it was something wrong with my laptop, fortunately I finished the edit in time but then the following week the hard drive ... MoreI can't put into words how frustratingly annoying my experiences with this SanDisk hard drives have been. I thought it was something wrong with my laptop, fortunately I finished the edit in time but then the following week the hard drive had dozens of problems. I'd plug it in and it wouldn't be recognized, transferring footage was impossible and it couldn't handle 100gbs of raw photos. It kept failing over and over again. I spoke on phone with a few customer respresentatives who were also very frustrating and tried implying it was my fault. I finally got a Warranty request approved and they're going to send me a replacement (I've only had this hard drive for 2 weeks btw). I wish I had kept the packaging and returned to BH so I could get my money back. Fast forward a week later, BH is having a huge sale on their Sandisk Extreme Pro SSDs. Although I've just had a horrible experience with this one, I decided to give SanDisk another chance, I figure this G-Drive branded one was the one with problems. That's a whole other story within itself, but within one day of owning the SanDisk Extreme, I've already had it failed more then a dozen times in just trying to transfer footage over and it keeps making my laptop shutdown. My Samsung T5 from 2016 is better, faster, than either of the SanDisk drives I've used. Luckily I kept the box this time and I'm going to return the Sandisk Extreme Pro and buy Samsung from now. As for this G-Drive, when I get the replacement maybe I'll try to sell because I never want a SanDisk hard drive near me again.
I have had many hard drives over the years, from LaCie and others. I have carried the two and 4 TB solid state drives around the world for lectures, photo storage and video storage. Not a single failure yet on the 2 TB drives in years of use and the 4TB seems to work just as well. Love these drives! and so small and light. I carry them several days per week in my backpack.
