Santa Maria Novella fragrances never disappoint me, still, I was surprised when I sampled Rosa Gardenia 1221. SMN colognes are always elegant, but this EDC is modern, yet classical too. I can picture it on an Edwardian lady’s duchesse, but also at the office or a lazy Sunday brunch. It is quite green, so the white florals aren’t overwhelming. I don’t pick up much of the rose myself, more of the gardenia, green milky fig and musk, but I expect that different people detect different notes with this one. I particularly like green notes, so maybe that’s why I focus on these aspects of Rosa Gardenia. Don’t overspray this one. It may be an Eau de cologne, but it packs a punch and could be overwhelming. Tobacco Toscano is a stunner and its scent profile can definitely compete with contemporary contenders. The opening is fresh tobacco leaf with a touch of smokiness, sweetness, and smooth suede. On the skin, the opening is quite fleeting but sprayed on clothes it lasts a bit longer. As Tobacco Tuscano dries down, powdery vanilla steps forward and is what makes this fragrance perfectly unisex. The overall combination is perfectly smooth and just a touch sweet—comforting and cozy. This is my favorite tobacco scent of all time and I've smelled many. The downside is definitely the longevity. I don't mind that it doesn't project, but because it's an eau de cologne concentration, it's not meant to be long-lasting. Otherwise, this would be a five-star fragrance. I’ve visited the Firenze pharmacy and loved the experience. I didn’t know about the US locations available for online ordering. I follow the brand on social media so was aware of a new fragrance, Rosa Gardenia. That’s what I thought I had ordered. My mistake was Rosa Novella. It is divine. I do wish it had longer longevity. I’ve tried layering with unscented body lotion. Next time I will try gardenia. How could you go wrong with any of these amazing frangrances!
