design and feel of the device is initially great. However, about 6-8 months down the track it started having connectivity issues. I believe issue is mechanical/electrical, with contact surfaces of the connectors struggling after a while. About a year later I had to stop using it altogether, as the smallest move of the laptop or cables would produce scary clicks and pops with loss of picture on the attached external monitor.Considering it could actually damage your Mac or your monitor or both, the device is not worth buying at any price, however low it is.And yes, I am a very careful user, the device hardly ever left my office, so I treated it more carefully than 99% of the users out there...

I would rate 5 stars except for one reoccurring problem I have where the Hub disconnects under heavy load, eg. 3 ports used simultaneously. I would expect a premium product such as this not to have this issue assimilar products are priced much lower ($35 vs $100). This causes me to be unable to make important file transfers using this Hub as I have the constant fear that it may disconnect during a transfer thereby corrupting my files. Otherwise it has great functionality. Lessor complaints include it heating up (probably normal and not a real issue) and the space grey not being a perfect match with the MacBook Pro. My only real complaint is the disconnecting, the others are just somthing to fix in futures versions.

Beautiful, sleek, minimal- love the design.Unfortunately this adapter does not allow as many connections as shown in the photos.-If the HDMI port and power cord are plugged in, the USB ports can not be used simultaneously for data transfer.-An Ethernet connection [required for work] converted into thunderbolt 3 is also not supported through this adapter so it must be connected on the other side of the computer.-My external hard drive with thunderbolt 2 [which is now connected with a thunderbolt 3 adapter] is also not supported on this adapter and must be connected to the last remaining port. This means to transfer between a thumb drive or charge my mouse I must disconnect either internet, or external hard drive, move the power port then connect the new thumb ... MoreBeautiful, sleek, minimal- love the design.Unfortunately this adapter does not allow as many connections as shown in the photos.-If the HDMI port and power cord are plugged in, the USB ports can not be used simultaneously for data transfer.-An Ethernet connection [required for work] converted into thunderbolt 3 is also not supported through this adapter so it must be connected on the other side of the computer.-My external hard drive with thunderbolt 2 [which is now connected with a thunderbolt 3 adapter] is also not supported on this adapter and must be connected to the last remaining port. This means to transfer between a thumb drive or charge my mouse I must disconnect either internet, or external hard drive, move the power port then connect the new thumb drive.I’m not a formal product reviewer, but to try and connect what was used on my previous 2015 macbook pro to this 2017 model is very difficult with this adapter. I would suggest exploring other options.

Didn't last long
24 July 2018

I was very happy with this adapter at the beginning and it worked great. However, within a couple of months, it would not hold the connection. I couldn't use a flash drive on it, I couldn't enter my memory card to view pictures, and I couldn't charge my phone or computer through it. The only thing I could do was print, and to do that, I had to press the printer cord (USB style) tightly into the port and apply constant pressure without moving it. If it wiggled even a small bit, the connection was lost and my page would be printed with only have the words on it. It is pretty much useless to me now. I noticed that the connectors -- the small silver parts that fit into the thunderbolt ports on the side of the computer (pardon my un-technical language :-) -- were loose ... MoreI was very happy with this adapter at the beginning and it worked great. I noticed that the connectors -- the small silver parts that fit into the thunderbolt ports on the side of the computer (pardon my un-technical language :-) -- were loose and wiggled back and forth easily. I'm guessing that that is the problem. All this said, I do not know whether the product was of poor quality, whether that particular adaptor was of poor quality, or whether I didn't take good enough care of mine and that is why it is damaged. Judging by the good reviews this product has, I find it hard to believe that the whole line is bad. Nevertheless, this was my experience. I am thinking about ordering a new one because I really need the USB ports but I may order one with a cord connection instead.

Excellent port replicator plus more
3 April 2022

I love this. I principally bought it so I could easily read the SD card from my camcorder while still replicating the existing USB3 ports and also having an old-school USB port for my antique cordless mouse and HDMI for my monitor. It does all of this great. I plug/unplug it many times a day as I move between workspaces, crisply and with a very positive connection. I highly recommend it.

Great but there are some problems...please help
4 September 2017

I first bought product this in August. The first few weeks were great. I could charge my phone and laptop as well as import files to my flash drives. However, I noticed that sometimes when I used the adapter to charge my phone it would go on and off. I thought it was just the usb cord since charging my laptop using the hub was perfectly fine. Just recently, I used my flash drive and it kept ejecting randomly- even when the computer was still. Also, I noticed that the little, bright light was flickering. I have the adapter plugged in my laptop right now and the light won't turn on unless I touch it. Please help, I really want to love this product.

How awesome is this
3 June 2020

I recently purchased a gold MacBook Air and was really miffed when Apple didn't supply any accessories in Gold. I saw the ones a local retailer in my area was selling a Type-C Pro Hub Adapter which looked awesome but they only had it in silver.I went home, got on the web and noticed Satechi did it in Gold. I needed this so I placed an order not really knowing when I would receive the items due to COVID-19 . I thought shipping may have been quite expensive as well.I needn't have worried. The item was shipped the next day and it arrived within 4 business days, going from San Diego to Melbourne. It was better than I expected and the packaging was terrific.Would I purchase anything else from Satechi - Most definitelyKeep up the good work

Poor performance, bends your usb-c/tb ports
26 November 2019

I bought it like 1.5 year ago, first failure was in the first week when the HDMI signal randomly started jumping, I didn't do anything with warranty since I was very short on time with my projects and could accept a jumping signal for a couple of weeks. As time went by, it started behaving even more weirdly. Currently HDMI and USB-A just randomly works or doesn't work at all. Power jumps when plugging stuff in. My USB-C ports seem to be strained by this awkward "extension" shape. Overall, I cannot recommend this product at all. Original Apple AV adapter which I had at my previous job worked pretty much perfectly for the nearly 1 and 3/4 years during which I worked there.

Review of Aluminum Type-C Pro Hub Adapter.
20 August 2018

Haven’t had a chance to use all the inputs yet, but I do have the following reflections:1. The potential for damage to the unit and Motherboard are great due to the way it attaches and sticks out. It’s designed for a “laptop”, hence the units are going to get moved around and possibly sustain damage.2. In theory its a great concept with the “All in One” principle.3. After editing a number of pictures with the power USB-C plugged in to the unit I found that the Hub was getting very hot. In a way it almost became a heat sink. Will continue to give it a further work-out as time passes. Thank you for thinking of and developing this unit.

Sleek Adapter, Can Get Warm
6 November 2021

This is a sleek adapter that adds a lot of value to my 2020 M1 Macbook Air (in terms of port functionality). It attaches very securely, and can sometimes be a little tough to remove, but I'd prefer it be harder to remove than the alternative. I won't lie, I got this on a discount and that's pretty much the biggest reason I could justify the $85 (after discount). Adapters are expensive, unfortunately, but this one feels sturdy and feels like it will stand the test of time. It does get rather warm when I'm using it just with the HDMI, but as long as you're careful and don't rest your hand on it, it shouldn't be a problem.
