Saucony Endorphin Speed 2

Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 certainly won ́t disappoint you if you enjoyed the first version. Saucony have preserved the very popular and praised midsole and changed a few things in the upper to improve one of the most popular running shoes in 2020. You still get a fast running shoe which provides the sensation of effortless speed but now you also get an improved heel support, more room for your toes in the forefoot and a different mesh material. Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 Specifications Speedroll Technology PWRUN Midsole Full-length TPU plate. Improved upper Upper Saucony have changed the heel, so the shoe wraps itself better around your foot and there is more space around the forefoot, so your toes are able to move. A new mesh upper provides great support but also offers superb breathability. And last but not least the laces have been changed to ensure a perfect fit. Midsole Saucony haven ́t changed anything from the previous model and this makes sense as there was no room for improvement. You still get a midsole with PWRRUN PB, a full-length TPU plate and Speedroll technology. The combination of the soft and light PWRRUN PB and the rigid TPU plate works perfectly to make the shoe pop along at every step. In addition the Speedroll technology provides terrific propulsion. All these components work together to provide an amazing and fast running shoe. Outsole Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 is designed with a rubber compound outsole which provides a great grip at every step and at the same time provides stability in sharp turns.

A Versatile 'Super Shoe'

The Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 is a highly regarded shoe, with many runners reporting it can perform well with daily training, workouts, long runs and racing. After using this shoe for all of these purposes, I'd agree that for many runners, this could be a do-it-all shoe. It may not suit everyone though. I have spoken with a couple of female runners who found the shoe too unstable for them to use as a daily shoe. I can confirm that it does feel slightly unstable in the heal at slower speeds. This feel disappears as the pace increases to 4:40 minutes/km and beyond. I found this shoe more stable than some other racing shoes however, such as the Nike Vaperfly. As with most Saucony shoes I've tried (Freedom, Ride, Kinvara), the durability looks like it will be better than average. This shoe feels like a 'super shoe' with a high stack, bouncy foam and a rigid, snappy feel. While perhaps not as comfortable, stable and durable as some heavier daily trainers, it is better in each of these areas than most 'super shoes' making it suitable for a wider variety of purposes. Overall, I would highly recommend it for those looking to go long (15km+) and fairly fast. I would probably choose another shoe for shorter runs or very fast racing.

Don't let its label as a speed trainer throw you off. This is a very fast but very versatile shoe thanks to great PWRRUN PB foam, light weight and a nylon plate (that I barely feel). I use this shoe as a daily trainer 6-7 days a week for speed, hills, tempo and long runs (40-45 Mi/week). It does the work of two or three shoes and very well. Over 200 miles in these and very little signs of wear. The fit is comfy in forefoot and true to size. The one fit complaint I have is common to all the first and second version of the Endorphin shoes is heel lockdown is not great. For me it was horrible in first versions of speed and pro and has been greatly improved for second versions, but is still lacking. But its nothing that tying a racers loop can't handle. In the past couple of years I've run hundreds of miles each in Hoka Cliftons & Bondis, Brooks Glycerins, and Nike (Zoom Tempo, ZoomX Invincibles, and raced in Alphafly). I've run several hundred with the Endorphin Speed 2 and these are hands down my favorite shoes. They offer cushy comfort with energy return on long days and light weight speedy transition on speed or tempo days. The bottom line is I am a much faster runner wearing these shoes across all distances.

Excellent cold weather version of Speed 2
24 November 2021

The Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 is an amazing shoe; it’s very responsive and provides a deep and balanced cushioning that isn’t overly soft. It is a very fast shoe that is well suited to tempo and speed work, and is a viable option for race day. I have used the shoe for slow runs and hills training, and it excels there too. Many running sites/blogs have called the Speed 2 a versatile do it all shoe; it is and does that well, but I would still want a softer shoe for recovery days or really slow runs, and I have the Pro for track workouts and race day in good weather. The Speed 2 has decent ventilation and a firm outsole that should have good durability, and my size 11 came in at 8.7 oz.The Speed 2 RunShield edition came in at 8.45 oz; 0.25 oz less than my Speed 2 ... MoreThe Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 is an amazing shoe; it’s very responsive and provides a deep and balanced cushioning that isn’t overly soft. The upper is warmer; which is what I am looking for in a winter shoe, and the midsole didn’t firm up at 6C like standard EVA does. The RunShield coating is not water proof; it is water resistant, and runs through puddles and in moderate rain ended up with a semi wet upper, and mostly dry and warm feet after 12KM (my feet would have been soaking wet and cold in the Speed 2). The outsole is softer than the Speed 2/Pro, and is tacky to the touch. I didn’t run on painted lines, but the shoes provided solid traction on both asphalt and concrete.I love these shoes for tempo and long runs, and will use these for race day in either wet or cold conditions; so long as there isn’t any snow or ice.I would absolutely buy the Speed 2 RunShield again, and I recommend them highly.

Fast shoes

I normally run in Brooks and I shop sales—I’m not overly picky about running shoes as long as they are quality shoes (no Nikes). My sons prefer Saucony, and when these shoes came on sale online around the 4th of July of 2021, I bought them for my youngest son (my last of five sons who ran HS XC) and picked up a pair for myself to experience the difference. I saved them for my next marathon, which I ran on October 1, 2022 (St. George, Utah), only using them for about 50 miles during my 16-weeks of training to make sure they were broken in before the race. I really like these shoes! I nearly beat my 2013 marathon PR when I finished in 3:04:24 as a 55 year old, placing 2nd in my age group and 215th overall, and qualifying for Boston 2024 by over 30 minutes. Great fit and features, but slips on wet track
11 November 2022

In shopping for my next pair, this shoe really brought a key topic to mind. Anyone who has done speed work on a track in Endorphin shoes when the track is damp/wet experience the slippage as you either accelerate or run the turn. Could be injury inducing, if not careful, and certainly slows us down on the curve. So I find it ironic that this RunShield version of my favorite shoe (Endorphin) is made to be "water-resistant", yet the soles look even more slip-prone, should you do track work in wet weather. Perhaps this is not an issue for those who run on roads or trails...? Any chance there will be more track-friendly shoes coming our way that would have all the benefits of the Endorphins, but with better sole traction?

So comfortable but…
25 September 2022

Bought these at the end of July ran in them a hand full of times. They are incredibly responsive and comfortable. They are quite water resistant also. Definitely for colder weather as they do they’re job keeping your feet warm and dry. Best color combo for a shoe I’ve seen in a while also…that being said I’ve had the shoes for a little over 2 months and one of the interior heals has a hole in it already. I have not abused these shoes because they are currently my favorite shoe. I’m disappointed in the quality of the interior of these shoe. I want to be able to recommend these shoes but the quality of the internal material is sub standard imo. Wish they held up longer than 2 months wanted to see how they would hold up in the fall and winter.

The undisputed workhorse
27 June 2022

The Saucony Endorphin Speed 2’s offer a unique blend of responsiveness, comfort, and rigidity. This combination allows for seamless transition between faster paced runs and casual ‘easy jogging’. This makes the Endorphins a workhorse any runner should include in their shoe lineup. The new Saucony foam technology with the hybrid plate provides an edge over competitors at an equal price point making the Endorphin Speed 2 a must have. The well engineered base is made to go the distance with a reinforced rubber outsole to provide necessary protection for ware and tear. Finally, the feather-like weight of the Endorphin ensures your legs don’t need to over work slugging a heavy shoe. The perfect overall shoe for any runner at any ability!
