Amazing saw, but a couple of disappointments

I love almost everything about it.I was surprised, though, to be a little underwhelmed by a few things. The extension table is not impressive. The mechanism to secure the legs in position doesn't really do the job adequately. Another thing that aggravates me is the way the controls box mounts to the saw. There are a couple of cap screws that are difficult to install and really don't seem to hold the controls solidly in place for very long. The miter gauge is really basic. Not sure what I was expecting, but this is not really much of an upgrade from the one that came with my old Craftsman ... MoreI wish that I could leave a review of 4.8. This is a great saw! I probably would have omitted those items from the order and spent a little more money on better ones, if that was an option. Maybe I missed something when I ordered...?All that said, the saw itself is fantastic!

The fit and finish rival that of Powermatic, but at a much lower price point, and of course if I ever DO make a mistake and put a finger into the running blade, it is comforting to know that the damage will be minimal.

Great Experience - Super Product

I purchased this in store at the Springfield, MO location and my experience could not have been better. IF YOU HAVE NEVER VISITED A GRIZZLY STORE.... MAKE THE EFFORT TO GO. I always love visiting the showroom. They have every tool, every option, and every accessory available to see and touch on the floor. You are free to roam and check out the entire catalog in person. This really helped me in my decision for what version of this saw would fit my space and plan ahead for what options I would like to add on in the future. The checkout and load out process was so simple and pleasant it made me almost forget my usual post purchase blues and plan ahead for the conversations at home of how much money I actually spent. The cashier was helpful in locating and pricing accessories and options. The in store pickup was quick and efficient. The loading dock staff not only helped me manipulate my multiple boxes into a difficult enclosed trailer, but they also opened and re-boxed the cabinet when a hole was discovered in the box. On to the saw. This thing is impressive. The packaging was above and beyond excellent. Everything had a perfect place and was designed perfectly to protect even the smallest piece. All cast or metal parts are evenly coated with product to resist corrosion or rust during transport or storage. I had to unpack and rush it all into the shop by myself in a downpour so learn from my mistake... there's a lot of stuff and its heavy, bring a friend (I bumped the motor cover and cracked it). The assembly process is foolproof with Sawstops hardware packaging system and over the top instructions. I recommend reading thoroughly as you go since the hardware is packaged to work with multiple models or accessories. There are steps that require finesse and there will be unused nuts and bolts (specifically with my 36 fence installation). I accomplished the entire build by myself in a few hours. The only issues I had were putting on the integrated base/standing this beast up and trying to balance the cast tables while starting the bolts. Final setup is simple and easy to get everything dialed in. Again the directions were perfect for setting the clearance on the fence, the cartridge, and the glide assembly. It comes standard with an a/c style plug, so I rigged an adapter to transition to my larger plugs in my shop since it wont have a permanent home for a while. I havent got to use it much yet but I can tell its going to serve me well. Do I love Grizzly Tools experience...yes Do I regret my purchase.. no Would I buy it again.. yes Would I be more careful unpackaging...yes Do I have bad luck and is this product right for me... beyond a doubt. Is my garage a total wreck in the attached picture...dont judge me. Would I do anything different... possibly. The integrated base is VERY NICE, if you are going to leave this saw in place and only move to clean or occasional maintenance.... its for you. It takes little effort to mechanically raise the saw, even with the 36 inch extension. For me, right now, without a permanent placement, the industrial base is definitely the Cadillac of the two and it wouldve been worth the extra $100. Might upgrade later.

Just another 5 star review

I had a 13 year old original Delta hybrid saw. There was nothing wrong with that saw and I had spent the time to calibrate it so it made very accurate and repeatable cuts. The only reason for me to replace that saw was to get the SawStop safety feature. In January 2019 I decided to go ahead and make the purchase.I figured if I was going to spend this much on a saw I should go ahead and get the 3hp motor as well as the ICS base. The saw came very well calibrated, the blade / table are parallel / square with less than 0.001" error as measured with a dial indicator and jigs.I really didn't expect the user experience to be any different than using the Delta saw but I am very pleasantly surprised.Everything about the SawStop is more substantial, smoother, heavier, ... MoreI had a 13 year old original Delta hybrid saw. The saw came very well calibrated, the blade / table are parallel / square with less than 0.001" error as measured with a dial indicator and jigs.I really didn't expect the user experience to be any different than using the Delta saw but I am very pleasantly surprised.Everything about the SawStop is more substantial, smoother, heavier, .... it's just a better machine.I also didn't know if I would notice the extra horse power but even cutting 1" hardwoods the extra power is quite noticeable.I don't think about the blade brake feature much at all, but the riving knife is always right there and having it really does give me greater confidence that kickback will not happen.I know all modern saws have the riving knife but this is my first experience with one and SawStop really got it right. It's heavy duty, does not interfere with any of the cuts or the Grrripper push pads, and it's very easy to put on / take off.The brake cartridge is also easy to swap out for the dado stack.I don't have anything negative to say about this machine. If you're on the fence about getting one of these I encourage you to go ahead and do it.

Not Disappointed ! (and I'm pretty picky)

Extremely well built saw and fence system. It seems like a really good saw even without the safety of the electronic blade stop. Installation instructions are very good, with 'poster' style, simplified instructions that cover most of the install before opening the actual owner's manual. Input from experienced woodworkers helped me decide on the 36 in fence instead of the 52 in for my 20' X 20' shop.

Quality saw.

Terrific saw. Arrived well packaged and on time. Very well written set-up instructions (~2-3 hours for a full set up and tuning). It’s nice to see a company that puts quality time into their owners manuals written and well edited by people who actually speak English and have seen the mistakes that can easily happen first hand. After a couple projects, I’m fully satisfied with the power, quality and utility of the saw.I also bought the SawStop out feed table. Safe saw....More important a great table saw.

I recently upgraded from a contractor saw that did not offer the power or dust collection I need for my hobby woodshop. I looked at all the quality cabinet saws offered by the main manufacturers and easily decided on the Sawstop. Everyone has seen the hotdog video showing the safety features of this saw and I too was impressed but that is not the main reason I choose Sawstop. When you consider all of those things Sawstop was a clear winner. The fit and finish on their saws are second to none. The trunnions and arbor are heavily constructed and the arbor is supported by large bearings. The riving knife is easy to change with no tools required. The blade has a dust shroud wrapping the lower portion of the blade where dust is carried away by a 4" flexible dust hose. Above the table the blade guard has integrated dust port which gathers any dust not being gathered from below. The arbor is powered by two v-ribbed belts that ensure solid vibration free power from the motor. The T-Glide fence moves freely and locks securely along it's 36" travel. The extention table is heavy, flat, and has a nice matte finish. The assembly manual is the best I have seen. The instructions are clearly illustrated with clear color pictures and walks you thru the process step by step. It is almost impossible to not get this saw setup properly with the instruction Sawstop provides. Oh and did I mention it has unmatched safety features with their flesh sensing technology. If you really look at a Sawstop and compare the features of this cabinet saw there is no choice but to choose Sawstop. I did!!

Sawstop safety feature, ER still required
20 December 2021

I bough my Sawstop from Rockler in 2017, everything has been great. I just want people to know that you can have a more serious injury than a small knick. The safety feature is the reason I bought the saw. We have all seen the videos of the safety feature working and nothing happens to the user. I tripped the saw mid December of 2021, required a trip to the ER and stitches. Thankfully missed the bone and tendon. Yes it did stop and it did save my finger, but it did still require a trip to the ER. I haven’t seen any reviews with any actual injuries, so I thought people should know that it can be more than a knick.

Terrible customer service.....
22 March 2023

I'm not sure what is going on with this company, but I'm not impressed now that I have had to deal with their customer service. I have an older 3HP 52" PCS. I recently purchase all the parts to convert my 52" to the 36". I purchased them directly through SawStop thinking that I they would take care of me if there was a problem. I received all the parts. New rails, new, extension table, etc. There was an obviously decline in quality with the new parts. In fact, the extension table is a complete joke. It's made from the softest wood I've ever worked with and it's so warped I couldn't get it level at all. Naturally, I contacted Support. Over a week later they finally responded. They did offer to send a replacement, but I didn't trust that it would be any better ... MoreI'm not sure what is going on with this company, but I'm not impressed now that I have had to deal with their customer service. It's made from the softest wood I've ever worked with and it's so warped I couldn't get it level at all. Naturally, I contacted Support. Over a week later they finally responded. They did offer to send a replacement, but I didn't trust that it would be any better given the materials used. Nearly a week past before they responded again and they said there are NO RETURNS....even on defective parts. It does say "No returns" if you dig into it on their website, but NOWHERE during the checkout process is that mentioned. I questioned their shady policy and it has been another 13 days with no reply. They simply don't care. They are just churning out junk made in China and living off their safety patent and paid reviews. Quality is no longer there. Since I don't trust that I will ever get quality parts in the future I'm selling this saw on Craigslist and buying a Powermatic. If you know what you are doing and respect the tool, you don't need their overpriced safety mechanism. Based on the current quality of their products, I don't think I would trust their safety mechanism anyway.
