IJapanese Curry Mix, Golden Curry, Medium Hot This is deliciousness in a box! However, you do need to put a little work in. Now I didn't completely follow the directions on the box. First, I took 2lbs of chicken thighs, skin and bone in, seasoned with salt, pepper, and a little bit of sugar (this gives a nice carmalization to the skin). Take a large sauce pot, add 3tbsp of oil to medium high heat. Add seasoned thighs and cook for 5 min on both sides. Remove and let rest. Add sliced onions, diced celery, and wedge cut rolled carrots, add large diced green peppers to pot and Sautee for 5-6min. Splash vinegar (about 2-3tbsp) in pot to break up the brown bits at the bottom, add 2tbsp butter. Then add wedge cut potatoes and yams, season with 1tsp paprika, 1tsp ginger ... MoreIJapanese Curry Mix, Golden Curry, Medium Hot This is deliciousness in a box! While that is cooking, turn your attention to the chicken. Debone it and cut into bite-sized piece (don't toss the bones, they have plenty of meat and lots of flavor). Add chicken, bones too, to the pot. Toss everything and add 5 cups of water to the pot and bring to boil. Reduce heat, add 2 bricks of Golden Curry to the pot, cover and simmer for 20 minutes, stir occasionally. Add salt and pepper to your liking. If it seems unbalanced, stir in a pinch of sugar. Serve over white rice or noodles. Makes about 10 to 12 servings.

I keep these in my pantry. It's always a great dinner go-to. Don't be deceived by the designated heat-level; this curry is a nice level of heat without being overpowering. I serve this aside jasmine rice and it really hits the spot when I've got a cold, I have been making this once a week for the last 5 years! I never get tired of it, and my husband loves it too. This is spicy, but I still add a lot of crushed red pepper to it when I am cooking the meat. Sometimes I'll even add some more curry powder. Pretty much any type of veggie is great in this curry. I'd say the most common are onions, broccoli, bell peppers, carrots, and potatoes. A must have pantry staple

Tastes exactly like curry I used to eat back home. So easy to prepare. I usually chop my favourite vegetables like onion, courgette, carrot and mushrooms, stir fry first then add water. Before adding curry, reduce the heat down to very low otherwise it doesnt melt very well. Goes well with homemade chicken katsu or chicken karaage!
My go to easy comfort food, family love it. So easy to make, tastes superb with white rice. If you really cant be bothered with the faff get something like a moy park buttermilk chicken burger ( thick and delicious breaded chicken fillet) that goes beautifully with this katsu curry and rice. Or even reasonable quality chicken goujons/nuggets work. Or go to the trouble of making a tonkotsu pork fillet to go with it - whatever mood takes you this is awesome stuff!
I forgot to take a photo because I wasn’t going to write a review but this product has the California Law notice regarding containing lead. It is interesting that you don’t see that notice in the Target images but it is on the box. California is obligated to add a notice if any of their food, jewelry etc has lead in it which is why it does mention that it’s a California law that forces them to mention it on the box. FYI, I did eat it at my own risk and it did taste like the Japanese curry I ate at an asian restaurant. I add potatoes, carrots and white onions like the box say in its instructions.
I love this curry! It's very simple but nice and flavorful. Expect it to be a bit salty, but it's so simple to make and delicious. If you find it too salty, just add a little extra water. It's flavorful enough that you won't notice it being diluted much! I simmer mine with chicken and potatoes! It's not really spicy at all- and I say this as somebody who does NOT like spicy food. I really love it! I'll be buying this frequently :-) !
Instructions work okay but I figured out this product works way better if you use extra liquid and allow it to slowly reduce over 45 minutes to 1 hour. I cut chicken things into 3 pieces. That leaves me with nice thick chunks. I then dust those with a little corn starch and brown them in my wok. Add about 50% more liquid and allow it to slowly simmer. Add the vegies back in towards the end and the chicken just melts in your mouth.
This sauce mix will turn just about any selection of veggies and meat into a Japanese stew perfect for serving over rice, with enough spice to warm your body but not enough to burn your tongue. Kare raisu is a staple Japanese comfort food, and this makes it super easy.EXPERIMENT with this. Use different meats and vegetables based on what's cheap or what you like. The classic uses carrots, potatoes and onion- onion is important, never skip it. Everything else is up to you. I've been making it with jicama instead of potato, stewing can't defeat its crunch which adds a very nice texture to the finished product. I've also tried sweet corn, chickpeas, peppers, snap peas, oranges, and lots of other things. It's hard to find a loser. Pork seems to be the best meat to use ... MoreThis sauce mix will turn just about any selection of veggies and meat into a Japanese stew perfect for serving over rice, with enough spice to warm your body but not enough to burn your tongue.
