This was my third pair of Scarpa boots, so I was expecting good things, however the manufacturing quality isn't as good as previously. The toe cap on the Kalaish is glued whereas my previous two pairs were both glued and sewn. I used these boots for only a few weeks, with a couple of rainy days and the glue failed. The toe cap started coming away and the interior lining bunched up, putting pressure on my toes.Unlike my previous boots which were worn in extreme conditions (eg snow in the Himalayas), these boots were worn in urban environments only.On the plus size, the fit was true and the boots were otherwise comfortable

I love my new Scarpa Kailash boots! Very comfortable straight out of the box. I will be honest in saying I thought initially they felt a little hard on the foot, restrictive around my ankles and a tad weighty but that's more likely because I haven't worn hiking boots (or boots of any kind) for 20 odd years! What I have worn a lot is light weight sneakers/runners. Now, having worn them on a few short walks, out to the shops and around the house, all the sensations of a new shoe have dissipated and I would happily now describe them as almost like a comfy slipper! The boots are amazingly comfortable. I have worn them on camping trips with some water crossings, hiking, general outdoor activities, and also some around the house work. Once I figured out how to tie them to fit my foot better I couldn't hardly tell I had them on. They breathe well and my feet feel fresh and dry. I also wear wool socks which add to that. That traction is there for me in everything I've put them through. I believe I've found my new favorite boots.

My girlfriend and I each purchased Kailash trek goretex boots in May 2019. These are excellent boots, like all Scarpa products, that we've enjoyed on a number of adventures. However, during our last multi-day hike in the outbacks of Vancouver Island, on the Golden Hinde trail, the soles began to come off on both of our pairs. Mine made it through the hike, luckily, but not my girlfriend's, and she had to finish the hike without any rubber soles at all (see attached pictures). Needless to say, this is disappointing performance from such a crucial piece of gear, especially at its price point. I bought these boots a few weeks ago for day hikes, city/park walks. Impressed by the lightness, fit and good traction vs my previous much heavier boots. Hiked mud, snow and gravel recently. No breakin period. Looking forward to doing more with them. For now , they have met my expectations and somewhat more.

The only boots at the time I found to check all my boxes were made by Asolo. They felt great in the store. They felt great just casually walking around. But on the trail, they gave me terrible heel blisters. I decided they were a half size too small, so I returned them for a half size larger. The fit was nearly identical to my old boots. They DID give me a mild heel blister the very first time I wore them, but I attribute that to being new boots, and also to the fact that I had not hiked in two months at the time. Subsequent hikes (I've probably got 40+ miles on them now) have not caused any additional blisters, and the Kailash boots are totally comfortable and really sturdy. In fact I love them so much I ordered a second pair to have in reserve so I don't have to go through this drama again when I need my next new pair! My only complaint so far is that they are just a tiny bit more snug than my old Scarpas, and when I try to install my standard Superfeet aftermarket footbeds, the fit is just a little too snug. I'm hoping they may loosen up just a bit with use, and that the suede may stretch just a little so I can install my Superfeet footbeds.

Would gladly give it five stars but for one issue. The insole that comes in the boot is paper thin with almost zero cushion which I'd imagine would be uncomfortable after long miles.That being said. After putting a pair of superfeet insoles in them they were perfectly comfortable.That being said I wore these boots with about a weeks worth of minimal break in and then went on a multi day backpack elk hunt and they performed flawlessly with everything I threw at them. Rocky sections, creeks, almost vertical ascents and descents, and mud. not positive on overall mileage on the trip but somewhere near 11mi, zero blisters, minimal hotspots. Will most likely buy another pair.
Very durable boot, I found I got some pretty bad hotspots though when hauling a 20-22kg backpack up in the Victorian alps, but I don't have this problem if I'm walking without a load. I have to tie the laces in a specific fashion to prevent bad blisters/hotspots. The original Scarpa insole was pretty average, I replaced it with a Sidas one. My size 45s weigh in at 1.6kg which is pretty heavy, mostly I prefer to be in my Vivobarefoot Tracker II FGs (1.15kg) unless the terrain is too gnarly. The barefoot style boot is, hands down, much more lighter, comfortable and agile. I'm still trying to decide if these Scarpas will come with me when I go back to the Himalayas.
These Scarba hiking boots are made of durable materials and rugged construction. However, it's worth noting that the width is on the narrow side, which can be a challenge for those with wider feet. I usually wear a size 12 in sneakers and a size 11.5-12 in these boots was too small and I unfortunately had to return them. I would recommend going half a size up for these Scarpa boots.
