Despite unclear instructions, installation was easy. Lock mechanism works well, fit a standard door without issues. Easy to program, lock, and unlock. I can only give 3 because this product just feels cheap. Everything feels loose and rattles, and the inside thumbturn goes easily 30 degrees in either direction before engaging the actual locking mechanism. It felt so bad that I went back to the store and, with the help of a store worker, tried a couple other of the same lock, they all were approximately the same. 29 July 2024

After using several brands of smart locks I settled on Schlage a few years ago. Simply put, their hardware, electronics, design, and the installation are the best. I usually use motorized locks, but in this case decided to use an un-motorized version because I cannot predict whether the door will always be shut fully or continue to align so that the bolt can go in and out easily. Plus, I do Not need remote control over the lock. I put it in a door between the house and the built-in garage, replacing the original keyed deadbolt. This eliminates needing to get a key out to lock the door when leaving. We just press the leg button on the keypad and The thumb lever To lock it. I only wish that Schlage or someone would invent a strike plate that is adjustable for doors that have a strong seal around the perimeter, and therefore require the user to pull on the door handle in order to make the deadbolt go in.

[Rewarded Review] Great docs, it works well, but key is hard to use
15 September 2024

As usual, Schlage excels at making easy to follow documentation and products that are well made and relatively easy to install. At least there are no unpleasant surprises. I mostly use their motorized deadbolts but in this application (entry door to attached garage) figured I could save a few bucks and expect longer battery life by skipping the motor. With this lock you enter the code, and if it's correct the exterior "thumbturn" becomes usable for retracting the deadbolt for a few seconds. (otherwise it just spins freely). Likewise, to lock the deadbolt you press the top Schlage button and the rotating thumbturn lets you extend the deadbolt. Both actions can be performed using a single hand, which is handy if you are holding a bag of groceries with the other ... MoreAs usual, Schlage excels at making easy to follow documentation and products that are well made and relatively easy to install. When you insert it in the lock to test it, it just spins around. It never "catches" and operates the deadbolt. I couldn't find anything about this in the docs so I called Schlage and learned that you must press in on and turn the thumbturn and then use the key. Talk about cumbersome! And try explaining or even demonstrating it to a mate who has difficulty remembering modern technology's penchant for unintuitive multi-step operations (e.g., hold down command+alt+shift and press the D key to unlock the computer).

[Rewarded Review] Random failures
2 November 2024

We have 5 of these locks. One of them stopped working where it recognized the code but the bolt would not turn any longer. We had to return/exchange it. Another one did the exact same thing but magically started working again later that same day after several additional attempts.Another lock all of a sudden disabled the Turn Lock feature so you have to enter the code to lock the door now as well. We have attempted to enable it and have reset the lock to factory settings as well with no luck. It’s quite aggravating to have to enter the code to lock it each time.We also tried replacing the battery with a new battery in each case above with no luck. When the locks are working they are great locks and we love them, but they have too many random issues/errors.

[Rewarded Review] Reliable, battery-efficient, and secure

We've been using one of these daily for over 8 years, and we've only recently completed the second battery change. Since this design has the user operate the bolt as opposed to using a solenoid, it barely uses any battery. We haven't had any issues other than low battery. (And my one complaint is I wish it did have some sort of explicit low battery indication rather than just becoming unreliable. If you don't want to risk it possibly not working, it might be a good idea to change the batteries yearly like smoke alarms.) We've just installed our second one on a different door, and installation is a breeze. I purchased this keypad deadbolt about seven years ago because my step children couldn’t key track of their keys to our home. Instant solution. But beyond convenience, the lock mechanism is very robust. It gives a great quality feel when operating it from inside or out. The reliability is superior. When my first one finally quit I took it completely apart looking for a fix since I’m a mechanical nerd but could not find the fault. At this point I learned of the strength and quality of the internal construction. Upon contacting Schlage I was immediately connected with a knowledgeable technician not some phone operator. I will always drop the extra little cash on Schlage for their better build quality and superior locks! Thanks Schlage for not cheap'ing out!
