One does not have to be super handy to make the installation. Most of the standard deadbolts can be replaced with no additional holes to drill or changes to the door or the locking mechanism.And if running into issues just call support. (I did not have to, but calling this out based on my experience with the support team).App to manage the lock:: simple intuitive design. And very easy to use, add users and remove users, track them etc.Support :: I had issues with lock firmware update, as I had it disconnected from Wi-Fi for over a long period of time (around 1.5 years). They seem to know what they’re doing rather than just reading off a script, and unlike Yale cared about actually finding a solution to the problem (though it did require a factory reset which is annoying). I hear this is a common problem, so hopefully there is a firmware update coming that will fix it permanently. There is also apparently an issue with the Airbnb function, not working if the lock is connected to an Apple home network that I am also hoping they resolve soon, but for the time being, I am simply not connecting my Airbnb lock to my Apple home network as a work around.I’ve purchased two so far, one for our front door and one for our Airbnb) and plan on purchasing two more in the next couple of months.

I also got the matching handle set which is the smoothest function of any brand door handle. Handles are getting too flimsy for large exterior doors but this is still solid.The lock’s remote locking feature is relatively seamless but your door must be able to fully shut without added force to turn the deadbolt. The manual lever backup feels solid. The keypad is perfect, senses input with ease and rarely press the wrong digit. Seems durable and looks slick. It also does not ever register input without touch, for example my old no brand smart lock would start going off when the sun started shining on my south facing front door.It’s also fun using apple’s homekit key like using your phone like a hotel key to operate the lock. My children think it’s a cool feature.Anyway after looking around this seemed like the best smart lock on the market and so far it’s been great for the few months I’ve owned it after some initial challenge installing and setting up the lock. I wouldn’t recommend it to a first time smart product user, you have to be familiar with how to connect smart devices to your home to get the full functionality.

A Smart Deadbolt lock that is easy to install and setup. I updated the original key-type deadbolt with this product and a new Schlage door handle set.The only install issue I came across was the deadbolt latch jammed, as noted in my Schlage's app history. This was not a product issue but a builder's issue. This was due to the door jam's latch plates not being aligned from the original hardware setup. This door's handle latch plate was not set back far enough.This is important, after you install the Smart lock and check to make sure your code works, close the door and use the keypad to lock it. To fix misalignment: I had to fill the door handle's latch plate's jam's screw holes (I used toothpicks and wood glue-dowel) and trimmed the back edge of the plate's recessed area about 1/8", then reset the plate. This made the door close tighter. Repeat the keypad test to verify.I have the Encode version: Check the list of great features on Build.com. The Schlage app is uncomplicated and easy to do or understand.My only wish is that Schlage's door handle's latch could be designed to extend. It engages but not enough IMO. Another builder faux pas. The Smart deadbolt latch is hefty and long enough.I would recommend this product to family and friends.
