Fitted these tyres to my Giant Defy Advanced to try and improve grip as we approach winter because the country lanes I use get very muddy when it rains, which happens a lot in Scotland! There are also a lot of fallen leaves and gravel at the moment. Used them this weekend for the first time and what a difference, so much more grip which inspired confidence and made the ride a pleasure rather than a worry. I bought the 28mm with tubes to replace the standard 25mm tubeless. They were easy to fit, seem very sturdy and I even like the reflective sidewalls which I wasn’t sure about. A bonus is also a more comfortable ride, I might even leave them on come spring. Usual speedy delivery from Rutland.

These replaced a pair of freedom commuter (groove) tyre's that started to split along the rim walls and had been in use for about 10 months. Maybe could've got another 2-3 months out of them but they weren't ideal for the wet.I use marathon plus on my main commuter and have not had any issues so I bought these for my backup bike. There's a noticible difference when cornering with these over the freedom, the extra grip and reduced vertigo at 20+mph was a nice surpriseOnly down side is a slight speed loss but this is to be expected with the green guard over tyres with very little to no puncture protection.

I've spent 50++ years riding skinny tired bikes (27 x 1-1/4). I've had this bike for 45 years. I was the manager of sporting goods service for Sears during the bike boom. I was paid to assemble my first bike at 12. I've seen somewhere between 20 and 30,000 bikes. My last set of Panaracers lasted a long time, they had very low rolling resistance pumped to 90psi. I was concerned the Marathons without a distinct center rib and lower pressure would drag down the bike but the reviews were great, step up cost wise from Continentals. They were easy to mount, just rolled them on with my hands. They seated immediately, no need for a "pop". Went 70psi front, 75psi rear to soften bumps a hair. Holy #$$%%^$!!!!! They roll like a dream. When you look at where the dirt is and the ... MoreI've spent 50++ years riding skinny tired bikes (27 x 1-1/4). I've had this bike for 45 years. Bought this tire for an electric bike in the effort to minimize flats. It is heavier then my old tire but does not effect performance since it's rolling resistance is very small. I also noticed improved balance and stability when going fast down hills. It does follow or track street cracks more then I like, but not really a problem. No flats so far but only have about 100 miles on it. I do like the tire and recommend it for commuting.
Like I said in the headline, I LOVE these tyres. Upsized from 40-559 to 47-559, and switched from M+ down to Marathons. Really happy I did. They're lighter, roll better and are noticeably more comfortable.Pity about the delivery. I've bought a bit of stuff from Bikeinn and it's been pretty seamless but this time it was rubbish. 24 days to deliver from ordering, supplied with the wrong tracking number, and literally no way to break the impenetrable wall that is tradeinn customer service. But hey, they got here in the end.
This is a great tire, with good flat protection and a comfortable ride. While it’s not as flat resistant as the Marathon Plus, it’s lighter and more reasonably priced. These tires came on my old touring bike and the bike felt like a Volvo going down the road on a set of 33’s. I put tons of mikes on them before they began to flat. After a few years the sun driedthem out and they began to crack, and they were toast.I switched to Gatorskins, which were fine. However, the Marathons are more comfortable and they tread feels more secure when it gets wet. The Marathon handles the sun much better than folding Gators, which could not handle the brutal sun of Southern California.
I fitted a pair of 700x25c. In keeping with an assistants remarks they were challenging to fit. The involvement of friction is the main issue; and that was further compounded by the beading of the tyres being a snug fit within the space on offer within the rims section.Care has to be taken that the valve is seated correctly. The root of the valve must rest above the tyres beads. If the valve root is sandwiched between rim and the tyres bead a bulge will result. At key moments during fitting an extra pair of hands helps. The ‘helper’ can ‘fold’ the tyre away from ‘fitter’ and his/her use of the levers while the fitter works that final magic. The obstinacy caused by the force of friction can be defeated with use of some ‘non-greasy lubricant’. When applied to the tyres beading (on the one side facing the fitter) that reduced the effort required considerably. I kid you not.‘Non greasy lubricant’, AKA ‘intimate massage gel’, may often be found on sale in proximity to the condoms. These tyres seem to be a robust and quality product that instill confidence. I have yet to ride out.
Slow to arrive from Rutland but the cheapest price on the internet that I could find. Tyre fitted easily compared to Continental tyres. Measures 31 mm on Mavis open pro. Very impressed with the ride again compared to continental world tours that I have used for many years as winter tyres. The later are so slow and wooden, these Schwalbe marathons are as lively as my summer tyres. No punctures despite a week of commuting via lanes and cycle path with freshly cut hedges. Will definitely be changing to these for my winter tyres.
* Holds the road extremely well, even at very high pressures, so ideal for the bumpy, pockmarked streets of my city, not least on untreated stretches in winter.* Even at very high pressures, absorbs road shock well.* Punctures extremely rare: can't remember the last one.* Extremely long-lasting - my new pair replaces one that's been on my bike for at least five years, at roughly 2,000km per year.* Particularly at the price Tredz was selling them for (£27 each), spectacular value for money.
I have these tyres on three different bikes of varying widths. I have experimented with many brands and keep coming back to the Schwalbe Marathon. Puncture protection and longevity is key for me and they have never let me down on those fronts. There is also minimal compromise on grip and rolling resistance.
