I have always been a lifelong fan of Scotchguard. It has saved so many shoes, rugs, couches….you name it. I recently bought 2 cans and used them on a couch and a high-traffic runner. Both cans left a strange residue on the fabrics and a foul odor that wouldn’t go away. My runner was so greasy/slick and stinky I actually had to discard it and buy a new one. Not sure if they changed their formula or if I got 2 “bad cans”?? I never ever had this issue in the past. It has always dried residue-free and even odor free. Really disappointed.

The third part vendor for Walmart sent me Scotchguard "water protectant", instead of this item that I ordered (fabric protectant.) Even the photo above shows the words "fabric protectant." As I explained to the vendor, they are different. The vendor replied quickly stating that their scanner said this is the item. I returned it and received a prompt refund from Walmart. Bought a substitute brand off Amazon instead for a higher price but it worked out fine.

Followed instructions on application for a baseball cap. Did not repel water/moisture or sweat. Followed up with several heavy coats. Still did not repel wetness on baseball new caps. Left with sweats stains to be cleaned. This product does not work for hats. I give it a big “FAIL”!

Bought the 0ne gallon concentrate, mixed it according to directions, let it dry tested it. No protection. Sprayed it again. No protection.Called the company, just got the run around.Sprayed carpets one more time without diluting it. No protection. There products don't work any more.
I just sprayed my sofa and part of my loveseat and 8 pillows. The can of Scotchguard lasted longer than I expected but it probably has to do with the fact that both my sofa and loveseat are backed against walls so I did not spray the back. I purchased two cans because I wanted to get a good coverage. You can get a better price online by purchasing two cans instead of one. I will start with the second can tomorrow to finish the loveseat.Scotchguard has always had a great reputation so I am looking for good results in order to keep my new light gray sofa clean.
It was not worth it to apply! I applied inside (first mistake), and the smell is so awful. It was for two chairs, but I didn't think it was a big deal to take them outside since the packaging says odorless. I eventually took them outside, and the smell is still so potent, even after several hours! Even if does the job of stainproofing, it is simply not worth it for the smell. Litterally just bought an air purifier to try and filter things out. If you are worried about your furniture, look for alternative solutions, not Scotchgard! People claim that the old formula was good (I don't know personally), but this new stuff is gross. It's a chemically smell that you can't stop thinking about. What happened to the "Fabric Protector" spray that actually worked to repel liquids?? This stuff is absolute trash; it does not work to repel water at all!!I gave three test strips, (each a different style of upholstery fabric, all stated as types this product should be effective for) 3-4 coats (half-hour between each coat) and let them dry in my office (heated/well ventilated) overnight. Today, all three are EXTREMELY absorbant... Each test strip's fibers wicked up completely full of water within 2 seconds of running under the faucet 🤨.I have suspicions this product's reviews rely solely on the merits of the products that came before (and whose cans look so similar, I've had minor arguments with at least 3 different register clerks while looking for the old ... MoreWhat happened to the "Fabric Protector" spray that actually worked to repel liquids?? I used Scotchgard™ Fabric Water Shield on my outdoor cushions to give them some extra protection from the daily Florida downpours wearing them down fast. The water shield smells awful putting it on. It’s definitely not something I would ever want to use in a small or in-closed space. That being said - it did air out and not smell anymore on the fabric after a couple of days. I let the cushions completely dry before putting them back where the elements could affect them. After a good hard rain, I checked them and instead of being Super saturated like usual, they had water droplets sitting on top that could easily be wiped away and barely any water saturation at all. I did two cushions very thoroughly with one can. After a good hard rain, I checked them and instead of being Super saturated like usual, they had water droplets sitting on top that could easily be wiped away and barely any water saturation at all. I did two cushions very thoroughly with one can. If you have a large item to cover and you want it covered properly, it will take quite a bit of the water shield to do the job. I feel like this is similar to the tent waterproofing I did many years ago. With that, I had to re-apply the waterproof each season. I think it will be the same for the Scotchgard™ Fabric Water Shield. Overall, I do recommend this product. Instead of replacing cushions that have been worn down by saturation more often, this should help keep them in better shape for longer. I give it 4 out of 5 stars because the smell when spraying it on was horrible. I can’t imagine how bad it would be in a small space or inside and that should be something to take into serious account when using it. I received the Scotchgard™ Fabric Water Shield, 4106 PF for free in exchange for an honest review.
This Scotchguard works but you need to use it yearly for your furniture to be protected. I forgot to apply it after a year and my furniture got badly stained, so definitely set a reminder in your phone so you don’t forget! This product doesn’t smell pleasant, but the smell dissipates after awhile. I make sure to spray my furniture outdoors (if possible) and I leave it outside for a few hours so the fumes don’t bother me. I know that’s probably not possible with large furniture, so just make sure to open windows, doors or turn on the fan when using this. Overall I would recommend this product. It works when used as directed.
I wish I read the reviews before buying. i bought two cans of this poison to protect a brand new sectional sofa. The can says odorless when dry. Followed the directions as stated. Went with two light one pass sprayings as the can recommended and waited between sprayings to dry. Its been over 12 hours and my house still smells like paint thinner. To make matters worse, the product did absolutely nothing to repel water as I did a test spill and it soaked right through. Complete waste of money and now a brand new couch ruined because it smells like paint thinner. And then I see all these reviews about the smell and the generic copy paste response from scotchgard. These guys should face a class lawsuit for their deliberate deception claiming their product drys odorless ... MoreI wish I read the reviews before buying. i bought two cans of this poison to protect a brand new sectional sofa. Seriously, they have product photos of this poison being applied to dress shirts. Who in their right mind is going to walk around willingly smelling like petroleum.
