I bought this product to use in patching large bare areas in my lawn. Basically I raked the existing surface, spread seed (with fertilizer) and covered with this product. It worked well and the new growth is healthy. Some reviews are critical of this product, however, I found it well suited to my purpose. Strongly recommended.

I bought this very recently in late October and Early November. My purpose was only to top dress on my buffalo lawn on patches before spring ends.To my surprise, the bags came with lots of barks. I used them on frontyard and backyard and the area next to my neighbour. It is of poor quality and not a fine mix. In 5 days time after applying, all 3 areas are growing tiny weeds and they only show up on the top dressing mix where applied. All those weeds I have not seen before and are of the same type.The bark is blocking sunlight and it hinders growth of existing lawn. I complained to Scotts customer service, she doesn't think that's the case,Very disappointed, was advised to rake those areas? Really? and offer refund? All the other top soils contained very course organic materials such as sticks etc. This one has the finest organic soil in it, there are some tiny bark and twigs in there but nothing of concern. Spreads easily into the lawn. If you want super fine top soil go to a garden centre instead. Some have said they notice weeds pop up. I doubt it is from this product directly and instead is as a result of the ground being more fertile with the top soil allowing existing weeds to spring up. Good product and use this as my go-to top soil.
