SE Electronics DM1 Dynamite Active Inline Preamp

With the DM1, sE Electronics offers an active inline preamplifier for passive microphones that require extremely high preamplification. The DM 1 Dynamite is ideal for this and can easily be placed between the microphone and mic preamp to get extra transparent and clean 28dB GAIN - without any noise or discoloration. The output impedance is also the lowest in its class. Long cable lengths can thus be easily mastered while reducing susceptibility to interference, humming and humming. (Of course, the shorter the cable, the better). And of course the unique dynamite design must not go unmentioned. Works perfectly. Clean gain added to my Shure SM7B. Would get 5 stars if it came in another colour, maybe black! The red colour just sticks out ugly when you set up with mainly black cables, mic stands, mics etc.

I needed something to boost the output of my Shure SM-7B, but wanted to know if I could save 50 bucks by buying this instead of the Cloudlifter. Ordered from B&H (came the very next day even though I ordered it late in the afternoon!), and compared it with my friends Cloudlifter at his project studio. Bottom line-the DM-1 had more output, both were very quiet (technically, the DM-1 has a lower noise spec, but both were basically noiseless), and the Cloudlifter had a more hefty build quality (not that the DM-1 feels cheap or anything...the Cloudlifter just had more heft). One other advantage to the DM-1 was that I could simply plug it directly into my SM-7 so I didnt need another cable to hook it up. The DM-1 works great and saved me some money, so Im happy!

Having done a fair bit of YouTube searching for reviews on what item is best to use in conjunction with a Shure SM7B, everyone hyped up the Cloud Lifter, and even though my vocalist and I were working on a budget, the sE Electronic offers a few more dbs of Cowan gain than the Cloud Lifter, at a more affordable price.Another advantage is the DM1 plugs directly into the mic, so you only need 1 XLR cable, which should offer a stronger signal going into your interface.

An easy to install product. It comes included with a rubber sawtooth washer to get a firm fix/connection with your (microphone) XLR connector. The sound is natural/not colored and it gives a good amount of gain without introducing noise. Its a good qualitative alternative to the cloudlifter. I use the DM1 with a shure SM7B, Rode PSA1 and shure A26x adapter. The DM-1 fits perfectly, althoug i did 3d print a bracket to keep it in line with the A26x extension

Excellent, Clean Signal Boost for Dynamic Mics - Recommended
23 December 2019

i compared this to the CL-1 cloudlifter. it is $50 cheaper, requires one less cable, and works wonderfully. powerful gain boost with no added noise. recommended for use with dynamic mics, especially if you're using budget or midrange mic pres. this signal booster lets me run my tascam dp-008 portastudio mic pre gain set at a much lower level, which means a cleaner recording when using an sm58 for podcasting. highly recommended.

Extremely satisfied

Great product! Really does boost the signal cleanly, and a great alternative to the Cloudlifter. I chose this over the Cloudlifter mainly coz of the price. With the Cloudlifter, not only is it $50 more, you also have to get additional cables. If there is a downside to this product (and this is more of a nitpick) I would just be a bit careful to not pull on it when adjusting your mic, and maybe some sort of led or visual feedback letting users know that the phantom power is being fed into the device. But really, I would highly recommend this product.

Great little Preamp
18 May 2022

1) Slightly better than the Cl-1 because there are no extra cables required2) Provides about 20db of clean gain (perfect for SM7b, RE20, RE320, etc.)3) All in all, a great little preamp. Highly recommended!

Review of SE DM1 Dynamite in Line Mic Pre

Bought to try out with a vintage ribbon mic, i.e. low output compared to a large diaphragm condenser. It certainly provides the gain and wide frequency response promised. But is it's output really 'low noise'? I suppose it depends on what you're comparing it to...Have decided that the mic preamps of my Sound Devices SD302 have a far lower noise-floor than the sE DM1. Basically I'm better off plugging the ribbon straight into the SD302 and not using the DM1! (even on a 45m length of mic cable) The ribbon mic being used was a Shure model 300, recently refurbished by Xaudia, so reasonably sensitive as far as ribbons go.My suggestion: don't bother with a mini preamp like this, unless you have a specific problem driving a long cable with a very insensitive mic and the ... MoreBought to try out with a vintage ribbon mic, i.e. low output compared to a large diaphragm condenser. Far better to invest in a good mic input stage for your recording system in the first place!

Solved low input from miniXLR (Blackmagic)
5 November 2020

I have a BMPCC4K and always had very low input when pulling through the miniXLR adaptor into the camera. Tried boosting it with a Cloudlifter (which worked great) but was cumbersome to take on shoot. This in-line preamp does the same exact job (at $50 less) and it low profile enough to just keep in your bag and give you a clean +28dB of gain. Highly recommended.

Whisper Quiet, 28db gain boost, works with Shure sm7b
11 February 2022

This works exactly as advertised. I'm using a third gen Focusrite 18i20 interface with a Shure sm7b microphone and before I bought the Se Dynamite, I was having to turn my gain up nearly all the way to get a decent signal. I was picking up a ton of noise. With the Se Dynamite added to the mic, I have the gain set almost at zero. It gives a clean 28db boost. I hear absolutely zero noise when this is added to my microphone. I actually think it removed some interference I was picking up from my router and Tv. The Se Dynamite is intended to be directly connected to the mic, so you only need one cable, as opposed to the 2 cables you would need if you were using a cloudlifter. I'm a little worried that someone tripping over a cable could cause some damage to my mic. I may rig up a little bracket to secure the dynamite to my mic.
