Light, warm, comfortable and most importantly, adaptable. The Ascent is Sea to Summit's sleeping bag of choice for most adventures, most of the time. Offering the perfect backpacking balance of comfort vs weight, the Sea to Summit Ascent Series sleeping bags have more space than traditional mummy bags, yet still provide the thermal efficiency you need when exploring above the tree-line.The Free-Flow triple-zip design ensures your sleeping bag retains maximum warmth and efficiency when needed and multiple ventilation options when it’s not. The half zip on the right side of the bag provides freedom of movement for both arms, additional ventilation and means the top third of the bag can be folded down as a mini quilt. The full length, two-way left side zip and separate foot zip transforms the bag into a full quilt for when the mercury climbs higher than expected. If it’s warmth you’re after, close all the zips, pull the cord locks tight to drag everything in, and relax in luxurious comfort. The generous allocation of high quality 750+ Loft down ensures great insulation, while the oversized draft tubes prevents your body heat escaping. The panelled footbox and 3-dimensional hood make sure you’re not compressing the down when you’re trying to stay warm. Vertical baffles over the chest section ensure the down insulation cannot migrate or shift to the outside of the bag during sleep, creating cold spots. A side block baffle construction maintains the 60/40 fill ratio, keeping more down on the top of the bag for maximum insulation.

Comfortable and functional 3-season sleeping bag.

I did a bunch of research before opting to go with the Sea to Summit Ascent ACII sleeping bag. I wanted something that was relatively light and packable, but warm enough to keep me comfortable for shoulder season camping as well as during the summary. This bag is great. I live on Vancouver Island and just used it on the Juan de Fuca Trail in April and will be taking it on the West Coast Trail in May. The 650 FP down is nice and cozy and packs down very small with help from the included compression sack. The 3-zipper system allows you to unzip the top half from both sides to get in and out easily or to sleep with the top down during warming weather. The foot zipper at the bottom lets you add venting or zip the bag completely open to turn it into a quilt. I've used this bag on two trips so far, one in March, and one in May. The coldest it got was about 2c, and the bag kept me toasty. Weighing in at just over two pounds, it's pretty amazing the features that were packed into it. My main reason for purchasing was its semi-rectangular shape, which I've found to be more than roomy enough on my 25-inch wide pad. I love the numerous zipper configurations which will be super helpful in warmer temperatures in Summer. I noticed that when I hold the bag up to a light source, there are some visible gaps in the down insulation. However, this has not had any impact on the performance of the bag. My assumption is that the manufacturer opted to fill with just enough down for the temperature rating, and not overfill, keeping weight ... MoreI've used this bag on two trips so far, one in March, and one in May. Overall, an awesome bag that strikes a sweet spot between comfort and lightweight.

I went from a $30 amazon mat to this. It checks all the boxes: it's comfortable, it's quiet, it stays inflated all through the night, and it's really easy to inflate/deflate. With the stuff sack, inflating only takes me three breaths. I am 5'10 and 170lbs, back and side sleeper. With a size Regular, I have room at the head and foot and have no issue staying on the pad. I've paired this with the Sea to Summit Ascent 25-degree bag and been warm in 35 degree nights no problem. Haven't tested colder. My only complaint is, I honestly thought it was going to be a bit smaller than it is. It's definitely taller and wider than the $30 Sleepingo pad I bought previously, which inflates to the same size. If you're going for an ultralight, small bikepacking pad, there are probably pads that pack a little smaller for a little more money—but this one checks every other box for me.

Initial Impressions
18 November 2021

Just got this and sharing my initial impressions. I'm replacing an existing 15 degree bag, going with this one specifically because I wanted one that unzipped all the way. Speaking of the zippers, now that I've been playing around with it. I don't understand why it has 3 separate zippers. There is the main 2-way zipper along one side that stops near the bottom, and a separate zipper in the foot box. Those 2 zippers overlap and you have to back one up to get the other one started. Why not just have 1 long zipper? And then why do we need a small zipper on the other side? The problem with all these zippers that I didn't realize is that it makes it harder to stuff this thing into the stuff sack because the zippers don't bend easily and you don't want to kink them ... MoreJust got this and sharing my initial impressions. The problem with all these zippers that I didn't realize is that it makes it harder to stuff this thing into the stuff sack because the zippers don't bend easily and you don't want to kink them either. There are baffles along the zipper but I also worry about how much heat you lose through there, especially that weird area where the zippers overlap. The next issue I have is around the down insulation. I don't have the stats on my existing 15 degree bag but it is noticeably loftier than this new one, so that is a concern. My other bag is also 800 down and this one advertises 750+. This bag comes with an independent testing certification sheet, which is nice. Mine says it was tested to have 90% 800 loft down, but then it also says it's 100% duck down. That seems strange because I read here on REI that duck down is limited to below 800, and for 800 and above you have to get goose down.My last issue is the storage sack is way too small. You have to compress the bag quite a bit to get it into the storage sack. Not sure why they did that. But count on ordering a storage sack separately.

With excitement I purchased the Ascent 0*F Down Sleeping Bag in preparation for my upcoming Autumn thru hike of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. I recently took it to Crested Butte, CO, on a field test and have to say that it lived up to all of the hype!Night time temperatures were in the mid to upper 30s. I am a very cold sleeper and the bag held up to its specified temperature range. (Thank goodness!) I used my Reactor extreme thermo lite sleeping bag liner on the coldest night because of the way I like to sleep in order to be comfortable. I am a side and back sleeper who abhors the restrictions of classic, narrow, ultra-lite and lite weight mummy bags. I mostly sleep on my side with my arms folded up in front of me. With a normally sized women's specific mummy bag this is impossible to manage. This bag, with it's relaxed dimension, was wide enough for me to be able to lay comfortably with my bent arms out in front of me while still keeping it fully zipped. WOOHOO!!!I used the liner on the colder nights because I dislike having the hood and opening cinched around me. If I had done that I doubt I would have needed the liner because cold air wouldn't have been coming in the top. On another chilly night I used the liner as a sheet like layer at the top- by the opening, to keep out the draft because again, I didn't want it cinched around me. The generous inner draft tube would prevent cold air coming in if you used this bag in a standard way.I'm 5'4 and medium framed in general, but seem to have wider shoulders than a lot of women. That's partly why I went with this unisex bag instead of the women's specific equivalent, because I like and need to have more room in the shoulders in order to rest comfortably, given the way I like to spread out my arms and legs when lying on my back. There was a good amount of room for me throughout this bag. It was an exceptional thing to be able to spread out and stretch my legs a bit rather than having them feeling bound up in the usually very narrow foot end of the bag. And many lite and ultra-lite women's specific bags are cut shorter than they should be in an effort to shave off some weight. It was refreshing to rest in a more spacious bag knowing that it would still pack up small enough to fit in my 62L pack without hogging too much space and would be light enough not to break my back out on the trail. The ascent can accommodate people a lot taller than me since it's a unisex bag. Personally I like having the extra room at the bottom without adding too much weight to the overall bag. The extra space means I can stuff my clothes for the morning and my down jacket if I'm not wearing it, into the bottom end of the bag. That makes more insulation in the toe box on colder nights and elevation for my feet if I want it. This means I don't have to throw on icy clothing in the chill of the morning. For years I've been uncomfortable and less than satisfied using various, narrow mummy bags. I find them way too restrictive. But I endured it in exchange for the weight savings narrower bags can give you. I have finally gotten to the point where I don't want to do that anymore because good sleep is so important to me. With other bags I would end up unzipping them most of the way, sticking my feet in the zipped end with the open side down, and using them like a quilt. I was always still too cold but more comfortable position-wise. With the Ascent I have the option to unzip it fully and use it as a quilt if I want to. That is so exciting for warmer weather! This bag is going to rock on my thru hike because of its versatility in design. When I start my trip it'll be warm at night so I'll be able to use it as a quilt and let some air in. Then as I progress it's going to get really cold and humid at night. At that time I can zip it up fully, use the liner when needed and/or cinch it snugly around my head if need be.The temperature rating is accurate for a unisex bag. The design, including the baffling construction, double sided half zip for venting, and the quilt option, are excellent for those who value a lot of extra comfort and diversity over shaving off a few ounces. This bag is totally lite enough for its features and temperature rating. The roominess to weight ratio is dreamy...For me and for anyone who wants versatility and more room inside of the bag in order to finally sleep comfortably while camping and out on the trail- especially the long thru hiking trail, the roomier nature of the Ascent 0* as a relaxed mummy bag is SO WORTH the few extra ounces being added to your thru hike load. I would choose this bag over a slightly lighter weight but more restrictive bag any day!

Love!

Purchased the Ascent Down Sleeping Bag 0F for our recent camping trip to the Great Sand Dunes National Park were the temps dropped to mid-20F over night. We also got the Fleece Insert for just in case moments but we probably didn't need it for the warmth but for the protection of the bags. This bag... wow, constructed so warm and super comfy. Great design as it packs down so small even though we car camped. The only recommendation I have is to make the "phone pocket" bigger. It would probably fit a flip phone from 2 decades ago... and my ear plugs. Overall well constructed, love the multi zippers... I was initially worried as more zippers might let in more air.. but it was so well built that the bag held the heat in so well. I would survive in even colder weather ... MorePurchased the Ascent Down Sleeping Bag 0F for our recent camping trip to the Great Sand Dunes National Park were the temps dropped to mid-20F over night. Slept better than at home

I have used my Ascent 15 deg bag around 12 nights between September and March in Missouri. The coldest night was around 10 deg F. Most nights were between 25 and 30. I also have the Ether XT insulated sleeping pad. Honestly, I slept better than at home. I wore a simple set of base layers, liner socks, and a thin balaclava to bed each night. I also use a sleeping bag liner, but it's a thin one, just to help keep my bag clean. Several nights I woke up a little cold because I was sweating. I started keeping the mummy open a little bit to help some air flow and that worked. The best feature on this bag is the toe box. My feet are never cold at night. The perfect sleeping bag
31 October 2021

After a few freezing nights in a sleeping bag that I thought was adequate, I decided I really oughta invest in a proper mummy bag. As I was researching, this one kept coming up under my search filters. It's got water resistant down that eliminates the only downside and the temperature rating is 3 season. The regular size is plenty long, me being 5'8" tall. My favorite part, however, are the zipper options S-to-S has included. The main zipper is typical but the half zip on the other side of the bag and the foot zipper go a long way for comfort, especially because I'm always hot crawling into bed and my body slowly cools off over the night. When I use this, I have it half unzipped and as the night goes on, I zip up the sides and then further synch up the head opening ... MoreAfter a few freezing nights in a sleeping bag that I thought was adequate, I decided I really oughta invest in a proper mummy bag. When I use this, I have it half unzipped and as the night goes on, I zip up the sides and then further synch up the head opening to trap in more body heat. This is my first down sleeping bag and the experience of crawling in from a cold night and having a super insulated cocoon around me instantly keeping the cool off was... kinda surreal.Only downside is that it's a brighter green than images online would have you believe.

This is the bag I should have bought the first time.

Some things you can't cheep out on, sleeping bags are one of those things. The design is AWSOME. I have had mummy bags and I can't sleep in them, I have had cheep down bags and they don't last and smell fowl. I roll around at night, the side zippers and foot zipper make me comfortable in all positions and temps. I am 6'2" and have plenty of room. I have slept in this bag for 65f nights and down to 35f, bag keeps me warm and with the zippers works when temps are warmer too. I guide and canoe camp. I put this sleeping bag in a Sea to Summit eVent 20L compression dry bag to keep it dry and save space. I am very happy with this sleeping bag and confident camping in colder weather.

Very cozy sleeps

Just got to try this bag out on a multi-day backpacking trip and absolutely love it. I was concerned having read mixed reviews when buying but did not have a single issue with the bag. The weather varied highly from damp and foggy to clear nights around 5-10ºC and I was very comfortable each night. I'm a side sleeper and found the bag plenty roomy due to the more square-ish shape, which was a large factor in my choice of the bag. The down is slightly clumped as said in some other reviews, however, I didn't find that this hindered the performance and was easy to separate with a little fluffing.
