Sea to Summit Ether Light XT Insulated Sleeping Mat - Large

The Ether Light XT Insulated Mat offers lightweight cold-climate sleeping comfort. Its made from a combination of lightweight 30/40D Nylon fabric, Exkin Platinum thermal fabric and Thermolite insulation with a loop baffle Air Sprung Cell construction to create a 10cm thick mat with an incredibly low weight. The Air Spring Cell construction welds the top and bottom layer fabric and is combined with looped TPU baffles to create large air pockets which allow the insulation to fully loft. Perfect for side sleepers, this construction also adds extra height which allows hips to sink deeper without touching the ground. The Sea To Summit multi-functional valve integrates an inflate port with a one-way valve to prevent air loss before you seal the valve, a rapid air dump deflate port, and a fine tune button to adjust for comfort, in one compact, low profile unit.

After about 20 overnight stays, 10 air leaks!

Design flaw in the dot welds led to multiple holes

Design issue causing topside punctures

I have had to patch 5 places where punctures have occurred and all in the same dimple edge position. I've heard of others getting more than 10 punctures in the same locations. Sea To Summit will replace under warranty but it's an unpleasant experience waking up in the morning touching the ground and having to buy extra patches if your away from home/work for a trek. The bag is too tight to fit the mat in and there isn't a logical place to store the puncture repair kit other than in the bag cord hole. I loved the sleeping experience when it didn't deflate aside from the balloon rubbing sound when changing position, but over all there is a design issue with this mat so I can't recommend it to anyone. This is a premium price mat competing with the Worlds best manufacturers, but with the design issue it's not worth buying unfortunately. I envy those who haven't had this issue, other people have had the puncture issue on multiple replacements.

Ether Light XT Insulated Air Sleeping Mat - Sea to Summit Large
30 April 2024

The large mummy shape was perfect for shoulder and arm width. Comfortable and good for side sleeping when not fully inflated. Slightly noisy. When a Sea to Summit inflatable pillow is added to the four "Velcro" strips on the mat it stays there and provides an extra comfortable night's sleep. The valve system is excellent. Deflation and pack up is easy. It is good having the pump sack attached to the stuff bag but inflation takes mot goes than with other bags. It still does the job though. Not perfect but certainly recommended.

Favorite pad yet, problem with design causes leaks
16 December 2022

I have used this pad for probably over 100 nights at this point. I'm a Trail Worker, long distance hiker, and former Wilderness Ranger, and this pad has kept me extremely comfortable almost every night. It's thick, quiet, and plenty warm for most trips. After 40-50 nights or so, I was having to wake up every 2 hours to re-inflate because I was hitting the ground with my hips/shoulders while side sleeping. I had gotten used to it, but finally decided to throw some patches on one day. I found SEVEN holes on the pad, all on the top of the pad, which was very surprising to me. No holes on the bottom (great!), which has definitely seen pokey conditions; one hole in a crease near the seam, which makes sense with repeated use; SIX holes on the edges of the air cell ... MoreI have used this pad for probably over 100 nights at this point. Four of those were at chest level and two at knee level.Obviously, this is an issue because I now know exactly where every future hole will be. After patching, I took it back out on an 8-day trip and it was like new. The next 8-day trip, it was back to deflating. It would be almost flat by about 3 or 4 AM. I'm hesitant to even patch it again at this point, because I know it will continue to get holes in the same place. You can see pictures of some of the patches below.I've loved this pad, but I will be looking at other options going forward.

Great Sleeping Pad and Even Better Customer Service
12 August 2024

I originally purchased this sleeping pad several years ago, and it served me well on half a dozen 50 mile hikes. Pros: It is incredibly light weight for the comfort and packs well; Cons: the pad is noisy and the r-value limits some colder weather hiking. Despite the cons, the bag performed as advertised. That is until it sadly stopped holding air on the last trip. After attempts to fix the pad myself, I decided to reach out to Sea to Summit to inquire about repair. The bag was well out of warranty, and I didn't even inquire about a warranty claim. I simply asked for repair pricing and availability, and without prompting, Sea to Summit sent me a new replacement pad at no cost. I truly cannot recall that kind of stand by your product customer service from a company ... MoreI originally purchased this sleeping pad several years ago, and it served me well on half a dozen 50 mile hikes. Great design & easy set up, but....the noise
17 June 2024

I was really excited about using this sleeping pad out on the trail, because when I tried it out at home it was easy to deploy, quiet to lay on and move around, had a decent R rating for warmer weather, and was still light enough. IMHO, the design of the stuff sack/fill bag is brilliant and worked so well. It filled all the way with just 2 1/2 bags full. Then, I could turn it inside out and fill my pillow! Woo HOo! Then came 10 nights on trail and my bubble burst. For me, this pad did not end up working well. You know when you rub a balloon, and it makes that awful noise? Well, this pad sounded like that whenever I turned over. In my ears, the noise was so much more annoying than the "Rice Krispie" noise my other pad made. It also felt like I was on a waterbed. I could never really find a still and stable position, especially sitting up. It was weird.I wanted so badly to like this sleeping pad. Despite the brilliant design of the stuff sack/fill bag and the ease of deployment and storage, I just couldn't sleep on it. Perhaps it works for others, but I ended up returning it.

Inflatable comfort
17 May 2024

Like most older members, the foam ‘mattress’ no longer cuts it, the self inflating mattress has almost no support and gets pierced constantly. This surprisingly good mattress has comfort, extremely fast morning routine deflation and is surprisingly insulated against cultana cold. I don’t recommend using it in a field of prickles but otherwise it’s surprisingly comfortable. Only thing, the YouTube video shows a girl casually wafting the stuff sack to inflate…It takes more effort than that. However it still inflates very fast.
