Sea to Summit Mini Pocket Umbrella

It's one of the many clauses in Murphy's Law – whenever it begins to rain and you need your umbrella, you never have it. It's at home. You left it at work. You left it in the car. And why? Because it's too bulky to lug around with you everywhere you go on the off chance it might pour. But with the Pocket Umbrella you can be prepared, anywhere and everywhere. When extended and opened, the Pocket Umbrella looks like any normal umbrella – but when you pack it up (which is a snap by the way), it's only 16 centimetres and weighs a feather-light 155 grams - that's less than a bar of chocolate by the way (another thing that you never seem to have when you need it). Did you get that? 16 centimetres, 155 grams! The Pocket Umbrella truly lives up to it's name – storing easily and discreetly in your hand bag, briefcase, backpack or school bag. Now of course, just like any other umbrella, you could make the mistake of leaving it at home – but the beauty of the Pocket Umbrella is that it's so light, so compact and so affordable, you can order one for every place you could need it. The glovebox of your car, the office draw, your handbag, your golf bag – it also makes beautiful sense for backpackers! The Pocket Umbrella is such a thoughtful, practical and versatile gift – just think of everyone you know, cross of those who live in the Simpson Desert (fairly low risk of getting wet there) and order accordingly!

Awesome for travel

I bought two of these umbrellas for myself and partner for our trip to Southeast Asia. I wanted something small and light enough that I could carry both in my purse if we were going out without our packs. These were perfect! While on our trip we experienced almost daily short showers and these were easy to take out, set up and put back away. I did practice repacking into the sleeve once or twice. A concern was putting it back but I had no issues. One star off because I would have liked it to be a bit more hydrophobic. Don't get me wrong they kept us dry but the rain didn't just roll off them. Giving the umbrella a shake to get excess water off didn't really help. We occasionally had to give them a quick wipe with a cloth before putting them away.

This umbrella is amazing because it fits in your pocket and it weights next to nothing in your backpack. I keep one at the office, one in my car and one in my apartment. The material and the fabric are good quality. This is an essentiel, needless to say.

Purchased on Alaskan cruise ship for our trip and other traveling. I loved that I could put in pocket or small daypack. But now the handle fell off (it's not cracked) and won't stay on and for the life of me I cannot get it to open fully. I've probably used it fewer than a dozen times. Never received receipt as charged to cruise expenses and of course no store name from ship so guess I can't utilize the lifetime warranty. Great and handy idea but disappointed it's unusable...like today when it started raining on our day trip! Got a little wet!!

Great size, if it worked!
1 October 2019

I bought one today and opened it for a quick walk to a store. I collapsed it down while I shopped then tried to open it again when I exited. The opening mechanism would not lock into place so it,s not much use and I’ll be taking it back. This is unfortunate and likely just a problem with this particular unit, but disappointing. It is a great size and very light and just what I was looking for. Alas, this was the last one in stock at my local store.

I use it hiking and love it
2 December 2019

This is a small, very light version of a normal purse umbrella. You have to be careful with wind direction (or you’ll get an inside-out brolly), but I keep it in the front of my AARN body pack and took it out multiple times a day for the on-and-off showers during the day. I recently used this for a 6 day spring (Bibbulmun track) hike and it was perfect for Western Australian conditions. Going to the toilet at night was also easier than raincoat or poncho. In winter I will pair this with a light rain jacket, but for frequent spring showers it was easy and convenient.

Light but leaks
12 June 2021

I love how light and compact it is, but during a torrential downpour I discovered that the seams do leak. It's also not the most sturdy umbrella. Fine for emergencies but that's about it.

Light but not good quality
3 June 2018

The umbrella is very light and small. Very good for carrying in your purse for everyday commute especially during spring and also for hiking. Although the trade off for being light and handy is the quality which I was not impressed. First use of the umbrella, one of the edges came off as it was not properly attached/sewn. I would not advise using it on a windy day.

The umbrella of my dreams. Will be my only umbrella from now on.
24 July 2022

I travel extensively and umbrellas are always a dilemma. I hate, hate, HATE having the extra weight in my bag if I end up not using it. I hate even more getting soaked when out and about. I'm something of a poncho aficionado but sometimes I forget to pack the poncho. This umbrella is unbelievably light and small, while still having great coverage. I haven't tried it in windy conditions yet but even if it breaks it is such a perfect umbrella that I'd rather just repair it or buy another one vs. having to haul a regular-size umbrella in my tiny carryon (I'm a carryon only devotee). I've bought several for holiday gifts for friends and family this year. This thing is GREAT. I do wish it came in more bright colors - a great way to lose an umbrella is to have a black ...Β MoreI travel extensively and umbrellas are always a dilemma. Ultralight and compact, an umbrella designed to be stashed in travel bags.
9 March 2023

I was looking for the smallest and lightest umbrella I could find. There may be even more ultralight compact versions out there that I just was not finding since manufacturers tend not to highlight these features in comparative advertising with other brands, but this design suited my immediate traveling needs. A little pricier to get from Ebay and ship from Australia, but S2S is located there, and my access to an assortment of S2S can be more limited here in the U.S. Living in a warm climate also means not having as many stores stocking umbrellas to compare and contrast before downpours. I have other S2S products that have served me well and so for specifically ultralight/compact items they are one of the brands I check out first. The metal ribs of the umbrella appear well made, the most likely failure point is the plastic column that locks and unlocks the umbrella. However, this is a common material in any brand of umbrella despite its potential for cracking.

can't open
8 April 2019

The size and weight of this umbrella is great. I received it as a gift from my daughter and son-in-law primarily to use when traveling. However, it is so hard to open that I can't do it. My son-in-law tried and with a lot of strength and pressure was barely able to get it to open (I am talking about pushing it far enough so that it clicks to stay open). Unfortunately I did not try to open it for a few weeks during which time the tags and receipts were tossed so I was unable to return it. Sadly, it is not usable for me.
