The X-Kettle is a tiny addition to your kit collapsing to 35mm. A 1.0L safe boiling capacity is perfect for a cup of tea or cocoa on the trail. With the increasing popularity of freeze dried food the kettle is all you need for two warm meals in one boil. If you prefer fresh rice or pasta the wide rim and stable handles allow it to be used as a 1.3L pot with easy stirring. Wide base absorbs maximum heat from the stove while protecting the silicone walls. Two glass-reinforced Nylon 6-6 handles support the upper rim and improve control when pouring. A silicone strap secures the lid and handles during transport. Two X-Mugs or X-Cups fit inside the X-Kettle while the kettle itself can fit inside the X-Pot 1.4L and X-Pot 2.8L as a compact cook system.

Second kettle, same problem. I use this whole system in my camper van. However the kettle has some terrible design flaws. Heat generated from boiling water warps the lid beyond any functional use. I am fully aware of the risks of using too high of a heat source. Regardless, in the years that I've used this the top has gradually warped, cracked and is actually kind of hazardous now. Without the lid, pouring near boiling water can scald the hands, but now even with the lid, steam comes through the cracked lid scalding my knuckles so I have to pour it by the very ends of the handles. I also might add that the handles (even with mid level heat that does not damage the silicone walls) are showing signs of melting from the heat. So, things I like: Actual silicone walls ... MoreSecond kettle, same problem. But the fact the lids are not made to withstand its practical use boggles my mind. Why not an aluminum lid?

Never looking back! It’s more than just a kettle for boiling water. We’ve cooked soups, instant potatoes, and more in this kettle and it never lets us down! In fact, we are getting a second one to have multiple things going at once. This was hands down one of the best upgrades we have ever made for our camp kitchen! Super lightweight, fits right into our sea to summit bowls, easy to open, heats up super quickly, and very well made. Held up great after being used 3+ times a day over a week trip. Also keeping it as a part of our hurricane preparedness kit as it will make it super easy to use eat when we are without power.

This product is absolutely brilliant. It's so light and packs down so small. For hiking it's a must as it saves so much space and weight. I also have the Sea to Summit Cup and that stores inside the collapsed kettle for even more space saving. Yes you have to be careful to not let the stove flames come in contact with the silicon sides but using a small hiking stove that's not an issue. I also love the pouring spout as I've had a lot of issues with this with other previous kettles or billys. No chance of spilling boiling water over yourself.
Been using this kettle for over six years and can’t live without it on tour. Get all kinds of inquiries, especially in Europe and the UK. However, I have a few gripes. The kettle takes a bit more time to boil water than a steel one, so you use more fuel. The top has cracked and eventually warped from extended use. Be careful when packing as weight on the lid can worsen the cracking. Cheers.
I use this kettle as a teapot while backpacking, especially since we can manage a large quantity of hot water for multiple servings of warm beverages while our stove continues to boil water for rehydrating our main dishes. I considered buying the X-Pot, but didn't want nearly doubled weight for capacity we didn't need.We rely on cook pot heat exchangers by Jet Boil and other companies to save fuel and time, so we've never used the X-Pot's aluminum base directly on our stove systems. I doubt I ever will because I'm not optimistic about the kettle's long-term durability with prolonged exposure to high stove heat, especially along the thin silicone folds. The kettle folds flat and easily accommodates our Sea to Summit X-Mugs (completely collapse the pot first before ... MoreI use this kettle as a teapot while backpacking, especially since we can manage a large quantity of hot water for multiple servings of warm beverages while our stove continues to boil water for rehydrating our main dishes. The flat profile and convenient storage design remain my favorite features.Sea to Summit mentions that this product is not dishwasher safe, which is confusing because their X-Cups, X-Bowls, and X-Seal and Go Containers are all dishwasher safe. There isn't a universally-recognized, dishwasher-unsafe icon, and the one Sea to Summit used on the bottom of this kettle wasn't immediately obvious, so just commit this caution and exception to memory and you'll be fine. ;-)
Order online for a trip to Cairns then for my usual camping kit. It was great to use at the YHA as being a bit germ phobic re Covid and flu of late was not comfortable using the camp kitchen items supplied. Boiled up my 2 min noodles (got into the YHA swing of food prep) and easily tipped out the excess water. Second part of holidays was in a fully furnished unit with a non camping friend, showed her my new kettle along with sea to summit collapsible bowl and cup. She was amused - however think she is going to buy herself a set for her trip to Europe next year with her husband.
Haven't had a chance to take it camping yet, but ran a test run on the kitchen stove to clean it before storing with my gear. The sidewalls seem quite sturdy, which was my one concern before trying the kettle. The kettle folds into itself with an appropriate amount of effort, but seems low risk of folding up when its full of water.I was able to bring water to a rolling boil quickly and it pours well. I like the design, because the baseplate is wider than the side walls, which makes it easier to keep flames off the sides and on the base where they belong.I'm very glad to have this as part of my camp kitchen!
I have used the XKettle 1.3 L Kettle a couple of times now, and here are my observations. First, take the kettle for what it is: a lightweight collapsible piece of cooking gear. The benefit one derives from having something lightweight and collapsible, is that you need to treat it differently, especially regarding flame height.I have been using a Coleman Featherlight, which has fairly good simmer control, but overall, I find it difficult to keep the flame from flickering up the sides of this kettle. Using white gas stoves on simmer also produces soot, which I would rather not deal with.I decided to try using my Trangia burner with the Trangia Triangle. It works perfectly. Flame doesn't escape up the sides of the kettle, and alcohol rarely produces soot. So, the ... MoreI have used the XKettle 1.3 L Kettle a couple of times now, and here are my observations. If you can't reliably keep the flame low, then perhaps consider a full metal/aluminum/alloy kettle or pot.
I bought this to use as a kettle but on a recent backcountry trip used it as a cooking pot (and bowl for eating) to save space.Pros: lightweight, collapsible, spacious enough for each dehydrated meal I made, and comes with a generally secure lid.Cons: so flexible it sometimes folds when not needed i.e. when you're holding it to eat, the base holds heat very well so it's not ideal for balancing on your laps or knees, and the collapsible shape makes for tricky edges to clean after a meal.An odd thing I learned this most recent trip is that rodents really enjoy chewing the silicone parts. A mouse bit through the silicone right above the metal base which I thought was going to be a season-ender for the kettle, but the bite was tiny enough that it only leaked slowly ... MoreI bought this to use as a kettle but on a recent backcountry trip used it as a cooking pot (and bowl for eating) to save space.Pros: lightweight, collapsible, spacious enough for each dehydrated meal I made, and comes with a generally secure lid.Cons: so flexible it sometimes folds when not needed i.e. when you're holding it to eat, the base holds heat very well so it's not ideal for balancing on your laps or knees, and the collapsible shape makes for tricky edges to clean after a meal.An odd thing I learned this most recent trip is that rodents really enjoy chewing the silicone parts. A mouse bit through the silicone right above the metal base which I thought was going to be a season-ender for the kettle, but the bite was tiny enough that it only leaked slowly (or not at all when dried food was being rehydrated and sucked up all the moisture). Later, though I hung the kettle in a tree to dry, another rodent sunk its teeth into the top rim. Now I have cute little reminders that I should definitely always stow the kettle in an inaccessible place.
