Prime is the complete and concentrated conditioner for both fresh and salt water. Prime removes chlorine, chloramine and ammonia. Prime converts ammonia into a safe, non-toxic form that is readily removed by the tank's biofilter. Prime may be used during tank cycling to alleviate ammonia/nitrite toxicity. Prime detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them. It will also detoxify any heavy metals found in the tap water at typical concentration levels. Prime also promotes the production and regeneration of the natural slime coat. Prime is non-acidic and will not impact pH. Prime will not overactivate skimmers. Use at start-up and whenever adding or replacing water.

Smells pretty bad (as advertised). That means it works better... right? 🫣For real tho, my only problem with this (apart from the smell) is that it's TOO concentrated. My tank's pretty small and it's almost impossible to dose this correctly (and consistently) based on the instructions. I would need a syringe if I want to pre-mix this on my water 😣

I do recommend Prime and lets talk about why...#1 Chlorine and Chloramine (chlorine+ammonia), ammonia and nitrites are all really dangerous for fish. If you are using tap water, this product will breakdown chlorine and turn ammonia into something harmless to fish. Its not the cheapest dechlorinator, so that should be considered. #2) This is where prime shines, IMO. If you experience an excess of waste in your aquarium causing your ammonia to spike, which is deadly for fish, prime will bind to ammonia (doesn't make it go away) making it non toxic for a short period of time. The ammonia can later be turned into nitrates which are not harmful at lowers concentrations to fish. Prime is not a fix all solution/conditioner, but with it being readily available at pet supply ... MoreI do recommend Prime and lets talk about why...#1 Chlorine and Chloramine (chlorine+ammonia), ammonia and nitrites are all really dangerous for fish. This product is an absolute MUST for anyone that has aquatic tanks of any kind. I use this every time I'm doing a water change, I use it to help cycle a new tank, it's the absolute best product on the market for tanks. The horrible smell is a good thing, and you want your bottle to smell. Those are all the beneficial things for your tank! A big bottle lasts a long time, ans it's definitely worth buying the biggest bottle you can find if you have big tanks, or lots of tanks. Only water conditioner I will trust and use with my aquatic animals.

Because of some rookie mistakes I accidentally killed most, if not all the beneficial bacteria in my tank. At the same time I had to get a small quarantine tank to lower my stock levels to help with the cycling while dealing and treating both tanks for ick. My ammonia levels were off the charts and prime, I’m convinced, saved my fish. I had several airstones going while medicating and treating with Prime because it can lower the oxygen levels, my fish were cured and survived while I got some cycled sponge filters from a friend to recycle my tanks. (It worked)! No fish were lost and they are all thriving now, a month later. But I’m definitely going to keep using this from now on. This product came highly recommended and I can see why. It not only detoxes heavy metals, but also takes care of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate spikes. My fish are all thriving and I will continue to repurchase. I have a 55 and a 29 gallon tank, and the bottles last a long time. I do a 10-30% water change every 1-2 weeks depending on test results.
I did some research and people have been recommending Prime, even Petco staff who have pet fish recommended Prime.I decided to give it a try. So far so good. It's only been a few days, but I could see the difference in my Betta fish as he's healing. He's up and swimming again. I also used Seachem Stability and Stress Guard with 1/2 tspn of Aquarium Salt in combination to help him.I thought I was going to lose my little betta because of my stupidity of using Melafix.I was told to use Melafix because it's a safe and natural way to treat any possible bacterial infections and promotes regrowth of damaged tissue and fins, especially when you're buying fish in the pet shop and don't know how many tanks they've been in prior to transport. Melafix also claims that it's recommended for treating newly introduced fish to reduce risk of disease outbreak. Well, Melafix almost killed my Betta.Little did I know that Betta's have Labyrinth Organs and Melafix should not be used with fish that has Labyrinth Organs. API should label their bottles of this warning but they won't.Luckily, Seachem Prime, Stability and Stress Guard did it's magic healing my betta. He's no longer lethargic. He's lively and eating again in his hospital tank with these great water conditioning treatments from Seachem.
I’ve been using Seachem Prime for years now. I breed African cichlids and only use the best. This is it 100%. I had a mishap over Christmas break and my Prime got lost in the mail. I use API Dechlorinator as a backup. I have been using API for 2 weeks now. I followed directions to a tee. Where to start. Lost over 200+ cichlids. Very rare species. I thought they had a parasite or something. 100% wasn’t the problem. I started having issues in all my Tanks. And I do not cross contaminate anything. Ever. My fish were coloring down, loosing appetites, short on breath, stressed bad and massive loss over a 2 weeks period. All the stores local to me were sold out of Prime. I drove 2 hours today to get some. My order will finally be in by Friday from what the tracking info ... MoreI’ve been using Seachem Prime for years now. No fish loss right after water changes, coloring back up in just a few hours and they actually ate way better tonight. Seachem Prime. You know how to make perfect Products. If you want the best don’t substitute ever. There is no comparison at all. Thank you from Joe @ Joes Fish Room
This product is a must have for any aquarium owner. The first reason is emergencies happen. An ammonia spike leads to a nitrite spike and potentially dead fish. One dose buys 48 hours to fix things. The second reason is you can change out the filter media without worry if you use this when cleaning the tank. No matter how you slice it, changing a filter cartridge means tossing away bacteria. This allows a complete media change (of mechanical media, not biological) and the bacteria can recover hopefully on the biological media that does not get replaced. This can persuade growth in places other than a filter pad that gets tossed once a month. Prime allows the bacteria to recover with zero harm to the fish.A third reason is when adding fish this all allow the ... MoreThis product is a must have for any aquarium owner. The first reason is emergencies happen. This can persuade growth in places other than a filter pad that gets tossed once a month. Prime allows the bacteria to recover with zero harm to the fish.A third reason is when adding fish this all allow the bacteria 48 hours per dose to adjust. As long as the filters and tank are established 48 hours will be all you need. Test to make sure and add a second dose when needed. The best reason is this does not interfere with tank cycling at all. The bacteria that eats ammonia will still grow and the same with nitrites. Products that just neutralize ammonia temporary stall the process. This will not. It is perfect to use for a sudden spike, cleanings and adding stock to make sure all are healthy. This just buys time but it is absolutely essential to have.
This is no doubt an essential chemical for your aquarium! Remember those 3 fish you added but are Dwarf Gouramis. They make a but if a mess along with my 2 very chubby Pepper Cory's. Here's the deal, you really do need this for a planted tank. You need this for an unplanned tank, fresh and salt. The Stability by Seachem should always be ready. Of course you use this premium conditioner for water changes. But when your look at your tank(s( you will know. Test the water 💧 immediately a few days after fish. Because of the heavier feeding required they then expel much more and that will spike everything, ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates it in to the water column. Detoxify your tank if you notice this but do take notice when something is off kilter. You will know from your ... MoreThis is no doubt an essential chemical for your aquarium! Seachem makes GREAT chemicals for the entire gamut. Check out Pristine. Check out Flourish both tabs and liquid.i am so grateful to Seachem as tgus buys me about 2 days MAX until like only a 20% WC. Can you tell I swear but this? Experience!
I never added chemicals to my 28 tanks had 10gal to 100 gal spent whole life on a well 90ft deep 1/4 mile from a spring fed lake near Mount Rainier tested every 5 yrs far more pure and cleaner than any city watermoved to a house with city water, the stench of chlorine is over poweringdidn't give it much thought at first, used charcoal but alot of dead fish the first year started doing research and besides adding fluoride chlorine they now add ammonia calling it chloramine: an organic compound containing a chlorine atom bonded to nitrogen, especially any of a group of sulfonamide derivatives used as antiseptics and disinfectants.THIS KILLS FISH!Seachem Prime out of all products i researched is by far the best to remove the nasty stuff they add to drinking water
