A bit noisy, but great performance

got two of these (6TB) for 118Fr each, quite impressive pricing compared to the competition and even when compared to segate's own desktop and NAS grade HDDs.The only downside is the relatively higher noise output compared to desktop grade HDDs (which is to be expected), I'm now using them in a 2-bay NAS 3m away from me, they are definitely audible when the room is quiet, but I would not say they are more noisy than NAS drives, they might just have a different pitch.

Failed to add this drive to RAID-array (4KN HDDs)

I bought this drive to replace failed SAS HDD in an old RAID-array. Documentation says that drive is compatible with both 512E and 4KN formats. Formatted at 512E by default, but can be easily re-formatted. At this moment I spent already few weeks trying to get instructions from RAID-controller and HDD vendors to make it working. Still failed.

The Exos (SAS) line is a fast and decent drive. this is the second time I am trying to get fresh drives from B&H. They issued an RMA for my original 4 that I purchased (RAID 10 array). The first set wound up being so old that they only had 3 years left on the 5 year Seagate warranty. These new ones were not much better. All drives fail eventually. I have over 50 various drive in different devices so having new drives that have already lost 40% of their warranty is not something that I am happy with. Don't get me wrong, B&H has been working with me to attempt to get the issue resolved and the drives perform very well in critical applications but I guess that since the SAS interface is used mostly in servers the inventory has not moved as fast as they anticipated. Great Drive
1 May 2020

Great drive so far. The ones sold and Shipped from Newegg are Retail, so they do indeed have the 5 year warranty. You need to register it on Seagates website. The website will probably say the warranty ends 5 years after Newegg received the drives. Just contact Seagates support about it and make sure they update the warranty end date to 5 years after YOU actually ordered the drive. You will probably go through a few reps before someone will fix the warranty issue and a rep or two might say that its an oem drive so the warranty isn't valid, but it IS in fact a Retail drive and their actually IS a 5 year warranty. Just be persistent about it. They will eventually fix the warranty.

Segate EXOS Drives

I hope this review is helpful to anyone looking at this line of drives and worried about some of the posted reviews related to experience/reliability. I have several hundred of the Seagate EXOS series drives from 1Tib to 14Tib deployed on production systems which I own, rent or administer - in all types of environments from climate controlled datacenter deployments to hot and dirty network closets in industrial environments. These products shine in Mission Critical NAS/SAN Storage, High availability Transactional Databases, Corporate Video Surveillance Storage Systems, Web Server Clusters and Email Server Clusters. I also deploy them in high powered workstations where endurance is necessary and/or desired. All of this endurance/reliability does not mean these drives are not at ease in the average home computer because they work great in an 'everyday' application if you don't mind the cost of entry. The workstation where I am writing this review has a pair of 1Tib Segate Enterprise drives in RAID 1 which have been happily spinning along for 5+ years. The bottom line is this: if your data or the data of your clients is important, these discs are an exceptional choice for reliability and high ROI (return on investment). I see reviews complaining about disc failures related to the EXOS/Enterprise line, I can confidently pass on that I have experienced no such problem with this line of drives. I have NEVER had an EXOS/Enterprise drive come DOA. This doesn't mean that DOA drives don't show up, I have simply never experienced this issue. Again, these drives are targeted for ENTERPRISE level storage systems - they can and do fail like any equipment. That being said, Seagate has NEVER failed to Warranty a failed disc (within the warranty period) from the systems within my responsibility. The difference here might be - ENTERPRISE users keep backup drives on site and in stock for immediate replacement when eventual failures occur so this generally does not become a game ending issue and warranty processing wait times are non-critical. As a service to people looking at this line of drives I checked the average age of my running drives and 65% of the deployed stock has been installed in production environments for 5+ years (approximately 250 drives). I have not had an EXOS disc failure in 235 days (as of this review). I generally purchase some of my discs directly from NEWEGG when the prices are right. Never a warranty issue related to direct purchase from a Seagate authorized reseller. MY CONCLUSION/OPINION: This is an exceptional line of ENTERPRISE level products with a good warranty and superb return on investment.

Strange

It seems a bit ridiculous to review a server hard drive a week after installation. I'm guessing there was no human intervention in the generation of this request for a review. This hard drive came well packaged in an easy to open box. The four screw holes accepted the screws with no problem. The hard drive slid easily into the bay. After one week, this hard drive has not failed. I give it two thumbs up.

This is a great drive! Just be sure you get one with a warranty though.

Remember, NewEgg may be an authorized Seagate reseller but there are third party sellers on here! I bought it from one of them accidentally, and I had to fight to get this covered under warranty. They were able to accomplish this for me in lieu of a return. Now that it's covered, I love the drive! Only Seagate Enterprise, WD Black, and WD Gold have a five year warranty.

Very impressed! Will purchase from vendor again! OEM drives are hard to ship because they lack any packaging protection. The drives (4) that I received were extremely well protected, with each drive cocooned in multiple layers of large-bubble wrap, and the remaining space in the box filled as well to prevent excessive movement. The drives are being used with an ancient 3ware 9650SE-ML RAID controller, and these Seagate Exos 7E8 enterprise drives are available with legacy 512 byte native physical & logical sectors (a.k.a. '512n'), not emulated (a.k.a. '512e'), on the ST4000NM000A model (4TB and SATA).

I put 4 of these into our Synology RS3618xs+ to expand the current capacity. I had no trouble configuring them as the Synology dashboard made for quick setup. Took 6 hrs to initialize for usage but so far the drives are quick and no issues.
