It's a typical spinning hard drive for laptops as far as speed goes. After rebuilding a gaming laptop with it, it felt slower than it should, but I'm used to using computers with SSD drives, though still, I've used computers since the 1980's with this "old" tech and it still felt slower than it should have. On the plus side, it doubled the storage for the laptop, but I'd recommend replacing regular hard drives with SSD's if you can afford them. They make a big usability improvement for any computer using spinning drives.

Drive works, but had a weird issue where it showed up as a 5tb drive in windows disk manager upon plugging into my laptop via a sata to usb adapter. Wait, 5tb? that can't be right? I fixed the issue by booting a ubuntu desktop I had and using gparted, to create new gpt info and then now it shows 2tb. Wow. Anyway, the drive works fine, and will be going into my ps4. I might be ordering another for my laptop. Thanks

I have several of these drives, as external drive to my several PCs as that each can add four more partitions to each system at 500 GB per partition. And wit special adaptors or brackets, I can select which 3½-inch enclosure I can use. At 6 GB SATA speed on a USB 2.0 port is still twice as fast even at 5400 RPM. USB 3.0 is still faster, but still as external it wont be that noticeable but internal it does.I wish Seagate make all future notebook HDDs at SATA III at 7200 RPM? There is where they lag behind Hitachi!

My situation is a bit more unique than most who may purchase this drive. I replaced the 500G HDD of my Xbox One with this 2TB drive, and while the process to configure the drive as a replacement was an adventure in itself, once everything was setup correctly, the drive acts and looks factory to the Xbox and User Interface with 1.9TB of space accessible for all your Games and Apps. No more installing a handful of 50+GB games and having to shuffle around which ones you want to keep when you run out of space, with 1.9TB at your disposal, you can load it up to your hearts content. Another bonus, is the dense configuration of the data on the platters as I mention in the Pro's section above, which helps make the game loading time improve a measurable amount. Another bonus, is the dense configuration of the data on the platters as I mention in the Pro's section above, which helps make the game loading time improve a measurable amount. It varies between games, but games like Forza 5 and 6, Destiny, and Halo all load quicker and seem to studder less then before the drive swap. The original 500G drive had a hard time holding more than 40MB/s transfers so going to a drive that can push 150MB/s+ even with the Xbox One limiting the drive to SATA 2 speeds, is going to be a big improvement. Why Microsoft insist on installing 500G and now at least 1TB, (But still only 1TB) drives into their Xboxes, and making the process to swap HDD's a real life side quest in itself, is beyond me. With some game installs ranging from 50-150GB, and internet speeds not improving anytime soon where I live, having the ability to install once and be ready at any time is a real blessing.
This 3TB HDD is a great sidekick in my photography travel kit. It can store a great number of photos in a compact package. I've used Seagate products and never had issued. Love this little drive.
This hard disk is better used for archiving. When using it for writing large amounts of data its performance will decrease dramatically (600kbps or lower). Luckily in Linux you can use the f2fs file system which will mitigate the limitations of the SMR (shingled magnetic recording). Had I known about this I probably would've no bought this hard disk. I do not know if this "fix" would be applied in a Windows system
Item tested without finding any bad sectors. Great price. Item packaged very securely. Item looks and works like new.
It works like any other small format HDD. I didn't need the 7mm format, but it attached to the caddy in my Lenovo Thinkpad and slid right in. It was recognized by Windows 10, formatted and worked as you would expect. SMART data checked out. The speed is what you would expect from an HDD. I got about 50MBps disk I/O with read and write being similar for a large file transfer. This is normal for this laptop and so similar to any other HDDs used that the data is not important. It has been installed since the end of last year and not been used much. But as of this writing it is still working just fine. I think the real value of this HDD is a niche, in which I am not included. This is for someone who needs a ton of not super-fast storage in a 7mm format. Perhaps a laptop ... MoreIt works like any other small format HDD. I didn't need the 7mm format, but it attached to the caddy in my Lenovo Thinkpad and slid right in. Perhaps a laptop with two drive slots, not too many applications, but some that need to access a large number of decent sized files? My two cents, FWIW, would be to only use SSDs in laptops. Faster, lighter, lower power consumption and more shock resistant. I can't count how many laptops I put a turbocharger on by simply replacing the 5400rpm HDD with a low grade SSD. Its amazing! A new laptop with a good SSD on SATA3, that is where it is at! Even if you have two drives in your laptops, one for applications and one for data, accessing a big file can still be a little frustrating if you are used to SSD speeds. At 802.11ac speeds, cloud storage starts looking pretty good. Only you know if you fit into the niche. Other than that the drive worked for me as you would expect.
Switching to a mini pc so needed smaller hdd for storages and workers like a charm. Great quality will buy brand again.
i bought this for a new laptop, after having bought another previously for a Hyundai mini-pc. thankfully, this is product is working out as well for my laptop as it has for my mini-pc. it is not designed to be as fast as, say, a Seagate FireCuda SSHD, and that is ok; Seagate's hard drives work well with Kingston/HyperX RAM sticks, and this laptop came with a Kingston RAM stick in it [for which i chose a hard drive that would not run faster than this stick is designed to run (compatibility considerations, in other words)]. to be fair, if this laptop had not already come with a Kingston/HyperX RAM stick installed [or came with a less than 2GB stick installed] i would have put a faster HyperX RAM stick in it along with a Seagate FireCuda SSHD. i like Seagate hard ... Morei bought this for a new laptop, after having bought another previously for a Hyundai mini-pc. thankfully, this is product is working out as well for my laptop as it has for my mini-pc. it is not designed to be as fast as, say, a Seagate FireCuda SSHD, and that is ok; Seagate's hard drives work well with Kingston/HyperX RAM sticks, and this laptop came with a Kingston RAM stick in it [for which i chose a hard drive that would not run faster than this stick is designed to run (compatibility considerations, in other words)]. to be fair, if this laptop had not already come with a Kingston/HyperX RAM stick installed [or came with a less than 2GB stick installed] i would have put a faster HyperX RAM stick in it along with a Seagate FireCuda SSHD. i like Seagate hard drives because i have come to appreciate the longevity of their hard drives, and their SkyHawkMini has already made all of the difference in this laptop--a Toshiba NB525-00H [the netbook line, on the whole, was discontinued in 2012].
