I bought this hard drive about 4 years ago with added insurance. I use this for my Xbox Series X hard drive and extend the amount to be able to download and play more games without having to dread uninstalling them. I do agree with some of the other customers reviews. After the year or second year. The device just randomly starts disconnecting itself, constantly reading and saying your device is ready and noone is touching it, constantly kicked me out of games installed on the external instead of internal. This I recommend since its in budget pricing and affordable. This would be good to use if you have a Xbox Series S or any console for Xbox less then 1TB. Use this to give it a little kick. Transfer speeds were pretty average, so it appears to at least work as a hard drive. Of course, on a Series X/S you can’t install X/S games on it because it’s not Seagate’s special sauce module, but it works for storing older Xbox One games. Time will tell if I end up losing all of my games because every Seagate drive I’ve ever owned in the past has crashed and burned early.

DOES NOT play Xbox series X Optimized games.

The advertising is a tad misleading. While it can STORE Xbox games and play some titles, this drive will NOT play Xbox Series X Optimized games. It's just another run of the mill external HDD. Not a bad product but not at all what I needed. My bad but saying it's Xbox certified as a drive is what the old timers call "Bait and Switch". Pays to do a bit of extra research. Whatever. Live and learn.

External Storage for XBox
5 February 2024

This is a cost effective way to increase storage on your Xbox. I was looking for something affordable as opposed to the extra storage cards that are over $200, and so far, this is working out great. My son is able to manage his storage appropriately and access any games that are stored on the external drive. Highly recommend if you want to spend under $200 for additional storage.

Fast set up and use of direct-connect external HD
21 May 2024

I bought this as a replacement for my Western Digital 1TB external HD that suddenly quit working (according to X-Box Series-X write-up, Microsoft did an update that "upgraded" features but killed USB 2.0, so was forced to upgrade to USB 3.0 and a 4TB Seagate). Though it appears great, I am finding almost weekly problems with the X-Box Series-X "dropping" the external drive, so I have to turn-off the X-box, disconnect the drive, swapping it to another USB 3.0 port (there are only two), reboot the X-Box and hope, pray, wince, pace, etc. dredding the X-Box won't show the external drive as an option...phew! Thus far (four times since receiving the Seagate 4TB drive), this method has worked.

NOT FOR SERIES S OR SERIES X
13 September 2024

Misleading product and title. This essentially serves no purpose if you have Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X. You cannot play any new games optimized for new gen that you download to the extended hard drive. If you try to start a new gen game it will say “Sorry, this game cannot be played from external storage, you’ll need to transfer it to a storage expansion card or the consoles internal storage”You’re literally better off keeping all your games downloaded on your account, there’s no difference between downloading games to this storage hard drive or just going to the Microsoft store and downloading from there

Not necessarily what it says it’s for
9 October 2023

These are mainly supposed to be to hold your entire game library, correct? Well games that are optimized for series S/X (which is literally over half the game library for Xbox) cannot be played from the drive itself. Only stored. You HAVE to have any series S/X games installed on your internal storage or a storage expansion card made for Xbox. The ones the plug into the back port (not the USB) of your Xbox for them to be playable. It’s dumb because I just spend $124 on this and am now returning it for the card. Hope this helps.

Seagate 2tb hhd review
8 July 2023

The seagate 2tb hhd is a very good purchase for people planning on playing a lot of games especially those who have brought their x box 360 and one games onto their series x/s. At $87 with tax it is a very reasonable price for the product. The green led lights in hhd are pretty cool. The only downside is that the seagate hhd can’t run most optimized x box series x/s only store them but some games optimized for the console can run on it. If you are willing to spend a couple bucks more you could other versions with more storage on them if you want but 2tb for me is enough for most I would say. You get 1 year limited warranty north + South America, Europe, Africa and most Asia get 2 and the rest of Asia + Oceania get three and we all get data recovery services in case ... MoreThe seagate 2tb hhd is a very good purchase for people planning on playing a lot of games especially those who have brought their x box 360 and one games onto their series x/s. Surprised this isn’t considered false advertising

Does the hard drive function as a hard drive? Yes it does. Is it compatible with the latest XBox? Well that apparently is complicated and deceitful. What I mean by this is sure it plugs into the xbox fine, you can store games on it, but if those are series x/s games well you cant play them from the storage device you have to transfer them to your Xboxs main hard drive to play the actually game or spend $150 on their proprietary “expansion cards” to be able to play them not from the direct hard drive. I am not sure how this wouldnt be something that is described with in the specifications, ya know, the fact that you can only play older games not considered x/s, but here we are slapping a “xbox certified” stamp of approval that doesn’t truly do what it advertises it ... MoreDoes the hard drive function as a hard drive? Shame on Seagate, Shame on Microsoft, and Shame on Best Buy for being deceitful to their customers and allowing marketing to prey on unsuspecting victims. I will be reporting all companies involved though i know it will more than likley be ignored.

Worth it
25 October 2023

I would say this is worth the purchase but I will say it's not in terms of size. At least if you game like I do. The size runs up very quickly with how big games are nowa days unfortunately.Otherwise it's good if you don't intend to have a BUNCH of games.Only had a few issues of it randomly disconnecting from my Xbox. Couldn't even use a new cord for it because it would lag my Xbox :/
