I built a computer for my pops recently since his much older one failed a few months back. I chose this hard-drive because it was inexpensive, but still had a good enough amount of space on it to serve his needs for a very long time.It loads fast enough and does its job, there's not much more to say about it really. Would buy again if I needed to build another budget PC.The 500 GB might not be a satisfactory number for people who download a lot of things or install a lot of games. But it still provides a nice starting platform for up and comers.

Seagate is my go-to brand for hard drives. They are reliable, fast and inexpensive to get in very large capacities. I was surprised that this 500 GB drive is a great deal thinner and lighter than the 80 GB it replaces. I also love that it comes with NO software loaded, so I can load what I want, rather than having to deal with all the garbage that comes in "LOADED" computers. This lack of useless software is helping me keep this drive mostly empty and running fast. I am sure that my gaming and record keeping will fill the drive up fast enough. I don't need the stuff that wouldn't sell at all if it wasn't pre-installed taking up space.

Bought as 2nd drive to supplement SATA SSD boot drive, for older PC that came with no drives. Unit came with "Certified Repaired" label - and I have no reason to think that's not so. No issues installing, formatting. CrystalMark speed test results are what I expected. Good value for what it is - as long as it holds up. Installed it only last month.

I totally recommend this drive, for the size and the speed of the cache it is a great buy! I have been running my non stop for about a month now with no flakiness or other stability issues. This thing is solid, and I mean solid, it weighs a hefty amount. Something I guess to keep in mind if you move your tower around for gaming or what not. Over all i a love the space and speed for the price.
Overall I love these cheap hard drives. They're a good amount of storage and perfect for selling computers. Though the amount of use and abuse on each is different so some are better than others. Some can be really quite slow and bottleneck the system a bit running at 100% for awhile after boot up in task manager. Others don't have the same issue. I'd say it's 50/50 and I've bought about 5 of these from the same seller. Pros: - the GB per dollar is amazing and cannot be beat - Seagate name brand - Standard SATA interface - Almost constantly available at the same great price from this seller Cons: - Kinda a lottery some are good some are less good - A few of mine had dings and scratches to the label Ain't the fastest, but gets the job done for cheap Highly Recommended
-This drive is oddly built, due to how big the storage is most likely. My PC case (Enthoo Luxe) has HDD trays for screwless installation, but this hard drive doesn't have middle screw holes. Ok fine, so I removed the rubberized easy install pegs, but then the drive STILL didn't fit in the tray; my trays have a little plastic peg to go into the bottom of the HDD where most HDDs have a space for the peg. However this drive is so huge that the bottom is completely solid, so that plastic stabilization peg has nowhere to rest, thus pushing the drive up and making it crooked. Luckily the drive was DOA so I didn't have to think twice about returning it.
A few years of power-on time (obviously as this was probably some data center backup drive) but runs pretty quiet and has fast RW speeds of 130MB/s+. No bad sector or anything alarming in SMART. A tiny bit of dust in the back side but the front looks *pristine*. Not so much as a fingerprint... Must buy for budget-oriented builds!
I was really hesitant because I read all the review saying that people received and installed them and they were crazy loud and almost unbearable. Mine has been amazing. I haven't had a single problem with it. I just transferred a 2.73GB movie from my SSD to this HDD in about 20 seconds. I've backed up friends entire computers and externals with this. I'm happy with my purchase.
I have had high success with Seagate drives for over 20 years .......similar topic .......to help fix bugs in the ReactOS free operating system ........I have discovered that ReactOS is not compatible with some ps2 optical scroll mice ........when I booted ReactOS several times .....the mouse arrow remained frozen on the screen and would not move .......this problem continues in ReactOS version 0.4.7 ....... ReactOS is a free clone of Windows NT. ........it is extremely difficult to email team ReactOS so I posted this open feedback. ......thank you for reading this.
Better description of part. Part no. is correct, but plastic attached face is wrong color and wrong size. I tried grinding it to fit, but could not get it to fit and function correctly. Contour is different. Therefore, I did not attempt to return it. My loss.
