Just for reference, I ride a cbr600rr with Hyperflo exhaust (...which isn’t quiet) and have a Scorpion EXO helmet. I wrote this review almost 3 months (and 1600ish miles) after installing it.

As an audio guy, I understand my standards for sound quality are probably higher than ordinary. Purchasing the 5s, I didn't expect much in the way of frequency response or volume - but I did expect that I'd be able to at least HEAR the unit playing at speeds of over 40 miles per hour.Not only is the 5s' audio completely inaudible over 40 mph, the 5s essentially puts a cheap $2 piezoelectric speaker in each of your ears. There is nothing audible below 500 hz. There is phasing between the two speakers. There is distortion, ducking, it's really really incredible how BAD the audio is for $160. The claim of "HD Audio" is an absolute scam. And now that I have it out of box and installed, I find myself unable to return the product. Install is a bit messy with all the wires and having to take out the helmet liner to feed everything through.Sound quality for music is “okay”— nothing special and I actually ended up blowing my speakers out after a few months... this is with a stock exhaust on an MT, so either Im going deaf or the speaker quality is lacking. Sound quality for phone calls is incredible— People are able to hear everything im saying and the mic is not affected by wind or road noise at all... pretty amazing. Battery life is not bad (i can get about 6-7 hours of active use before it starts to die). It doesn't hold well from the start and quickly becomes completely ineffective. Velcro is a quick, easy and cheap solution for mounting the mic but really just doesn't work.2 - Other reviews state that the audio is great but I disagree, it's average at best. If having a phone conversation it's ok. Listening to music it's ok. When speaking to your passenger com to com it sounds washed out and not clear.3 - The blue tooth connection between com units has what is in my opinion an unusually long latency. The latency also will very from something relatively short like maybe 50 or 60 milliseconds to what is other times more like 500 to 1000 milliseconds. In other words there is often as much as a .5 to 1 second delay from when you speak and when that audio is actually heard on the connected com. When communicating bike to bike this wouldn't be noticeable but communicating pilot to passenger its very noticeable and quit irritating. While in a moment when you can hear your passenger's actual voice then what happens is you hear them speak then a second later you hear that audio in the headphones. So it's like a echo effect, it's ridiculous.4 - These units have zero noise rejection. In no way could these be used without a full faced or at minimum a shielded helmet. Shielded helmets is what we are using presently. If the air is calm it's not so bad but if riding in the wind then that's all you hear is the wind buffeting the microphones. If the microphones had a larger foam pop screen filter over them instead of the tiny thin ones that they have it certainly would help.5 - When in use a random beep is sometimes heard at which point the coms will be sometimes disconnected and the side button has to be pushed to reconnect. One time music from my phone began playing over the coms when no such commands had been initiated.6 - At first answering the phone and having a phone conversation worked as intended but now when a call is received and answered I can hear the caller but they can't hear me. I've tested with a number of different incoming calls yielding always the same malfunctioning result.These units have the features that might be expected with this type of tech but the execution leaves much to be desired, in my opinion. Maybe this is the best that can be expected for three hundred bucks but I swear the cheap toy walkie-talkies that I had as a kid functioned better than these things do.I'll be employing a more solid way to mount the microphones, probably some tiny screws. Also some bigger foam pop screen filters for the mics.As for the rest of the issues we'll just have to tolerate them until I can afford to again roll the dice on something hopefully better than this sub-par system.

At max volume, the speakers just reached the edge of distortion. I wish it had more volume, but as an electrical engineer, and knowing how small the speakers are, I know there's a limit on this (both available power in the unit, and the specs of the speakers), so I'm ok with it.Before riding, I walked around my yard and out to the street wearing the helmet while my phone was on my coffee table, and it never once lost comms, and sounded great.The package included both a boom mic and a wired mic, but because my helmet face flips up, I didn't want to use the wired mic, with half it's cable hanging with the face up, so I used the boom mic, and got it placed perfectly.I called a buddy on my Android phone, and he never knew I was talking thru my helmet system, he thought I was just talking out my *ss as normal - LOL.People have asked how many riders can be paired with this intercom system - per the manual, you (the rider) plus 3 friends, total of 4 people.So if you rode 2 up, and a friend also rode 2 up, all 4 of you can chat while riding.See my photos above for some install pix, and how it looks.
Originally purchased 7 years ago, as a double pack. Primary use for comms between passenger and I. Installation was a bit tricky but relatively straight forward. Fishing speaker/mic wires inside helmet liners can be an art in itself. I was weary of using the clamp mount because of durability but after 7 years I have never had a problem with it coming off or being loose. Functionality is simplistic and awesome with the Jog Dial. Finding the Jog Dial consistently with summer gloves or thick winter gloves is easy. I have an Arai with a Sena 10U(“flushmount” unit w everything inside helmet) it has a mandatory Bt remote control unit that mounts on the handlebars. I pushed it back on but it eventually jumped ship while on the highway. After all these years, the finished coating on the units have become a tacky rubbery finish. Not sure if it’s sun wear or 100,000 hrs of high speed wind exposure.Someone mentioned Sena units ease of use not being seamless like Apple products, well I say CHILL OUT. Read the manuals, practice procedures and things will become easier. Technology comes with a learning curve. Put the effort in to understand it.
I read all of the reviews of all of the models and they all sounded the same. People had the same complaints about these as they did about the much more expensive models, so I decided to go with these more affordable models. I didn’t need all of the features available on the more expensive models. All I really wanted was to be able to talk to my pilon passenger at highway speeds and these work great. Some of the comments talked about wind noise and interference. I think maybe a lot of that might have to do with your helmet. With a full face helmet, sound is clear, no wind noise. 1 review even suggested using the boom mike option with a full face helmet which is just bananas and not necessary. Instructions for setup are a little unclear, but you’ll figure it out.
