I previously commented but forgot to post the proof in the painting. I used to use Daniel Smith PV19 Quinacridone Rose but I switched to Sennelier's Rose Madder Lake PV19 and what a difference. It does not dull down when drying and that is what I was noticing and it was really affecting my washes. Since Sennelier is known botanically speaking I was very happy with their PV19 and it can get almost as bright as opera pink when I added a small amount of an orange/red by DaVinci (not leaving the recipe). Reference to Sennelier's PV19 Rose Madder Lake. I use a mixed palette as many do for various reasons. I chose this pigment from Sennelier because it does not dull down and have such a drying shift as compared to other brands and in particular Daniel Smith Quinacridone Rose. I use watercolor from Daniel Smith as well as others but for anyone looking for the my favorite lightfast smooth bright Rose color that can creates the most lovely and lively blends then this one is my go to. I purchased the Sennelier Artists' Watercolor paint in "Brown Pink". after seeing a review of this particular color, which is neither brown nor pink, but found it intriguing that the color lends itself to mixing with other green shades of watercolor to create interesting foliage colors (I'm sure it will be useful for all sorts of other types of compositions other than just landscapes/treescapes). I've not used it extensively yet, but I'll enjoy more experimenting with it. It seems to be ground quite fine and creates very smooth washes.

Sennelier is my go-to for watercolors, and this particular purchase of good old Titanium White was as satisfactory as all my other Sennelier purchases. It unfailingly produces a rich, colorfast result, and is superb when used straight out of the tube for highlights, etc. It's more expensive than many other watercolors, but it's worth it. Sometimes you just get what you pay for. I highly recommend this particular tube of paint, as well as all others produced by Sennelier.
I really wanted to like this(21ml WC tubes) paint, but maybe I just don't understand it. I purchased 3 tubes, spread over 2 or 3 orders, over a period of a couple of months, and all of them arrive separated & basically oozing the honeyesque binder/humectant. I leave all of the WC that arrives by mail at room temp. for at least 24 hrs before opening. Reading about this issue I did the rolling/shaking/mixing thing in an attempt to mix things up a bit to make sure, but the results were the same.The paints were two single pigment colors, and the French Ochre. The Fr. I use this brand of watercolor (along with other brands as well) for traditional painting techniques. The inclusion of honey in the formula allows the color to re-wet more easily than other brands and tends to produce more even washes as well. The color strength is more than what most artists painting realism would need, and mixes very well to create a believable palette for any subject matter.
I love my Sennelier paints. I have almost the entire line, collected over a few years now, with repeat purchases, so that should say something. And Sennelier's 21 ml tubes are a fantastic value. I also like that the smaller tubes are 10 ml instead of 5 ml as most brands carry, so even a small tube is a great value and will last a good while. A few of my favorites are Yellow Sophie, Helios Purple, Chinese Orange, Dioxazine Purple, Scarlet Laquer, Opera Rose, French Vermillion, and of course, Sennelier makes the best French Ultramarine. I bought a tube of Yellow Sophie because I had to know what it looked like. I was not disappointed. It's a gorgeous, clear, super vibrant yellow, and now essential in my world.
I now know why the tubes come in larger sizes for the price. The paint is extremely creamy. I should not have bought so many colors, because I don't like the way they handle. There is less depth of color than I'm accustomed to. They do lift easily, but it's much more difficult to get saturated color with these. Some tubes, Caput Mortum, was especially bad, squeezed out almost half the tube with clear amber sticky liquid, which I expect is mostly honey used as the binder. This had to be cleaned out of my palette before I could get to any pigment. I'm glad I'm not painting outside, I'd attract bees.
Being new to watercolor I have dabbled around with different brands.I've come to enjoy three brands and probably will stick with them. Schmincke, though it is so expensive it is mostly a splurge.Winsor and Newton, which is the classic.And Sennelier.I've used Sennelier products in other mediums and have always found them refined and well done. You can tell they take pride in their products.And why it is such an old and well regarded brand.The paint goes on smooth. The colors are bright and pure. A clean look.They play nice with the brushes and other brands.You just cannot go wrong buying Sennelier.Tres Magnifique.
I have a mixed palette as far as name brands. To me from the many many different types of PV19 or Sennelier's Rose Madder Lake is the absolute best for that bright quinacridone Rose color closest to an Opera yet lightfast. I have Daniel Smith's quin Rose PV19 and was suggested to try Sennelier's because DS version dulls down as it dries. My "permanent alizarin crimson" PV19 is from DaVinci and is meant to be a bit darker but I just can't believe the difference in my painting from switching DS version to Sennelier's. Thank you!
