Sennelier : Watercolour Paint : Half Pan : Green Earth

L'Aquarelle Sennelier has been produced the same way for more than a century using the best pigments and the highest quality Kordofan gum Arabic as a binder. This blend of natural ingredients produces colors that have a smooth, light texture and offer vibrant, colorful hues. The combination of Arabic gum and honey offers an exceptional application quality that produces excellent wash. This base is then mixed with pigments and carefully milled. Sennelier makes sure to wet the pigments in purified water (without mineral salts) for 24 hours before mixing with the binder. This improves the way the colours and the adhesive fuse together, which in turn enhances the full beauty of the colours.

Caput Mortuum - My favorite brown watercolor

Sennelier and W&N are the only 2 companies that make Caput Mortuum, my favorite brown, its a violety chocolate brown crossed with indian red that has strong texture. I much prefer sennlier for the soft re-wettability thanks to the honey. its so good for fur and wildlife painting! However, do note it is prone to separating, I highly recommend mixing with a toothpick in the tube before squeezing onto your palette

Excellent product -- reliable and of high quality

Sennelier is my go-to for watercolors, and this particular purchase of good old Titanium White was as satisfactory as all my other Sennelier purchases. It unfailingly produces a rich, colorfast result, and is superb when used straight out of the tube for highlights, etc. It's more expensive than many other watercolors, but it's worth it. Sometimes you just get what you pay for. I highly recommend this particular tube of paint, as well as all others produced by Sennelier.

Great improvement by Sennelier.

I use a very limited palette (usually 13 colors) and I have tried all the usual brands to get the ones I want for intensity of color, workability, and drying results. Sennelier appears to have made a change in their processing a few years back because some of their colors are now in my box. I thought the burnt sienna was a bit watery at first, but it applied normally and the dried result was excellent.

I'm just mad about Sennelier Rose Madder Lake
23 February 2024

A rose by any other name wouldn't look as rosy. Love creamy Sennelier paints, and a touch of rose in the sky, maybe reflecting in the Lake. Sunset or sunrise, your guess. #blicksweepstakes

Nice set - with some small changes
23 April 2016

I had heard good things about this brand but I noticed the color mixing chart on a blog showed a disproportionate number of dark mixes and the included colors did not have a warm yellow or earth yellow so when I ordered this set, I also added some extra pans. In addition, the box will hold 14 so I added to the palette as well with only one color necessarily removed. In the end, I removed the included purple which is not lightfast anyway and added a deep yellow, raw sienna and Viridian green. I did switch warm sepia for raw umber but the colors are close so that isn't necessary. I found my mixing chart to be much more balanced with these changes! They are very nice to use and I am very pleased with them. The only set I find reaching for more for certain pieces where I want clearer, bright almost luminescent tones is Winsor and Newton professional pans which I picked up about the same time.

Sennelier watercolors are lovely to use
21 October 2023

I have been using Sennelier tube watercolors for several years in floral and bird paintings, I bought the 12+ 6 tray as an affordable way to try out the pans. Were I to select the colors I would not have included those made of multiple pigments as I prefer single pigment paints; also I am not sure of usefulness of both paynes grey and ivory black. That said, the paints handle very nicely and rewet immediately; they also layer very well. No quality complaints. The palette has room to add several more colors and has plenty mixing area, also the pan tray comes out to give even more mixing area.

I am new to watercolors. I started with a basic set of tubes from the local art store. I noticed that I couldn't reproduce anything I saw in books or videos and thought it was just my lack of knowledge. My wife urged me to buy some higher quality paint from Blick. I finally relented and after much research decided Sennelier was the best deal. There is no comparison between what I started with and these magnificent watercolors. A speck of these high quality paints have more pigment than a dolop the size of a bean from the starter sets. The paint flows and reacts as it should and produces artwork that I'm proud of....even though I'm just a newbie. Very nice little watercolour field set
27 September 2012

I got the Landscape version of this set as it was on clearance at Blick, and overall I am very happy with it. The box feels lightweight but so far it seems sturdy enough, and I like the brush that came with the set. Also, the mixing palette that folds out of the bottom like a little drawer is wonderful. My only complaints are about the colours themselves. Firstly, it is a shame that they have included the very fugitive Alizarin Crimson in a set of otherwise lightfast colours; they could have at least included a more durable alternative. Secondly, and I don't know if I just got a dud pan or if this pigment is like this in general, but the Terre Verte pan is very weak and wishy-washy; even when I slather heaps of it on the paper with very little water, it barely makes ... MoreI got the Landscape version of this set as it was on clearance at Blick, and overall I am very happy with it. I would rather they had included a dark green or maybe a light grass green in its place. I will probably replace these two colours with something better eventually, but I still think the set was a great bargain. It's compact size makes it perfect for throwing into a bag with a small sketchbook and taking into the field.

brilliant color provides a wide range of tints
26 December 2016

Strong, brilliant color comes off the pan easily, probably due to the paint's honey content. I see much the same effect with M. Graham watercolors, which also incorporate honey. Because the color is strong they dilute to a wide range of tints as you add more water. You can easily go from strong, dark tones to light, effervescent tints with almost any of the colors. This is going to be an excellent set for plain air painting next spring when the temperatures and light graduate from our cold gloomy winter! This is my first metal paint box and having something that was not made of plastic was a strong incentive toward buying this set. My plastic palettes always stain after a while and it was irritating me quite a bit. This was the 12 color set plus 6 additional 'free' colors. That's too many for my tiny aging brain to deal with and, to be honest, there are a couple of colors for which my own personal taste says 'ick'. I have no need for black, for example, and it's going to be replaced by Windsor & Newton's gorgeous Transparent Yellow before we exit our cozy cave into the real world. I'll get it down to 12 at some point and then I'll be happy. Probably. For a while. ;)Mike

love the paints
22 June 2016

I love Sennelier paints and the opportunity to get a pan with them was a great deal - especially since there were 6 bonus paints. After using them a bit, I realize that the extra paints seem more like paints they were getting rid of than really useful. I would have been nice if they were unique colors that would encourage you to try different colors. On the pan, it's ok. I'm not comfortable with how the pans rattle around or how they can sometimes even come loose while I'm painting. When I try to bend the prongs to hold tighter to the pans, it seems like it is tilting the pans. I'm a little ocd and would prefer my pans to remain flat.I also expected the enamel part to not stain so easily. Fortunately, I recently learned that oil can be used to remove the blue. ... MoreI love Sennelier paints and the opportunity to get a pan with them was a great deal - especially since there were 6 bonus paints.
