I received this microphone as a free gift from Wex with the purchase of a full frame camera and at the RRP my expectations were not high. What a mistake - this is a little gem with good quality sound. Easy to use, just 'plug and play' and the furry windshield makes a significant difference to the recorded sound. Have used in-built microphones in the past and had to put up with persistent wind noise on videos, even in a light breeze. Worth buying even if you are just a casual video shooter as it is small and light and can almost live on the hot shoe. Excellent, thanks Wex!

I already own the MKE 400 and XSW-D and have used plenty of Sennheiser products so know the quality to expect, however I am still pleasantly surprised by this for an unpowered microphone which normally aren't something I would consider. The noise floor is very low considering and I could adapt this into my workflow quite easily - the price point is particularly interesting. I would recommend this for beginners, but also as a back up or second audio source for more pro end users looking to add something to their current set up for not much money. Great bit of kit overall.

Mic is a little bright, but that's good in most situations. I wish the phone holder would articulate backwards, but it is very built. Tripod is basic and quick to set to angles which it holds well and can carry some weight. My only gripe is the blue color used on the mic cords, I prefer black. It was easy enough to replace the cable with a short straight black version.

I've been trying to find the ideal microphone for fitting to compact cameras, for use on gimbals etc for some time. I have several that are OK but, until now, that's all they were... OK. At last, Sennheisser have made the mic I've been looking for. The sound quality is excellent, it has an incredibly low noise floor, it's small and light, it seems rugged, the shock mount works and its directional qualities are ideal. I'll be getting a lot of use out of this one! The others will be appearing on eBay soon.
I used the Sennheiser MKE 200 for the first time to record interviews and broll during the recent snowstorm. The 200 was attached to iPhone 8 Plus. As you can see and hear, during interviews there was lots for snow, sleet, wind and noise from plows. Under the circumstances, I thought the mic did a very good job of allowing me to maintain social distance while capturing soundbites. On the negative side, the MKE 200 quickly drained my phone’s battery. However, I must add that the temperature was in was in the 20s F when I was recording, which likely had a significant impact on battery drain. Therefore, I give this product a 5-star review. It does what it’s supposed to do. It gives me versatility, especially since I don’t want to destroy my main camera and Sennheiser ... MoreI used the Sennheiser MKE 200 for the first time to record interviews and broll during the recent snowstorm. It does what it’s supposed to do. It gives me versatility, especially since I don’t want to destroy my main camera and Sennheiser MD 46 in that weather. All video and sound was recorded with the aforementioned gear. Incidentally, I was using a JOBY GripTight PRO TelePod for handheld shooting. I was recommended to buy the Sennheiser MKE200 on-camera microphone because I was looking to enhance the films that I make for our online business. I chose Sennheiser because I have some of their other products and know the quality is consistently good. I was not disappointed with the MKE200 as the sound quality is exceptional, it was easy to use with my Canon 700D. The mic brings a brightness of sound with is lacking in the built-in camera mic. It was quick and easy to use and set up. It was a speedy delivery and service, all in all a great buy!
As far as shotgun mics go, you get what you pay for, and this mic is no exception. The hardware is solid, the mic gives a good signal in the three cameras I've tested it with, and the kit includes everything you'd want for a 'run and gun' small shotgun mic. The reason I bought it was to have a portable more directional mic on my Canon Vixia camcorder, and on my Nikon D750, and it works well enough for that purpose. Don't expect to replace a pro shotgun mic though. This mic picks me up well 3-6' away, but the level falls off a bit after that. Additionally, the sound isn't as 'full' as more expensive mics, or using a lav. For the hardware, cables, and soft case you get, it's a great value. For the quality of the end result, it's a only a 'good' value. I have been using this mic for some time now and have come to realize it is good and bad based on your applications. its good for 1. if you are recording voice or your subjects voice by using this mic as on camera or connected to pole 2. its very compact --it doesn't come in your shots even with a wide angle lens 3. Very solid construction and built in shock mount and windscreen are very good for general purpose use 4. Built with materials and tight tolerances and attention to detail is very high as you can expect from a german design product. 5. There are no moving or falling off parts, even the cable can be screwed in Its not good for 1. It adds a little hiss to your audio while recording -- this can be removed in post 2. Its base( broadcast quality audio) when compared to rode mic is less or not present( it may be good for people who don't need it) 3. Good for audio recordings as it does not produce( produces less) any artifacts as compared to shotgun mics 4. Connector is in the front and not in the back Best application: 1. Off-camera or on-camera mic for indoor youtube videos. 2. Recording voice. Not so good for : Outdoor blogs I found it difficult to remove the hiss of the mic and the background noise as they blended very well( this may be a positive aspect as well) All in all a good buy, $100 may look high but it comes with a lot of accessories which if you count the cost individually will mount up to the same number if bought separate. As I mentioned based on your application you can decide to buy
Got this free as a promo item and I personally don't have any use for it because I shoot on an XLR compatible camcorder and already have the MKE 600--this is probably only a worthwhile investment if you're filming on a DSLR, or maybe if you're filming on an iphone (but even then you would need to buy a separate kit to make this mic compatible with lightning connectivity). Is a good limited function directional mic for entry level video creators, or for those who strictly make vlog-style videos and are budget conscious. That being said, if you can afford to upgrade to even the MKE 400 I think the extra $100 is worth the investment if you will be shooting content with more demanding audio needs (filming outside, filming from further away, etc.)
Sound is a little shy below 200Hz. Relatively low noise and the best immunity from outdoor wind noise with furry of 5 mics tested. Solid build, locking cable to mic, inconspicuous (no large, fragile red hoops), natural cardioid directional with wide acceptance angle, no close up pops from speech and without noticeable proximity effect. Passable reduction of contact noise. Immune from mild indoor wind noise without the furry, it essentially comes with it's own blimp. Also good on rf rejection as were all the other mics, except Tascam XY.
