A Fantastic set of headphones

Here are my 2 cents on the headphones. The battery life is insane, the advertised 60hours at mid-volume is pretty close to what I've gotten. Other than the initial charge to full, I only needed to charge them once last night. Probably the best aspect of these headphones is never having to charge them which seems kinda weird, but being double the battery life of XM5s or QC's its pretty notable. The audio quality is great. I'm not an audiophile but they sound great (what you'd expect from Sennheiser) with punchy bass and crispy highs. if the audio profile doesn't suit you the Sennheiser app provides an EQ to help you tune the audio to your taste. The ... MoreI purchased a pair of these headphones almost week ago and haven't taken them off my head other than to sleep. I'm not an audiophile but they sound great (what you'd expect from Sennheiser) with punchy bass and crispy highs. if the audio profile doesn't suit you the Sennheiser app provides an EQ to help you tune the audio to your taste. The active noise cancellation (ANC) and transparency modes work well but lag behind some of the competitors in the space (eg the sony xm5s). The ANC still works well and honestly if you aren't directly comparing them next to other headphones you won't even notice. The build quality is magnificent. The padding and headband are comfortable, and overall makes wearing them for long periods of time very easy. So people say that the weight is kinda heavy but i like the weight as the heft makes them feel a bit more durable. The touch controls work well and let you control most of the features straight from the right ear cup. The smart pause feature will pause your audio when you take off the headphones or remove the right earcup but doesn't pause the audio when you remove the left earcup for whatever reason, which is weird not to include, but if I don't want my music to pause as I talk to somebody I just remove the left earcup. I guess I could justify it as unintentionally providing flexibility in using the headphones. The app that Sennheiser offers as a companion with the headphones, which lets you tune the EQ, create sound zones, and change side tones works well. with that being said I have noticed that the headphones don't automatically connect to the app when i open it up (even if they are connected to my phone) and will take a second to connect. there has been a couple of occasions where the app just can't connect to my momentum 4s at all, and I've gotta turn off my headphones to reconnect them to the app which can be a bit annoying. also updating the firmware on the headphones take a while so do it at night if you plan on doing it. Even with all that being said the app can be fixed and doesn't really diminish the experience.Overall these are great headphones. If you don't mind not having the best in class ANC (but still good) and a mildly buggy app these headphones are fantastic. The battery life and audio quality alone are reasons enough for me to suggest the headphones.

They cost less than the Sony WH-1000XM5 (both are often compared in terme of quality) and the refurbished Momentum 4 offer some prices that are way more affordable than Sony.Ease of use: The headphone works great with the basic fonctions and the app give a lot of additionnal control on the setting to customise the headphone. However, the tactile controls are not always working and it is easy to touch it without wanting to. The app is also slow when opening it, but it works great once it is open. Apart from this, they are easy to use and the fonctionnality to pair simultaneously on two devices which is very nice when switching from phone to laptop. In the end, they are more complicated to learn and setup if you want some specific settings but they are way more customisable than other headphone and they only needed to be setup one time.Service: The first pair of headphone stopped working so i had to return them. The customer service went out of their way to resolved the problem and they were very kind. The service was really fast for customer service because they always responded on the same day even during the weekend.

And colleagues in video calls have commented my voice sounds nice and clear. And they felt instantly comfortable: nice and light, with a good level of clamping force, comfortable headband and ear pads. I can wear them for many hours without any discomfort. The battery life is amazing – it’s almost ludicrous how little I need to charge them. I use them travelling to and from the office, and for hours while I’m in the office, and I think I probably don’t charge them more than once a week. Also the hard carrying case is very good, doing a great job of protecting the headphones while travelling. So there are definitely some very positive things going for the Momentum 4 – and if these are the most important aspects of a noise cancelling headphone then it could be a good match for you.But unfortunately, for me, they also have some significant flaws. The build quality is generally ok – and I have no objection to using plastic – but I often experience a plastic creaking sound when moving my head. It’s only in the right side and I guess this could vary between individual headphones, so your mileage may vary. The touch controls are hit and miss for me. Sometimes it doesn’t seem to register my input, while other times I accidentally brush against the ear cup and something random will happen. If I try to change the volume I’m sometimes not really sure if it worked or not – and occasionally if I try to pause the music it’ll switch off the noise cancelling instead. I just don’t get on with the touch controls and dearly wish it had buttons instead.Oh, and it makes blippy bleepy noises every time you do anything – and sometimes when you don’t. Some people appreciate this kind of feedback sound, but for me it’s irritating not to have the option to switch it off.Bizarrely, I don’t seem to have any control over whether the headphones are switched on or off. I’ll explicitly turn them off using the sole button on the headphones, only for them to turn themselves back on again later. With such good battery life maybe this one isn’t as important, but it still feels a bit odd to me.Sometimes they automatically turn themselves on when I put them on my head – and sometimes they don’t. And sometimes when I put them on, the noise cancelling has turned itself off for no apparent reason and I need to go into the mobile phone app to turn it back on again. The auto play/stop feature doesn’t work very well for me, so I turned it off in the app. For instance, when I took them out of the case, the headphones would turn themselves on and start playing the last track I listened to.I don’t think my pair is faulty – I just think the controls and ‘smart’ features have been poorly implemented. The active noise cancelling performance is reasonable. The negative part is that they don’t seem to cope well with wind when worn outside – I frequently experience traffic noise coming and going when there’s some wind. They’re generally fine in the office though.I can find these frustrating headphones to use. I would have sacrificed a little sound quality for better usability.I feel sennheiser has overengineered the Momentum 4, when I think they would have been better removing some of the ‘smart’ features, getting rid of the touch controls and focusing on getting the basics really solid.

Along with a quick tip manual, a USB C cable, aux cable, and 2 male prong aux to female aux adapter (for flights) were included with the headphones. After previously owning a pair of Sennheiser headphones during the early craze of the Beats days, I knew to expect outstanding audio quality and comfort. The earcups are soft and while the can make the outside of your ears sweat a little, were comfortable enough for me to be worn for hours at a time without ear strain. In addition to the comfort, they truly sound amazing and immerse you into what you're listening. From the blows of fighting to the wind blowing when watching the anime Attack on Titan, I really was in awe of how I could hear every detail in each scene. The bass trembled when buildings were toppled. Dialogue was crisp. As for music, highs were well pronounced and did not sound harsh. Lows were smooth and did not overly engross the music. To put how well these headphones sounded in perspective, I usually do not like to exclude myself from the outside world by drowning out outside noise with headphones. After wearing them for several hours, I am brought back to wanting to experience the immersive audio again. In addition to the thrilling audio, the Momentum 4 has outstanding battery life. According to Sennheiser, it is able to last 60 hours on a single charge. In my testing, I found the same. After using them for several hours a day (1-3 hours each day, sometimes less or more) for several weeks (not days, WEEKS), they performed amazingly and it wasnt until the beginning of the 4th week I had to charge them. WOW, crazy battery life. Another thing to also note is audio can be played wired without the need for the battery. If the battery does die, you are still able to play music wired via the aux port.Sennheiser added touch sensitive controls to their newest headset and included them on the outside of the right earcup. Actions include control for audio, calls, and noise cancellation. One of the actions while listening to audio is by tapping on the surface on the outside of the earcup, audio can be played and paused. Another action that can be done while listening to audio is by swiping up or down, the volume can be raised or lowered, respectively. One last action I would like to mention is when on a phone call, is by swiping to the left or right, the call can be ended or answered, respectively. I did find these controls helpful and did not find it easy to accidentally do any of these actions. Lastly, I also liked how Sennheiser incorporated for audio to be paused when the headphones are removed (setting can be changed from the Smart Control app if preferred otherwise).Sennheiser also has an app called Sennheiser Smart Control that can be downloaded from the Android or Apple app stores. This app allows you to control audio equalizer settings, update the firmware of the headset, a Sound Zones feature, Active Noise Cancellation settings, and a Sidetone feature (for adjusting how natural your voice sounds during a call). Right off the bat after opening the headset, there was an update that needed to be performed and the only downside to this was I found the update take over 40 minutes to install (Sennheiser did state before the update it could take up to an hour to complete). In the app, a cool feature I noticed was how you can set "sound zones". This lets you customize audio equalizer settings depending on your location. When you step into your "sound zone", your audio will automatically adjust to the setting you set in the app.Other than the amount of time it took to update the headphones the first time, the only other downside I found was in the new design Sennheiser incorporated in the headphones. The earcups are not able to fold in nor the headband and become more compact for storage as compared to the Momentum's previous iteration. They are only able to be stored in their U shaped position.Overall, the Momentum 4 sounds amazing and made me fall back in love with over-ear headphones. They sound great, are comfortable, and have new useful features that allow for control of audio and calls without having to touch your other device. I recommend them to anyone looking for quality headphones that will last them for years to come.

Incredible Sound…with a MAJOR (but fixed) problem
23 September 2022

INITIAL THOUGHTS & SETUP:The packaging is about the most environmentally-friendly packaging I’ve ever seen. You have a package box sealed with two pieces of plastic-based “sealing discs” (this plastic is difficult to avoid, as almost all seals are still made using plastic)…and, upon removing the seals, all I found inside was the headphone case, with everything (headphones, accessories, QuickStart, etc) inside the case. Needless to say, when it comes to packaging, I’ve never been happier. As for setup, anyone who’s ever paired a Bluetooth device won’t have any problems. Bluetooth has, essentially, become “plug & play” at this point. At this point in time, if you can’t figure out how to pair a Bluetooth device, maybe you shouldn’t have a Bluetooth device. I say that, ... MoreINITIAL THOUGHTS & SETUP:The packaging is about the most environmentally-friendly packaging I’ve ever seen. I say that, not to be ‘negative’, but to reenforce how incredibly-simple it is to pair Bluetooth devices.SOUND QUALITY:I’ve had a lot…and, I DO mean a LOT…of headphones in my lifetime – those that are plugged in (standard, as well as mini, jack), and Bluetooth. When Bluetooth headphones (by ‘headphones, I mean, literally, the type that have a band crossing over the trop of your head, NOT the type that have the “speakers” sitting inside your ear) first started coming out, audiophiles said they would never rival the sound quality of traditional plug-in headphones…and, at that time, I probably would have agreed, as the sound-quality was mediocre at best. That was approx 20 years ago…and, a LOT has changed in that time. Today, there are multiple ‘quality’ levels of headphones (and earbuds)…some (ie. the cheapest ones) are still mediocre, while others (yup, the expensive ones) that DO rival the sound-quality of plug-in headphones. And, yes, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless Headphones IS one of them. Honestly, I’m not sure where, exactly, to ‘place’ them in the tier of things. Are they a top-of-the-line mid-range headset…or, are they a bottom-of-the-line high-end headset? The price point they’ve been placed in positions them “on the fence” between these two tiers. Whichever way you decide to look at it, the sound quality is absolutely amazing. For the past few years, my ‘best’ wireless headset has been from another brand also starting with the letter ‘S’ (and having 4 letters in its name)…and, I’ve always thought they sounded incredibly good. The sound quality was great (I’d have given them a 7-8 out of 10 (especially if a ‘10’ would have been what would have been expected from an equally-priced plug-in headset)), and the noise-cancellation was well-above par (I’d give the noise-cancellation an 8 out of 10).Moving over to the new Momentum 4 headphones, I’d say they EASILY deserve an 8…and, possibly, a 9…out of 10. Simply put, they sound MUCH better than that ‘S’-brand pair of headphones. Taking things one step further (ie. something you CAN’T do with that other headphone), Sennheiser has an app called “Smart Control” that not only allows users to customize the sound through equalization, and “sound modes”…but, even better, allows you to completely tailor the sound to your particular liking by asking you, multiple times, to select (between three choices) “which sounds better”. Through this process, the app ‘programs’ the headphones to your preferred “tonality”…and, it stays there, even when not using the app.ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS:So, you’d think all is 100% good with these headphones…and, unfortunately, you’d be wrong. Out of the box, the noise Cancelation didn’t work AT ALL. Between “transparent” and full “ANC”, there are 6 levels…and, even at full “ANC”, outside sounds could still easily be hears. Even after installing the first ‘Firmware Update’, the noise cancelation still didn’t work. Talk about a HUGE “disappointment”…ESPECIALLY for headphones costing as much as these do. Speaking of firmware updates, yes, the Momentum 4 headphones WILL (from time-to-time) have firmware updates…although, how frequently, I cannot say. As I type this review (approx two weeks after receiving the Momentum 4 headphones), the headphones are going through a second firmware update. As soon as the update is complete, I will test the noise cancelation again, and type the results below. In the meantime, while I wait, let me mention something about the installation process of the firmware updates. Unlike many other devices, you CAN use the Momentum 4 headphones during the install process (except, for what should be obvious reasons, when the firmware update is finalizing, as it has to ‘reboot’ the headphones)…but, in doing so, take note that this DOES slow down the update process. The update process “claims” the update will take ’21 minutes’. When I installed the first update, I was simultaneously using the headphones (while watching an episode of Marvel’s “Defender” series), and that ’21 minute’ process actually took almost 45 minutes. As for how long it takes when the headphones are not actually being used, that took (pausing typing until update is complete)POST (2nd) FIRMWARE UPDATE: first, with the headphones not being used, that ‘21minute’ update actually took about 15-16 minutes…or, essentially, half the amount of time it took when the headphones were being used. Second, I can confirm that, with the second firmware update installed, the noise cancelation IS working…and, it’s fantastic. I have the washing machine going, and, with it on full “ANC”, hearing the washing machine is almost impossible…exactly the way it should be. Even in “tapping” a cardboard box only a foot away, I can barely hear it. I don’t know if the noise cancelation was finally “activated” through this most recent update, or if there was some sort of ‘glitch’ in my headphones, which was ‘corrected’ by the latest update…but, whatever the case might be, I don’t care. As long as it’s now working, that’s all I care about.CONCLUSION:I’ll admit, I was initially going to only give the Momentum 4 headphones a 4-star rating. While the sound was incredible, and the battery life was excellent, the fact that the noise cancelation wasn’t working was not only a disappointment, but also lessened my overall opinion of the headphones. However, now that the noise cancelation works, I can ‘return’ that fifth star. I don’t think I need to state, in my review, whether, or not, I would ‘recommend’ the Momentum 4 headphones…and answer SHOULD be obvious.Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

Sennheiser Brings the Adaptive Sound and Comfort
9 September 2022

Sennheiser has done it again; they’ve improved upon their noise cancelling wireless headphones with a new look and Adaptive Noise Cancelling technology in their MOMENTUM 4 Wireless over-the-ear headphones. The MOMENTUM 4 are the newly released version from Sennheiser and they have added even more user-friendly features than the previous versions while improving on their noise canceling technology. What’s in the box - The headphones ship with a great zippered carrying case, a USB-C charging cable, a 3.5mm audio cable for wired connection, airplane 2.5mm cable adapter and instructions/paperwork. The headphones fold flat to fit in the case which is a good size for traveling. They fit perfectly in the outside pocket of my backpack used for work and travel. The earphones were fully charged out of the box, so all that’s needed to get started (optional really, as they headphones will connect to your Bluetooth device anyway) is download the Sennheiser Smart Control app and customize the earphones. Some of the features are active at download but you need to create an account to access all the app features. There was a firmware update available for the headphones and it updated once they were connected. This took about 30 minutes.Smart Control App - it's a great tool for taking advantage of the many available settings these headphones provide like Connection Management, Equalizer, Sound Check, Sound Zones, Active Noise Cancelation, Adaptive NC Setting and Sidetone for phone calls. Connection Manager does exactly that as it lists your BT devices for connecting. One of the advanced features of these headphones is they can connect to 2 devices simultaneously. The Equalizer provides a handful of presets and can also be customized to the user’s preferences in Bass, Midrange and Treble. There’s also Bass Boost and Podcast sound modes to select. Sound Check lets the user selected from different sound options to create additional Equalizer presets. With Sound Zones the headphones can be set up to use specific sounds settings based on your location. The Active Noise Canceling setting can be set between ANC and Transparency based on user preference or can be set to Adaptive which will automatically switch the NC depending on surroundings and level of noise. Sidetone changes the sound of phone calls. My headphones came set to 50% and calls sound amazing!Fit and Function - The first thing I noticed when putting on the headphones was the plush feel of the ear pads and the headband. The cushy memory foam on the earcups allows for hours of use with no hot spots. The headband is not quite as plush as the earcup, but again, no hot spots or discomfort after hours of use. Adjustment of the earcups is easy with the slide bar to lengthen and the earcups rotate for a perfect fit. The build quality is exceptional, I expect these headphones to last for years to come. Cloth accents on the headband is also a nice touch. The headphones can be managed through the Smart Control app or with hand gestures on the right earcup. The single power/BT button is also located on the right earcup. Press and hold it for 3 seconds and you’re ready to listen to your favorite music or take a phone call. Pause/Play, Volume and phone calls can all be managed with finger gestures. It takes a couple tries to get them dialed in, but what a great feature. Music is paused when the earphones are removed and restarts automatically when put back on.Sound Quality - The sound quality is top-notch right out of the box, but the Smart Control app gives the user the ability to customize settings based on their preference. I did create my own Equalizer pre-sets and added the Bass Boost and wow, just wow! Quality sound as expected from Sennheiser! I messed around with the Adaptive NC setting and other features and found I liked setting the NC level to full ANC. That would be one area I felt these earphones fell a bit short compared to similar earphones. Noise Canceling was good, but not great. I use headphones when mowing the lawn and the MOMENTUM 4 just couldn’t block out the all of the mower noise.Phone Calls – This is an area the MOMENTUM 4 really shines. As mentioned earlier the Sidetone feature was preset at 50% and everyone I talked to said it sounded like I was right next to them. On the headphone side, sound was clear and very rich, not crackly like some headphones can sound. Top-notch in this category!Battery Life – I fully charged them upon receipt and after multiple days of use, they are still at 80%...this absolutely crushes the battery performance of my other NC headphones. And on top of that, there’s a quick charge feature as well. Worrying about battery life is completely off the table based on my experience to date.Pros:- Build and Sound Quality is Top-Notch- Ease & amount of sound customization and functions with the Smart Control app- Earcup Touch Controls - control your music, pause or call without ever touching your phone- Fit and comfort is outstanding, no discomfort even after hours of use- Taking Phone Calls – Best phone sound I’ve ever experienced, even in a crowded office- Battery life is exceptional- Great Carry Case for traveling and storage- Automatic On/Off featureCons:- Noise Canceling has a little room for improvement…but sound quality makes up for thisThe Sennheiser MOMETNUM 4 Wireless Noise Canceling Over-the-Ear Headphones are one of my new favorite devices and would 100% recommend them to anyone looking for great noise canceling, comfortable & stylish and function-packed headphones.

Gone is the metal and exaggerated features for a more modern and what I assume a more widely appealing look, however the headphones now mostly blend in a sea of similarly designed headphones. While I won’t call it a “con” of these headphones, it’s okay to be different. That being said even with the additional plastic in this progression of the Momentum line, these are still obviously premium headphones. The ear cups are clean and smooth to give ample space for the new touch controls. This smoothness is contrasted with a graphite-colored cloth along the outside of the headband which has a obviously dialed in head clamping force, something that Sennheiser has perfected over the years. The foam along the inside of the headband is firm but supportive, while the ear cups is soft and comfortable allowing these headphones to be worn for hours on end.CONTROLS + PORTSMost of the controls as I mentioned are now touch on the right ear cup with the exception of a power button. A tap will play/pause, swipe forward/back to skip/restart. The Momentum 4s have an adaptive ANC which adjusts to the environment around you, but if you have this disabled you can adjust how much of your surrounding environment is blocked out by “pinching” or “zooming” on the touch controls. Additionally, with a quick double tap you can switch between maximum noise cancelation and full transparency mode if you are wanting to have a conversation with a person without having to raise your voice. One issue that I did have was with the head detection feature which utilizes "wear" sensor to detect when the cups are over your ears to automatically play/pause audio. The audio sometimes un-pauses with the headphones around my neck, which can be annoying in the middle of a conversation. I believe this is due to the clamp force causing the ear cups to touch which it then interprets as being on your head. This is definitely not a deal breaker so for now I have disabled this feature and I just play and pause manually. Sennheiser has been issuing new firmware updates so I'll be checking back to see if this gets fixed.APPThe application is your place to tweak and enhance your Momentum 4 experience and there is quite a bit to unpack. The obvious inclusions are the equalizer and connectivity settings when you can manage up to two simultaneously connected devices. Sennheiser even provides a “Sound Check” feature giving you a guided method to select from different samples which sounds the best and then produce its recommendation of what equalizer settings you should use.In addition to the touch controls to select the level of noise cancelation you can adjust this through the application as well. And if you want to have certain settings in certain geographic areas, Sennheiser has you covered there too. By creating a Sound Zone you can adjust ANC and equalizer settings when entering and leaving a location automating how your headphones work when driving or traveling from your home to your office in the mornings and afternoons. Finally, Sidetone allows a mic monitoring like feature which passes your voice through the mic to the headphones when on a phone call, this is especially helpful to avoid something that I’m often guilty of, which is talking on the phone loudly when my headphones are on and the ANC is turned all the way up.SOUNDAnd how do the headphones sound? In my opinion these headphones default setting is extremely well balanced to begin with, but I finally settled on -2,-2,+2 as my EQ settings. I listen to a mix of genres from Pop, Country, Rock, and Hip-Hop and thought the Momentum 4s provided adequate thumping bass, dynamic mids and crystal clear highs for a highly immersive audio listening experience. And on the other end the microphones sound great too! I work in an environment (data center) that has loud but pretty consistent sound and the noise canceling microphones are able to nearly eliminate the noise for the people on the side of the line to hear me clearly as well as block out the noise so that I could enjoy my music and not the buzz of computers and fans around me. Is the ANC perfect? No, it's very close to being on par with other brands and does a great job for 95% of peoples' day-to-day lives. Finally, the last great thing about the Momentum 4s is the stellar battery life that lasts over 2 days (60 hours total) and blows many other competitors out of the water. I must emphasize that the battery life is with ANC enabled, so you get a great experience the entire time you're using the headphones without compromising. I’m usually one that forgets to charge their headphones, so this is a game changer for me as I can go a week sometimes on a single charge now.SUMMARYOverall the Momentum 4's while featuring a more typical design differentiate themselves in usual Sennheiser fashion with stellar sound and battery life, while introducing new intuitive touch controls and app features. Toping that off with a great pair of microphones for phone calls and an improved ANC experience, the Momentum 4s are definitely worth your consideration if you are familiar or even new to the brand.

Superior Sound with Massive Battery Life

As someone who finally made the switch to the Sony XM5s from the Bose 700s Sennheiser has now went and made this decision even more difficult! It has been a couple years since Sennheiser had released a new pair of headphones, but the upgrades they have made from the Momentum 3 are greatly noticed and have them right on par with competitors from Sony and Bose at a lower price point none the less.Firstly, I will say right out of the box I appreciated the design aesthetic as it was similar to competitors, but I liked the fabric on the headband is it makes them standout. The comfort is also exactly what you could ask for as I did not have any issues with extended periods of listening. The touch controls on the ear cup worked flawlessly and I have grown to like the touch controls as opposed to all the buttons as once you get the hang of the touch controls it is extremely convenient.Moving onto the sound though this is where Sennheiser really blew me away. You constantly hear how Sony and Bose are superior, but I really think Sennheiser has outdueled them when it comes to actual sound quality in a normal environment here. I went back and forth between all three and played with the EQ on the app and actually find myself coming back to these now. I could try to explain it to you, but it is difficult to describe it as it is such a three dimensional sound that pushes through in how detailed and crisp it is. However, when it comes to the active noise cancellation it worked great when compared to nearly any other over the ear headphones though it didn`t quite match that of Bose and Sony in louder environments when I was out and about. These headphones have some great features that I do want to touch on though. Firstly, the app (yes I know everyone has one now) works flawlessly and isn`t as complex as some of the others, but puts some key elements in focus and even allows you to hide various sections you don`t wish to see. It allows you to adjust the EQ and even has a sound check feature which is nice to try, adjust your active noise cancelation and transparency, and also control how much of your voice you hear on calls. There are a variety of things available with the app, but one that I really liked was the Sound Zones as this section allows you to create custom noise cancellation and EQ settings for specific locations (like your home, gym, or office) when you enter those zones using geo location. The other key features are the auto play/pause when putting on and removing the headphones and also the ability to connect to multiple devices. The final thing I have to mention that really stood out to me was the 60 hour battery life and fast charging as this just blew me away as it is nearly double that of its competitors!Overall, you can`t go wrong with these headphones! The superior sound quality, noise cancelation, battery life, and app features really set it apart. Really when it comes to comparisons to Sony and Bose everyone is going to have their preferences, but for me I appreciate aesthetics, sound quality, and battery life to which these headphones are superior in my opinion. The noise cancellation may not be quite as strong as Bose and Sony, but I am not regularly in louder environments and even then the difference is nominal so for $50 less than its competitors I think this pair of headphones is my new go to recommendation for over-ear headphones.

Superior sound and ANC to Bose QC

I've had Bose noise cancelling headphones for several years and have always really liked their sound except I and many others would say Bose lacks bass quality. Keep in mind I don't really like super strong thumping bass but seek a rich fullness and balance in sound. I have a pair of wired HD560 Senheiser headphones and decided to give this wireless model a try for my trip to Europe. What a difference these have made! The sound quality is absolutely amazing with full quality that matches what i was expecting from Senheiser. Normally, i feel like Bluetooth doesn't capture the same quality as a good set of wired headphones do, but these have been terrific. I was also really pleased to find that the noise cancelling was even better than my Bose, I could barely hear anything around me on the plane which made the 8 hour flight fly by. I'm happy that these have less of the ear-popping feeling you get from noise cancelling technology.Additionally, these have amazing battery. I charged then before flew to Europe, listened on the plane, on several trains, and back home and the battery was still over 50% from the initial charge. I also really like the smart controls, they are easy to use and intuitive, they even pause automatically when you lift one ear cup off your head which is nice when you want to hear a flight announcement or something. They do have a passive noise cancelling mode but you can't really hear people talking to you in that mode so the lift to pause is a nice feature. They come with a great carrying case that you don't have to worry about them getting crushed in your bag or anything.Overall, I love these headphones and an officially converted to a Senheiser fan after many years of loving Bose. Give them a try, they are worth the price even without being on sale.

Top Tier ANC Headphone w/ Ridiculous Battery Life!
16 September 2022

I have always been a fan of Sennheiser. Most of the high-end audiophile quality headphones I have ever owned have been Senns. I still have my HD650s and I used to have a pair of HD800s back in the day (and I sold them for almost what I bought them for)! I appreciate that Sennheiser makes outstanding headphones that tend to be very grounded and neutral as their baseline. Usually any deviation from that pure neutral sound has been through the design of the earcups and whether or not they are open or closed back. That being said, I HATED the Momentums when they first came out years ago. While I thought they looked OK, I actually didn't like the knob and open frame on the sides. While I thought they looked OK, I actually didn't like the knob and open frame on the sides. Back then, I still had some hair on the sides of my head and I would actually get it caught sometimes in the frame and get pulled out! I didn't need any more help ridding myself of hair on my head.Back then they weren't ANC headphones and there were so many other offerings from Senn, that I didn't bother with a pair. When ANC headphones started being made by a lot more than just one or two manufacturers, I already had a pair that I really liked and I stayed with them from the XM1 version through the XM3. My headphones are starting to die (the problem with all closed system batteries), but I got a heck of a lot of use out of them. Either way, I wanted to see now what Sennheiser had come up with now that they have noise cancelling AND got rid of the design I didn't like (even though my hair is now shaved off).I really dig these new Momentum 4s and I'll go through a few of the feature sets to let you know what I think.Styling/build: While perhaps more plain and not being able to fold up into quite as small of a case, I prefer this styling far and away over the earlier models. The fabric covering to the headband is nice, the armatures are solid, and the padding is top notch, especially for a guy who has lost his natural padding on the top of his head. The only thing that kind of throws me off is the depth of the earcups, they are thick. I'm sure that is to allow more room for the battery, and if that is indeed the case, I am completely cool with it.Controls: My previous ANC headphones also used touch gestures but they could be pretty wonky at times. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to just raise or lower the volume, and instead ended up changing the track. The touch controls have been much better on the Momentum 4s. I have yet to accidentally make a change I wasn't looking to make.Software: I am rarely impressed by the app that many electronic devices have, especially headphones, but I have to hand it to Sennheiser, they did a really nice job with theirs. Incredibly easy to make changes but what really stands out is their Sound Check mode that lets you adjust the sound signature more naturally than just fiddling with sliders. It is almost like going to the optometrist with the better/worse kind of testing. The App offers you several sets of three different sound-scapes (while you are listening to the song) and you pick the one you like best. When you are done it sets up the equalizer and you can save it as a profile. Easy-peasy. Now some of the choices don't seem too different from each other (also kind of like the optometrist) but it's there if you really listen.Another software item that is both nice/annoying is the firmware update. I've had these Momentum 4s since they came out a week ago and I already have had two firmware updates. While it is cool that Senn is feeding these updates to make the headphones better, they kinda stink in that the update process take anywhere from 25-30 minutes! Not sure why it takes that long, but hey, as long as they are making my headphones all the better, I'm really not going to complain.Accessories: The hardcase is nice but the cables are just 'meh'. I would like to see an audio cable with a little bit better strain relief and thickness. If you were going to use these plugged in, I don't know how long that cable will last. The charging cable is good, but nothing to write home about. Supposedly you can use a USB-C to C cable (not included) to do audio from things like iPads but I did not test this out.Comfort: Both the headband and earcups have a really nice padding on them. I would have liked perhaps a little more on the headband, especially since the headphones don't need to be able to fold up. It's fine now, but I anticipate the headband padding compressing a bit over time which will impact how long I can listen without breaks.Sound: What really matters and I have ZERO complaints in the sound department on the Momentum 4s. They have the neutral soundstage that I prefer and all of the music genres I listen to (which is most of them with perhaps the exception of Bluegrass), sounds on point. There is also no eardrum 'pressure' from the active noise canceling. A lot of times I also just use ANC headphones to just give me a quiet room when stuff is going on in the house or in the neighborhood. The Momentum 4s have an outstanding level of passive noise cancelation just from the padding and fit, but having ANC on REALLY does a nice job of giving me some peace and quiet so I can read (or take a nap in my chair). The ANC is just as good as any other of the top players and I was not able to even detect some of the hiss that you sometimes can hear with noise cancelling.Phone Calls: I don't call people much nowadays but I do make a weekly call to my parents. I always wear earbuds/headphones when doing this because my dad tends to ramble and sometimes I surf the web while he is talking (and can't really hold a phone). I normally wear my earbuds from a certain fruit company everyone knows, and my parents never commented on the voice quality but when I called them a couple days ago using the Momentums, they actually asked what I was doing different because I sounded so much clearer to them. So now the Momentums are going to be my headphone of choice for doing calls from now on!Battery Life: Almost silly the amount of battery life in these things! I have been using them for music listening several hours a day for almost an entire week with ANC on, did a 40 minute call with my parents, and used them for about four hours just as a 'quiet zone' while reading. The battery life is still showing 80%. I think I could probably charge these up for a weeklong vacation somewhere and not have to charge them again until I got back home! That would be with the flight and the sitting by the pool/beach all day! Whatever Sennheiser did to maximize battery life worked like a charm, and despite this battery life they don't feel any heavier than other ANC headphones with HALF the battery life!Bottom Line: The Momentum 4s are a phenomenal set of Active Noise Cancelling headphones, completely on par with the other top ANC headsets. Everything combined together makes them, in my opinion, the best of the current crop of ANC headsets. I don't see how anyone can be disappointed in these cans.
