my main idea is “ momentum 4 is my favorite type under this price level, but the quality was terrible. ”For my opinion, comparing to xm5, momentum 4 have better outlooking, better sound quality , better tone prompts , better comfort (although they both not comfortable), and super good at battery.however its noise cancellation and sound personalization were worse than Sony and I think the quality control of momentum 4 was less than satisfactory.I felt the noise cancellation of momentum 4 is even worse than pxc550 second in house (but better than pxc550 2nd out door, don’t know why), and less comfortable than pxc550 second. The head detection was lovely, but not always work, sometimes fail for no reason.Auto adaptive noise cancellation was not working well ... Moremy main idea is “ momentum 4 is my favorite type under this price level, but the quality was terrible. The head detection was lovely, but not always work, sometimes fail for no reason.Auto adaptive noise cancellation was not working well outdoors, silent and noise take turns.I bought from pb tech queen street, it worked well at the beginning but after a week, there’s something wrong with the left cup, as long as I turn it on, there would be constant popping and hissing noises in the left cup although I didn’t play any music. It was very loud and not useable, I tried all the ways I can think of, including reconnect, close the noise cancellation , turn off the head detection etc, noise still very loud, so I went for the warranty and they changed me a new one.the noise cancellation of the changed new one was worse than the one at the beginning, the noise cancellation of the first one was fine (but worse than xm5, it did block the environmental noise, but the noise cancellation also produced new noise when programming, although that wasn’t loud ), the noise cancellation of the changed one was not good, still can hear noise clearly under noise cancellation. I think their quality control wasn’t good, or I’m too bad luck.Three days after I went for warranty, the right cup of my changed new one have noise as well, same condition with the first one, but lighter. This time more hissing noise, and occasionally popping noise, by the same time, I can not connect to Sennheiser Smart Control, this got solved until I deleted momentum 4 from my phone and paired again. I tried everything in the settings and the sennheriser control app, however the hissing noise still exists. This time the hissing noise was not loud: if I listening to something with high volume, then I can’t hear that hissing noise from inside the right earbud, but, if I turn the music off, or I listen without high volume (either moderate or low volume) I can hear that hissing noise. Different from last time, this time it was not constant, it was “seasonal” or “regularly intermittent”. But still very annoyed.I will continue “observe” for a few days see if I can accept this slight noise. If this noise became loud in the next few days, or I find I can’t tolerate this noise, I will go for warranty again. If the noise became in-tolerable and after I went for second time warranty the third one got the same story such only working well for the first few days, I would definitely return and change to other brandsI bought a momentum 4, it turned bad. I went for warranty and got a new one, and it turned again, and all of them happened within TEN days!It made me feel so unhappy and started suspecting the quality of momentum 4.I hope I was just pure bad luck. Because I really think it was the best fit one overall.:(

A Fantastic set of headphones

Here are my 2 cents on the headphones. The battery life is insane, the advertised 60hours at mid-volume is pretty close to what I've gotten. Other than the initial charge to full, I only needed to charge them once last night. Probably the best aspect of these headphones is never having to charge them which seems kinda weird, but being double the battery life of XM5s or QC's its pretty notable. The audio quality is great. I'm not an audiophile but they sound great (what you'd expect from Sennheiser) with punchy bass and crispy highs. if the audio profile doesn't suit you the Sennheiser app provides an EQ to help you tune the audio to your taste. The ... MoreI purchased a pair of these headphones almost week ago and haven't taken them off my head other than to sleep. I'm not an audiophile but they sound great (what you'd expect from Sennheiser) with punchy bass and crispy highs. if the audio profile doesn't suit you the Sennheiser app provides an EQ to help you tune the audio to your taste. The active noise cancellation (ANC) and transparency modes work well but lag behind some of the competitors in the space (eg the sony xm5s). The ANC still works well and honestly if you aren't directly comparing them next to other headphones you won't even notice. The build quality is magnificent. The padding and headband are comfortable, and overall makes wearing them for long periods of time very easy. So people say that the weight is kinda heavy but i like the weight as the heft makes them feel a bit more durable. The touch controls work well and let you control most of the features straight from the right ear cup. The smart pause feature will pause your audio when you take off the headphones or remove the right earcup but doesn't pause the audio when you remove the left earcup for whatever reason, which is weird not to include, but if I don't want my music to pause as I talk to somebody I just remove the left earcup. I guess I could justify it as unintentionally providing flexibility in using the headphones. The app that Sennheiser offers as a companion with the headphones, which lets you tune the EQ, create sound zones, and change side tones works well. with that being said I have noticed that the headphones don't automatically connect to the app when i open it up (even if they are connected to my phone) and will take a second to connect. there has been a couple of occasions where the app just can't connect to my momentum 4s at all, and I've gotta turn off my headphones to reconnect them to the app which can be a bit annoying. also updating the firmware on the headphones take a while so do it at night if you plan on doing it. Even with all that being said the app can be fixed and doesn't really diminish the experience.Overall these are great headphones. If you don't mind not having the best in class ANC (but still good) and a mildly buggy app these headphones are fantastic. The battery life and audio quality alone are reasons enough for me to suggest the headphones.

To provide some context, I'm sharing my perspective as someone who has owned a few other popular earbuds/headphones over the years, such as the more recent Apple AirPods Max and the Sony WF-1000XM4. I'm not an audiophile but I do consider myself as someone who values great sound and understands what to look for in a pair of headphones. The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless are a great sounding pair of headphones for pretty much every genre of music, and would be my top recommendation for over-the-ear headphones within the price range of $400 - $800 for several reasons (this range includes the Sony WH-1000XM5, the Bose NC700, the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2, and the aforementioned AirPods Max).First, comfort. The MOMENTUM 4 Wireless are very comfortable, and I say that as someone who wears glasses. They feel light (much lighter than the AirPods Max, I believe the Sony WH-1000 XM5 were a bit lighter when I compared them side-by-side); the ear pads are soft with sufficient amount of space for the ears (the ear pads on the Bose NC700 felt small); they are secure even though I don't feel the clamping force at all (whereas the clamping force from the AirPods Max makes them feel tight and uncomfortable for longer listening sessions).Second, sound. Like mentioned earlier, the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless excel in just about any genre of music that I listen to, which range from pop to reggaeton to classical to hip-hop. The 42mm dynamic drivers do a lot of work here and give them a soundstage that would be missing in some of their competitors (for comparison, the Sony WH-1000 XM5 only have 30mm drivers, down from the 40mm drivers of the XM4; 40mm drivers for both the AirPods Max and the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2). Here are a few examples of how they perform on very different tracks: Billie Eilish's vocals on a track like "i love you" stay clear without being overpowered by or overpowering the accompanying guitar, allowing you to truly feel the emotions of her voice/the lyrics; the treble of the strings on a track like "The Middle of the World" by Nicholas Britell come alive and are impactful without sounding jarring/harsh as the notes build and hit their crescendo; the bass and sub-bass on a track like Bad Bunny's "Titi Me Pregunto" SHINE and bring you to the street dance parties in Puerto Rico. They sound great without any EQ-ing, and can sound even better once you find the ideal EQ settings based on your own preferences by using the app.Third, design and build quality. The MOMENTUM 4 Wireless feel well-built, they don't feel cheap even though most of the material is plastic (despite also using mostly plastic, the Sony WH-1000 XM5 felt cheap to me in comparison, and the Bose NC700 felt even worse), this is partly due to the headband, which has this fabric-like material covering the top and the metallic-looking logos on both sides. Looks/design can be subjective, so while I appreciate the relative low profile of the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless myself (I say "relative" here because it's just difficult for a pair of over-the-ear headphones to be low profile, as opposed to the smaller on-ear headphones and of course, in-ear earbuds), I understand that there are those who prefer a pair of headphones that stand out more, whether in terms of colour (e.g., the Beats Studio 3 Wireless and the many colour combinations that they come in) or material (e.g., the AirPods Max due to their use of metal). Finally, the 60-hour battery life AND a power button. Headphones in this price range typically last 20-30 hours, and the less frequently you need to recharge your headphones (aka, go through an entire battery charge cycle), the longer their shelf-life. There is no comparison between the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless and their competitors in terms of battery life, and this is made better by the fact that they have a power button, e.g., due to the lack of a power button, my AirPods Max's battery would drain itself over two weeks in their case even if I don't use them at all over that period, but my MOMENTUM 4 Wireless' battery would only go from 85% to 80% over the same duration even if I leave them on in low-power mode.I won't write much about their ANC because it wasn't one of my priorities. Don't get me wrong, their ANC is still perfectly fine in my experience but if ANC is what you care about the most (e.g., you regularly take public transit, you are a frequent flier, you work in a constantly noisy environment, etc.), you will get better ANC with a pair of headphones like the Sony WH-1000 XM5 or the AirPods Max.TL;DR: the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless offers arguably the best value among headphones in the $400-$800 price range and you should get them if you value fantastic sound, comfort and battery life. Consider looking elsewhere if ANC is what you care about the most or if you need a pair of headphones that pop visually.

Best sounding wireless headphone in years
15 July 2023

This review is written from the perspective of a studio and live sound engineer.I love these headphones so much. These are the best pair of headphones I've personally had since the Skullcandy Crusher Wireless. I know it's a stretch to compare these two headphones but hear me out. Back in 2018 when I bought my Crushers, it was one of the only set that had everything that I wanted: A relaxed sound, a realitvly rasied sub-bass level without raising the bass or lower mids, and a long battery life that would truly allow me to charge it 1 time a week. These headphones for me did that. Another thing that was a plus for me was physical controls in a simple interface (which is one of my gripes with the Sennheisers). These headphones for me did that. Another thing that was a plus for me was physical controls in a simple interface (which is one of my gripes with the Sennheisers). To get to the Sennheiser, there are many things that have an elevated evolution of those headphones with some benefits for me. These headphones have a more extended but still maintain the smooth and relaxed sound that I can to love about the crushers. The next thing that I love about the bass of these headphones is amazing. This is the first recent headphone that I have found that I like. Many headphones today don't have enough sub-bass and just have a lot of bass that muddy's up everything and almost forces me to go for a more extreme V curve to reclaim the detail and scale that I want. The ability for these headphones to go down to 19Hz (from my ears' capability) is something that I haven't heard from others. Songs like Positions by Ariana Grande and Jill by Trey Songs; these are both songs that approach the 20Hz mark strongly and this headphone lets you hear without destroying the rest of your sound. In my opinion, you won't find headphones that make music sound this good with a battery and wireless. Being a headphone from a company that makes some of the most popular wired headphones, they didn't forget about that one either. These headphones act just like any wired headphone when you use the 2.5-3.5mm cable. I use them as my monitoring headphones, cue headphones, and mix-checking headphones, whenever I am working, they are that good. Now on the topic of controls, most of the controls are easy to use, they are touch controls which usually don't have false touches when adjusting them. The usual commands that I use with the headphones are the same that I would use with the classic three-button interface, with the addition of controls for noise control. When they work they work 99% of the time, there are a few times when it doesn't connect correctly to my device and the controls don't work, but I experienced the same thing with my AirPod Pros Gen 1, so it wasn't a deal breaker (but can be annoying). The noise-canceling is pretty good on these, they do a good job of canceling a fair bit of all noise around you, I will say it does have that airplane effect on my ears personally. I know some others have had different experiences, but that's something I felt. At the same time, I always have that feeling with any headphones with active noise canceling, so I don't count that against the headphones at all. The sound transparency is pretty okay, it does feel like there is a -6dB plug in my ear all the time. It doesn't quite get sounds to the same volume but placement and character are always accurate to the source, which is more important to me.To sum it all up, if you are looking for an amazing-sounding headphone, with amazing battery life, with pretty good noise-canceling, and want to try something outside of Bose, Sony, Beats, or JBL, I don't think you will be disappointed at all.

By far the best wireless ANC headphones I've used!
1 July 2023

To begin, these headphones automatically turn on and pair with your headphones upon wearing them which is amazing. No headphones i have ever used have done this. The vocals are sound are crystal clear and the bass is not too hectic like the Skullcandy's i purchased. I absolutely love the length of the 60 hour battery life. I can go without charging for over a week even though I use them all day long. The ANC is great for blocking out noise though I feel it could be blocking out even more noise than it does.I feel some negatives of using these headphones is the muff quality, packaging quality and how even though i turn off the headphones they automatically turn back on and pair with the nearest paired device so i have to disable bluetooth for them to turn off. The muff are bent and creased within not even a few days of using them and the packaging was a bit too standard for my liking. The box was dusty and not manufacturer sealed and the headphone case was just dumped straight into the box as you open it which I thought was a bit poor unlike Skullcandy and Beats.I trusted the Sennheiser brand as I have previously purchased a pair of their headphones years ago and they were really good. The man at the store recommended Bose, as they are industry leading for electronic music. I chose Sennheiser momentum wireless 4 instead as I have a big preference for a much higher sound quality. Not that Bose are bad, I just wanted to spend the extra $100 for satisfaction and I must say, I am very happy with my decision.

They cost less than the Sony WH-1000XM5 (both are often compared in terme of quality) and the refurbished Momentum 4 offer some prices that are way more affordable than Sony.Ease of use: The headphone works great with the basic fonctions and the app give a lot of additionnal control on the setting to customise the headphone. However, the tactile controls are not always working and it is easy to touch it without wanting to. The app is also slow when opening it, but it works great once it is open. Apart from this, they are easy to use and the fonctionnality to pair simultaneously on two devices which is very nice when switching from phone to laptop. In the end, they are more complicated to learn and setup if you want some specific settings but they are way more customisable than other headphone and they only needed to be setup one time.Service: The first pair of headphone stopped working so i had to return them. The customer service went out of their way to resolved the problem and they were very kind. The service was really fast for customer service because they always responded on the same day even during the weekend.

Great Comfort, Great Sound, Decent ANC

The unit I received with my initial purchase of these headphones had issues. If your headphones sound like they are not working evenly between the ears and turning the ANC on affects 1 ear more than the other, you need to return your unit as this is a flaw and not a feature. I exchanged my faulty unit and received a properly working unit which has been operating properly since Fall 2022.My experience with my good unit has been enjoyable. I also own a pair of Sony WH-1000XM4's. While the Sony unit has better active noise canceling, the sound and fit of the Sennheiser Momentum 4's are far superior. Sony headphones have always had a narrow sound stage for me with a sound signature like I have a couple of tin cans strapped to my ears. If all you listen to are Sony headphones you'll never hear the difference, but when I put on my Sennhesier headphones, the level of comfort and clarity of sound was a drastic improvement. Music is much more enjoyable and I can wear these headphones for hours at a time without ear fatigue despite my massive dumbo ears. And the battery! I can use these headphones for almost a full week everyday for 8ish hours and still have charge left over. Whatever Sennhesier has done to accomplish this has set a new standard for what you should expect from a top level set of ANC headphones.Overall I would say they are a good set of headphones to own, and an even better deal if you're able to get them on sale. Look for a deal and it will be well worth your money.

Great sound, but inconsistent smart features

Firstly: if I was reviewing Richer Sounds, it would be a five star review, with a particular shout out to Thomasz and Hauke at the Edinburgh store for some amazing customer service. But this is a review of the headphones, which is a bit more mixed. On the positive side:The sound quality is great – pretty neutral sounding rather than artificially boosted, and clear and detailed. I can happily listen to music and podcasts all day long on these cans. And colleagues in video calls have commented my voice sounds nice and clear. And they felt instantly comfortable: nice and light, with a good level of clamping force, comfortable headband and ear pads. And colleagues in video calls have commented my voice sounds nice and clear. And they felt instantly comfortable: nice and light, with a good level of clamping force, comfortable headband and ear pads. I can wear them for many hours without any discomfort. The battery life is amazing – it’s almost ludicrous how little I need to charge them. I use them travelling to and from the office, and for hours while I’m in the office, and I think I probably don’t charge them more than once a week. Also the hard carrying case is very good, doing a great job of protecting the headphones while travelling. So there are definitely some very positive things going for the Momentum 4 – and if these are the most important aspects of a noise cancelling headphone then it could be a good match for you.But unfortunately, for me, they also have some significant flaws. The build quality is generally ok – and I have no objection to using plastic – but I often experience a plastic creaking sound when moving my head. It’s only in the right side and I guess this could vary between individual headphones, so your mileage may vary. The touch controls are hit and miss for me. Sometimes it doesn’t seem to register my input, while other times I accidentally brush against the ear cup and something random will happen. If I try to change the volume I’m sometimes not really sure if it worked or not – and occasionally if I try to pause the music it’ll switch off the noise cancelling instead. I just don’t get on with the touch controls and dearly wish it had buttons instead.Oh, and it makes blippy bleepy noises every time you do anything – and sometimes when you don’t. Some people appreciate this kind of feedback sound, but for me it’s irritating not to have the option to switch it off.Bizarrely, I don’t seem to have any control over whether the headphones are switched on or off. I’ll explicitly turn them off using the sole button on the headphones, only for them to turn themselves back on again later. With such good battery life maybe this one isn’t as important, but it still feels a bit odd to me.Sometimes they automatically turn themselves on when I put them on my head – and sometimes they don’t. And sometimes when I put them on, the noise cancelling has turned itself off for no apparent reason and I need to go into the mobile phone app to turn it back on again. The auto play/stop feature doesn’t work very well for me, so I turned it off in the app. For instance, when I took them out of the case, the headphones would turn themselves on and start playing the last track I listened to.I don’t think my pair is faulty – I just think the controls and ‘smart’ features have been poorly implemented. The active noise cancelling performance is reasonable. The negative part is that they don’t seem to cope well with wind when worn outside – I frequently experience traffic noise coming and going when there’s some wind. They’re generally fine in the office though.I can find these frustrating headphones to use. I would have sacrificed a little sound quality for better usability.I feel sennheiser has overengineered the Momentum 4, when I think they would have been better removing some of the ‘smart’ features, getting rid of the touch controls and focusing on getting the basics really solid.

The mid and high frequencies are beautifully rendered, ensuring that every detail of your music is brought to life. From delicate vocals to intricate guitar solos and grand orchestral arrangements, these headphones excel at reproducing each element with remarkable accuracy and clarity. It's an experience that allows you to truly appreciate the subtle nuances in your favorite tracks.Additionally, the Momentum 4 headphones deserve praise for their consistent audio quality, even at higher volume levels. Unlike many other headphones that tend to distort and lose clarity when pushed to their limits, these headphones maintain their composure. Whether you prefer a more subdued listening experience or enjoy cranking up the volume for a more immersive feel, the Momentum 4 headphones won't disappoint. While these headphones may not satisfy the cravings of bass heads, their bass performance is still noteworthy. The bass is clear, well-defined, and seamlessly integrated into the overall sound profile. It strikes a fine balance that complements the other frequencies without overpowering them. If you appreciate accurate and controlled bass, the Momentum 4 headphones will impress you.In terms of build quality, Sennheiser's attention to detail shines through. The Momentum 4 headphones boast a premium construction using high-quality materials. They feel sturdy and luxurious, promising durability for extended use. The comfortable ear cups provide a secure fit, enhancing passive noise isolation and allowing you to fully immerse yourself in your music without disturbances. One minor area for improvement could be the noise isolation, which could be slightly better. While the headphones do a decent job of blocking out external noise, they may not offer the same level of isolation in particularly noisy environments. However, this is a minor consideration given the overall stellar performance of the headphones. In conclusion, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 headphones are a true delight for audiophiles seeking unparalleled sound quality. With their crisp sound, clear mid and high frequencies, and unwavering performance even at higher volumes, these headphones offer an immersive listening experience that will captivate your senses. While they may not cater to bass enthusiasts, they strike a perfect balance for those who value a well-balanced and accurate sound signature. If you're an audiophile in search of exceptional headphones within this price range, the Momentum 4 is an excellent choice. Indulge in these headphones and prepare to be transported to a realm of sonic bliss.

Superior sound and ANC to Bose QC

I've had Bose noise cancelling headphones for several years and have always really liked their sound except I and many others would say Bose lacks bass quality. Keep in mind I don't really like super strong thumping bass but seek a rich fullness and balance in sound. I have a pair of wired HD560 Senheiser headphones and decided to give this wireless model a try for my trip to Europe. What a difference these have made! The sound quality is absolutely amazing with full quality that matches what i was expecting from Senheiser. Normally, i feel like Bluetooth doesn't capture the same quality as a good set of wired headphones do, but these have been terrific. Normally, i feel like Bluetooth doesn't capture the same quality as a good set of wired headphones do, but these have been terrific. I was also really pleased to find that the noise cancelling was even better than my Bose, I could barely hear anything around me on the plane which made the 8 hour flight fly by. I'm happy that these have less of the ear-popping feeling you get from noise cancelling technology.Additionally, these have amazing battery. I charged then before flew to Europe, listened on the plane, on several trains, and back home and the battery was still over 50% from the initial charge. I also really like the smart controls, they are easy to use and intuitive, they even pause automatically when you lift one ear cup off your head which is nice when you want to hear a flight announcement or something. They do have a passive noise cancelling mode but you can't really hear people talking to you in that mode so the lift to pause is a nice feature. They come with a great carrying case that you don't have to worry about them getting crushed in your bag or anything.Overall, I love these headphones and an officially converted to a Senheiser fan after many years of loving Bose. Give them a try, they are worth the price even without being on sale.
