I wish I had read the manual before purchase. No firearms, no ammo, no delicates, no electronic media, no pearls. And having to drill holes in a new safe to mount, and no longer would it be waterproof... What can be safely stored in safe? Is paper such as documents and cash safe? I am going to keep this one and try it, only because this is a really rural area, and no other safes are within 100 miles to purchase. Hoping for the best.

Do not recommendHaving to drill holes in a new product then ruining the integrity of the inside of the safe so it’s not waterproof anymore! Doesn’t make senseAlso tightening the bolts causes the washer to bite into the internal plastic frame then allowing the fire insulation to come out alsoReturned to officeworks for a full refund

Only just got the safe but it seems to tick most of the boxes we had in mind. Good size, instructions easy to follow including getting out of packaging. Simple to put in codes and despite comments of others, not worried about the strength of the plastic handle on the front - appears to do the job well and don't think it will break/not work. The only negative for us was a feature that attracted us - ability to secure it to the floor. What the info doesn't tell you (or I could not find it) is that to use this feature you have to drill out the safe and in doing so, you lose the water resistant capability. Surely this feature could have been designed in a better way and not see you losing another feature in doing so? It works, digital lock is very simple to operate and the LED lighting does make a difference. Just wish that it would stay on longer. Only real drawback is I wish safe was an 1"-2" deeper for some legal documents, it would make it much easier to place them in the safe. That is on me for not looking at the spec's closer.
This is the first to safe I’ve ever purchased. It feels substantially heavy enough that it’s not going to be an easy theft from my house. I feel comfortable that it will withstand any fire and seeing as how I’m not in a flooding area I’m not worried about the flood protection but it does look like it would handle that as well. The instructions were easy to follow to set it up and to set the special codes. My wife has found it easy to operate as well which is a vote of confidence. I picked this up at Lowe’s and the packaging was in very good shape and there was no internal damage of any kind. The safe was in brand new condition as I would’ve expected. I picked this up at Lowe’s and the packaging was in very good shape and there was no internal damage of any kind. The safe was in brand new condition as I would’ve expected. The safe is a perfect size for storing important documents that you want to have nearby but not in the safe deposit box at your local bank. Based on comments about the nature of the safe and having to open it up to let the built-up moisture escape I stored all of the documents in clear storage bags and marked the outsides of them so it’s easy to see what’s in there and it’s well organized.I like having the shelf that is adjustable to store some odds and ends that are not documents. I like the door slots but they’re not big enough to hold documents unfolded. They do allow me to put an index of what’s inside so that I can easily keep track of the contents.
When I took the safe out of the box and read the documentation that came with it, I was sadly surprised to read that if you drill the holes to mount the safe to the floor or wall, it is no longer considered to be waterproof. That does not make any sense to me. So the safe can either be “secure” or “waterproof”, but not both. Also, there was a warning on the internet that said to NOT store flash drives, photos, certain jewelry (pearls were singled out), or anything heat sensitive. So apparently the safe may be fire proof for a period of time, but it does allow excessive heat to penetrate the outside case of the safe, which could destroy these items. The third thing is that I was not able to set my own 5-digit access code. I tried it st least 6 times before I gave up. I’ll just use the factory preset code.Worst of all, I saw a YouTube video of a safe lock expert who demonstrated how easy it would be for a burglar to overcome the electronic lock mechanism with a magnet. I don’t know any way to prevent that risk. I will always have the fear that somebody could easily open the safe even though it is a heavy well made case, has a fairly secure access code number feature, and I mounted it to the floor in the closet where I placed the safe.I did not do my homework before I bought the safe.
When removed from the box there was clear visible damage to the exterior, dents and dings, while the carton itself did not seem to have damage corresponding to the damage to the safe which leads me to think it was packaged that way. Unacceptable! Then, the safe would note open. Brand new fresh batteries were tried, still it did not open using the provide code. Removed the screw holding the face plate and found a severed wire from the power supply to the lock mechanism. Repaired the severed connection and the safe opened. However, due to the significant damage to the exterior which called in to question the water and fire proof integrity, I decided to keep the safe given a substantial discount and use the safe for another purpose, or have BJ's Warehouse exchange the ... MoreWhen removed from the box there was clear visible damage to the exterior, dents and dings, while the carton itself did not seem to have damage corresponding to the damage to the safe which leads me to think it was packaged that way. However, due to the significant damage to the exterior which called in to question the water and fire proof integrity, I decided to keep the safe given a substantial discount and use the safe for another purpose, or have BJ's Warehouse exchange the safe for me. After contacting BJs they declined to do both. I could only return the safe. The return then too was problematic probably at both the fault of BJs and UPS.
I bought a previous Sentry safe (the 0.6 cu in) model about 15 years ago. It had locking bolts on both sides of the door so that a burglar could not pry off the hinges. The new safe is much roomier but has no locking bolt where the hinges are. The exposed hinges looks like a few minutes work with a grinder to remove and then open the door. Otherwise, if the safe is hidden from view the thief must take the time to find it. For the price, it keeps honest thiefs from being tempted, but a couple of bad guys could simply lift the safe up and take it home with them. I am thinking of using the bolts provided to secure the safe to the floor. I also purchased two of the locking drawers so I can put things into the safe more discretely and better organized.
We are very pleased with this extra large, water and fire resistant safe. It was easy to set up and customize the combo. Locking and unlocking is very straight forward. The battery compartment is easily accessed at the front. The lights inside are a cool feature. Its easy to fill the extra space, so glad I got the larger size with a shelf.
Decent safe, my only complaint is the handle is plastic and doesn't feel overly sturdy; it feels like I might break it eventually as you have to give it quite a bit of pressure to open it. Hopefully there's a metal portion inside the handle, otherwise in a fire I would expect it to melt, not sure how you'd open the safe in that instance as there's no key slot (something I missed when I ordered.) Other than that it's what I was looking for. I should also mention that although you can bolt the safe down to something this cancels its fireproof and waterproof rating as you have to drill through the bottom. They mention it in the documentation.
