A solid purchase from a revolutionary company

The interior is extremely plush, the helmet is beautifully designed, and the LED's are vibrant, consistent, and definitely got me noticed from behind on the pulsating setting. If you're a commuter, and you're always wondering if the people behind you really know you're there, this has given me a level of reassurance I did not have prior. Other riders even noticed the pulsing light mode from a hundred feet away at night and a few lanes over. The top crown vent inlet is a simple slide mechanism, and the air flow one open is surprisingly noticeable and crisp. You can feel it run across the crown of your head and I had to close it because my head started to get a bit cold at speed even though it's in the 70's today.11/10 would buy again!

This one does great for the most part. Turning your head isn't going to catch the wind. The only issue I've had is a small bit of lift on the chin when a gust of wind comes up. Not really a problem, but worth noting. The visor provides good visibility, and is crystal clear. The integrated sun visor is really excellent, and clears my glasses no problem. It's easy to operate, even with gloves on.Finally, the LEDs. They're surprisingly bright, and can even be seen somewhat during the day. I'm an ATGATT guy, and any level of safety/visibility I can add is a plus in my book. The only thing I don't like is it's nearly impossible to find/turn on the lights when you have gloves on. If it's going to get dark before I end my ride, I just turn them on at the beginning.Overall, very pleased with this purchase.

Good helmet for the money
7 June 2017

This helmet honestly deserves 4.5/5 stars, but since that's not an option, I'll give it a 4 star review. The fit was as expected and is fairly comfortable, with a few gripes. The padding on the cheeks becomes rough and starts to chafe once you start to sweat a little, and due to the majority of the riding season being in the summer and 85+ out with humidity, I'm running into this issue quite a bit. To go along with that, the venting seems to be inadequate, and perpetuates the issue. The only options to vent on the highway are a small opening at the top of the helmet and another at the chin, with the latter accomplishing seemingly nothing. It's a must that I open the visor for in-town use, which isn't a problem during the day due to the dark, internal visor, but ... MoreThis helmet honestly deserves 4.5/5 stars, but since that's not an option, I'll give it a 4 star review. The fit was as expected and is fairly comfortable, with a few gripes. The only options to vent on the highway are a small opening at the top of the helmet and another at the chin, with the latter accomplishing seemingly nothing. It's a must that I open the visor for in-town use, which isn't a problem during the day due to the dark, internal visor, but becomes an issue if it's still hot at low-light/night. It's a relatively tight fit for the pads near the eyes, so clear lenses under the helmet is rather uncomfortable. The durability of the product seems to be good overall, but the clear visor was easily broken when I attempted to reinstall. This could have easily been user error, so take this portion of the review with a grain of salt.I primarily purchased the helmet for the LED features and they work as intended. My only complaints are that my helmet will shut itself off after 3-5 minutes and need to be turned on again (the helmet will then remain on until I shut it off or it runs out of power), the battery doesn't seem to last as long as advertised, perhaps short by a few hours, and finally the connector is Micro USB rather than Micro USB-C. I understand that the current industry standard for electronics is Micro USB, but in the next few years, we will see a switch to USB-C, and it'd be nice if the manufacturer were ahead of the curve in this aspect as well. For the manufacturer- Some simple fixes/improvements that could be done include making the battery removable and selling spares with chargers. USB-C connection for the helmet charger. A more robust, or easier to remove/install outer visor. A darker, or even polarized, inner visor. More venting.

Great First Helmet
20 June 2017

For what it's worth, this is my first motorcycle helmet and I love it. I got the matte black in a medium.Bang for the Buck: For the price, no other choices on Revzilla came close in my opinion. Some were lighter, some had nicer graphic/color choices, better brand cache, etc. But the Skwal offered the best combination for me as a beginner biker.Protection/Durability: Thankfully can't speak to protection yet, but it's held up nicely so far with occasional use. I've only ridden in dry daytime weather, and I take care of my stuff so I've had no issues. I've removed and replaced the shield several times and the locking mechanism is still stout, I have no worries that it'd hold up over time. I've removed and replaced the shield several times and the locking mechanism is still stout, I have no worries that it'd hold up over time. I was afraid that the surface would get marred easily but that has not been the case. Cheek liners have broken in nicely but still remain snug. Both ventilation switches are still nice and clicky.Features: I got this for several reasons - DOT/ECE certified, built-in drop down visor that covers the majority of the field of vision, integrated slots for glasses arms, and of course the LED lighting. My only gripe has been with the slots for glasses arms, or complete lack thereof. All videos/reviews/even the instruction manual indicate there are cut-outs for the arms of your glasses to slide into in case you wear prescription glasses when you ride, which I would need if I did any night riding. No such slots anywhere in this helmet.Comfort: After the cheek pads broken in, this helmet is very comfortable for me. I have nothing to compare it to but the weight does not bother me at all when riding (longest I've used it is for an hour). There is noticeable wind noise at speed, not sure what is loud and what is not but its not bothersome. The ventilation seems to be OK, but on really hot days I have found that I can barely feel wind moving through the helmet at speed and I can pull the helmet off after 20 minutes of moving and find considerable sweat buildup, so I suppose I'd wish for more robust ventilation.Style: I think this is a sharp looking helmet, without being overly aggressive. In hindsight I should have gotten a helmet with color but I did not like the white option, or any of the graphics.

Great Helmet

First off, any of my comparisons mentioned are referencing my last helmet, a Bell Qualifier DLX. Both helmets are a size Large. This helmet fits as expected, maybe a bit more snug than the Bell initially, but it has broken in nicely and is very comfortable now. Still a touch more snug than the Bell, but the padding in the Shark is thicker as well. Still very comfortable. The weight is fine as well. Not heavy, not light. Seems to be pretty comparable to the Bell.Airflow in the helmet is ok. I feel that Id more air in the Bell, but it was also air that leaked in around the visor on the Bell. Shark has a better seal system on the visor, and the airflow through the chin vent is pretty good. Shark has a better seal system on the visor, and the airflow through the chin vent is pretty good. I'm not unhappy with it at all, but living in SoCal I still end up partially opening the visor sometimes for extra flow. Which, btw, works great with the internal sun visor down. You can ride with the main visor up and the sun visor down if you want to, and its not going to direct excess air into your eyes at all. Very comfortable. The sun visor works effortlessly, and covers the field of view very well without any excessive "light leak" from the edges. The included Pinlock insert is a nice perk for sure. I've never used one before, but its been world changing on my morning commute this winter. No more fogged visor. Period. It just works as it should. Love it and wish I had tried one before now. This helmet also allows for eyeglass wearing. Even my wider than normal sunglasses that I occasionally wear, fit just fine in this helmet. My everyday glasses fit just fine as well. The lighting effects on the helmet are an added bonus for me, as my morning commute happens well before the sun rises. So I appreciate the added visibility to other drivers on the road. Simple operation and decent battery life. My one complaint about the system is that there is no indication of how charged it is, and no indicator to show if the charge is complete even. Having a simple light on the battery pack, would go a long way with fixing this. That said, its not critical to have that lighting, so if it dies on me one morning, I simply charge it while I'm at work. Using the steady light, I get over a week of daily 20min commutes. I assume the flashing mode would basically double that life, but I prefer the solid light effect.Overall, I am very happy with this helmet and would happily buy it again. If you're on the fence for any reason, just go for it, you won't be disappointed.

Hard pass
1 August 2022

There are enough cons while using this for months that I wouldn't recommend.- Shield fogs up instantly- Chin vent is terrible, closes on its own from the wind- Unusable with a Bluetooth system as the speaker cutouts have no depth. Nearly ripped my ears off.- I haven't owned another helmet that takes as long installing the padding. Taking sweaty pads out to dry or clean is awful.- The mechanism to turn on the lights is terrible... The button is attached to the battery pack and can become hidden easily.I mostly got this as I liked other Shark helmets and needed a new one with a drop down visor .... I find myself wearing my old helmet instead of this cause it's so bad.

Nice lid for the price!
11 April 2020

I just picked up a white sql 2 lid in XL and fits perfectly. I’m usually a large and I have a Shoei RF1200. Lid is more narrow on the sides. Exterior finish is acceptable and subtle as I don’t care for graphics much anyhow. Noise is present but equivalent to my Shoei. Really dig the narrow neck opening as that reduces more air rushing from underneath unlike the RF. Lights are a great feature and work well. The button is a bit cumbersome to activate barehanded but I would fire it up during my pre flight checks anyhow. Lid is slightly heavier than my RF judging by feel but didn’t scale them to confirm that statement. Interior padding is smoother to the touch but equivalent to thickness as the RF minus the check pads. Lifting the visor is a familiar ratchet style but the 1st position is a little larger than I like to increase airflow (2”). Chin cantilever vent out front is a novel idea but anemic for sure and I suspect I will have to wedge it open for summer Ops. Overall, it’s a great upgrade for $250 and nice to steer away from Japanese lids that I’ve been using for the past 20 years.

Solid Sub $300 Buy Very Happy!

Thanks to Revzilla I received it quick, and as always they packed it very well. I didn't want to go over $300 on my first Helmet in a while and so I took some time looking through my choices on RZ. Make sure you know your size too if you don't already have a helmet and you need your ride fix right away. If you buy the wrong size, you will be returning it and not riding until the right one comes. Also make sure you order the correct one if you want green or white lights. I almost messed up and ordered the white lights when I wanted the green. Charge time when I got it was about 2 to 3 hours. Don't panic if you cant change the mode while the cord is plugged in, you have to unplug it to do that.Airflow: Once you have it on it is comfortable and at highway speeds has great airflow to keep the shield free of fog. In traffic at 30 mph, not so much and you might find you have to crack it open occasionally but I haven't rode in a while so this could be with any close faced helmet.Noise: Wind is wind and I haven't tried other helmets but when you are doing 50+ you will hear it. However for all I know there is no way to truly silence the wind. In MotoGP 20 or Ride 3 or TT Isle of Man, the wind sound in helmet view seems more quiet than this but it is still present, so maybe this isn't a flaw.Overall:I could not be happier with the Shark SKWAL 2 Blank Helmet - Solid and for a new rider/re-rider, in a city area who thinks like me and rides at night to avoid traffic, this is a great choice for the lighted safety features, great airflow, and you have the option to install the Sharktooth Bluetooth system sold separately.

The sun visor is even better than the GT I had. It drops below eye level, so it's not in your field of view as much. The chin curtain is a little odd, not as fitting as the Bell's but it's not a big deal and the lining and pads feel nicer than I was expecting. Airflow is slightly better than average.Wind noise is relative since I always were ear plugs but it's second to the Shoeis. It's a bit tricky to put on since it's narrow in the opening to lessen wind noise. But for it's party piece, the LEDs are pretty cool. The power button is tricky to find even without gloves on so that'll take getting used to.It'd be difficult to find a helmet sub 300 that offers this finish and features. My experience isn't vast but I've looked long and hard for the best. I'm very happy and will probably look into more Sharks in the future.
