Initial impression of the MessMaster is positive. There are three of the usual most used attachments as well as a 3-Piece Extension Wand so you can reach high places or clean the floor without having to bend down. It feels like a quality piece, high quality plastics, well balanced and weighted. Just under 10 pounds. Its oval shape made it a perfect fit for under my kitchen sink.I found the suction power on the MessMaster able to pick up every mess encountered without having to make multiple passes. Using a 2-gallon plastic bag in the vac bin is optional but makes keeping the MessMaster itself clean on wet messes very easy. Without a trash liner, the bin also comes out for easy cleaning. The bin and attachments are all dishwasher safe if you wish to go that route.Unlike your typical home vacuum, this is more like a small shop vac. Able to clean up not only dry items, but unlike your typical home vacuum, it can clean up wet items, even large liquid spills you could not clean with a typical home vacuum without damaging it. It’s great for kitchen and kid messes. For example, before coffee, I had a bowl of 6 beaten eggs accidentally get pushed off the kitchen island. Normally that would have taken a whole lot of paper towels and some time to clean up. This small vac sucked it all up in seconds. I followed with a sainting wipe and then filled a bowl with warm water and let the MessMaster suck that up to clean the inside of the attachment and hose. After I removed the bin and cleaned it, I looked in the hose, all was as clean as when new.I repaired a small hole in drywall and the MessMaster did great at cleaning up the drywall debris after. The MessMaster works fine in the car as well to clean up a localized mess in one area quickly, such as from a child, pet, or small home DIY project. However, the MessMaster hose at just 3’ long which makes it awkward to use in a confined space such as a car interior. Small cleanups are its forte. But an extension hose would expand its usefulness and be a welcome addition or option.Pulling out the power cord and then wrapping it up when done adds to the effort, though small. This vacuum aimed at cleaning life’s small messes seems an ideal situation for a battery. Shark has some excellent battery powered vacuums, so they have the technology on the shelf. I am hoping another version will come out with a battery option to make this handy vacuum even handier.Dragging a large dirty shop vac from the garage is not usually practical or desirable. The MessMaster is well made, easy to use, and very handy to have in the home for many of life’s messy situations that come up.

I have had many Shark products over the years, both good and bad. This is the best wet/dry vac I have owned. It is not complicated to use. The suction power matches the advertisement, and it comes with plenty of tools for the right job. What surprised me the most is the small size, yet it still generates enough power for most jobs. I have owned two other wet/dry vacuums, small and large, and Shark's performance surpasses them. I use the Shark Wet/Dry for my wood shop. The Lift-Away was the best; Shark made this vacuum with every feature in mind for all types of cleaning. It has a dusting brush attachment for shelves, TV stands, and other places, which is no longer available with today’s new Shark vacuums (dumb of Shark engineers to leave the dusting brush out on all today’s models). However, the stick battery vacuum is junk. In my opinion, today’s Shark vacuums are overpriced and junk. Plus, Shark doesn’t realize the percentage of people who clean with their vacuums also dust with them. Some of Shark’s vacuums only come with very hard bristles that bend as soon as they touch any surface, causing the hard plastic housing to scratch the surface. Alternatively, Shark has an Anti-Allergen Dust Brush that does not work well. The old dust brush design had very soft bristles like a paintbrush wrapped in a circle around the housing, and the attached housing could be turned to any position.Anyhow, that is why I’m really surprised with how well-made and powerful the Shark Wet/Dry vacuum is. Would I recommend Shark vacuums? No! Unless you can find the Lift-Away made 15 years ago. That said, I highly recommend the Shark Wet/Dry vacuum over other brands.

This thing has become my new favorite all-around mess cleaning tool, and I use it mostly for cleaning out messes in the cars. The overall size of the unit is about what you would expect for most portable, smaller shop vacs / carpet spot cleaners and the weight is comprable as well. But where I was really impressed was the care to detail in the little things that Shark put into place here. For starters, this is a corded device, which has it's pros and cons. The biggest pro to a corded device is that I don't need to worry about a battery dying on me while I'm trrying to clean something. The biggerst con is that because it's corded, there's some navigation logistics to manage moving around the cars to clean them out... but it's nothing that a good extension cord can't ... MoreThis thing has become my new favorite all-around mess cleaning tool, and I use it mostly for cleaning out messes in the cars. I saw on the box that they also featured a larger vac head, but I was dissappointed to learn that the larger vac head was an "optional" accessory. When I checked Shark's website, the larger vac head was sold out, so wasn't able to vaccuum out the back of our van with the larger head that I had hoped I would be able to.One of the coolest features with this thing is that you can take the debris bin off and it's dishwasher safe. So if you have a wet mess that you're cleaning up, you can pop the bin off and stick in the dishwasher for a good clean... but I wouldn't recommend doing that mixed with dishes. At least, I didn't. The other nice part of the bin is that you can use any smaller trash bag with it, you don't have to rely on proprietary size bags. Small kitchen trash bags or even the occasional grocery store plastic bag work just fine.I've used this to clean up all manner of messes, but mostly, I use it to clean out our van that carries around 2 busy kids and 1 crazy dog. I've been impressed with how well it cleans, the cleaning power provided by a corded solution, and the portability of the size. This is now my go-to solution when there's a mess to clean and it's Dad's job to clean it up.

Shark really keeps innovating every space they enter with every new product they release. This new MessMaster, a small, portable wet/dry vac that’s capable of cleaning itself, is the latest example of that innovation. You can add this to the quickly growing list of amazing Shark products to own around your home, office or business. The MessMaster came very well packaged in easy to recycle cardboard and a few large plastic bags to keep dust off of the unit and parts. Unpacking everything was a breeze. To help you, Shark added an easy to follow, 6-step, Quick Start guide, printed onto the inner lid flap of the box. Getting started is just a matter of clicking some parts together. Attach the hose to the main unit, connect the accessory holder, decide if you want to use a bag or not, depending on the mess, and plug it in.I’ve only had it a few weeks now, but I’ve been able to use it quite a bit and am really impressed with the job it performs. The suction is super strong and there is a range of tools included, each one designed for a different task, and they all work great. All of the included tools are dishwasher safe. The Squeegee tool really does a great job of gripping the surface while vacuuming up the fluid without pushing it around. The Crevice tool is the perfect size to reach tight nooks and crannies around the house that tend to gather dust and hairballs. The Carpet tool does a good job of grabbing the carpet, while allowing air to flow in and around the tool which makes it easier to push and pull over the carpet while you’re using it. As a tall person, I’m glad they included three extension wand sections so that I don’t have to bend over when cleaning up a mess on the floor. The instruction manual mentions two other tools that are not included, the Bare Floor tool and the Pet Multi-Tool. Both of those tools are for dry debris only and neither of them are dishwasher safe like the others. The vacuum is very lightweight and easily held while cleaning. The cord is more than long enough to reach from one outlet to the next and is the perfect length for moving around the garage and car while cleaning.I love all of the innovative features Shark included with this new wet/dry vac. I really like being able to choose if I want to use a bag or not, depending on the mess. I also love that if I do want to use a bag, it can be any bag that fits, including the standard grocery sack, as long as it doesn’t have holes. Actually, I’d probably only use the grocery sack for dry debris, since they usually have small holes and aren't made for transporting liquid. However there are many other low cost options that can be used for wet vac messes. Another cool feature is being able to vacuum up water to flush the system and rinse the vacuum out, even after a dry mess. All you have to do is empty the dry debris from the Dust Cup, return the Dust Cup and vacuum up approximately 10 oz. of water to flush the system. From there you dump the water and repeat if needed. The innovation doesn’t stop there. Shark was sure to include a Hose Storage Hook, that allows you to wrap the hose around the lid and hook it into place for easy storage. Same thing with the power cord, just wrap it around the handle and clip into place using the head of the cord. The Accessory Holder gives you room to attach two of the cleaning tools and one tool can fit inside the dustbin. That leaves you with the three piece Extension Wand that can be stored near the main unit.If you haven’t tried a Shark product yet, this is a great place to start. And if you have, you’re already familiar with the quality of this brand. I love everything about this new wet/dry vac from Shark and I highly recommend it to anyone needing a vacuum that can clean both wet and dry messes, is easily cleaned itself, is extremely versatile and portable.
Initial impressions: There are a couple things I immediately liked about this Shark portable vac over our old famous name brand portable round vac on rollers. When I went to vacuum out the trunk of my wife’s car & the rear bed of my SUV w/this new Shark vac, I was surprised w/just how light it is. The unit itself looks a bit like a vintage hard shell makeup/cosmetics suitcase w/a long handle on top--only the rectangular box is a bit more oval w/rounded corners. Anyway, even though the unit weighs in at almost 10 lbs., even my wife had no problem lifting the entire vac up into the trunk of our sedan or up into the rear inside well of our SUV w/one hand. This is a welcome relief from the weight of the old & long-since discontinued disc-shaped portable vac which was ... MoreInitial impressions: There are a couple things I immediately liked about this Shark portable vac over our old famous name brand portable round vac on rollers. This is a welcome relief from the weight of the old & long-since discontinued disc-shaped portable vac which was both heavy & unwieldy. Next, I like that there’s not only a locking mechanism for the hose where it connects to the port in the vac housing itself, but there’s also a hook on the neck of the hose nozzle where I can fasten the flexible hose to the vac for easy, secure storing when I’m finished vacuuming. In contrast, my old portable vac offered no way to secure its flex hose, which always meant trying to wrap the flopping hose atop the vac after use. This contributed to a haphazard look in our closet.Instructions: The instructions for setup, use, cleaning, & maintenance are straightforward, as evidenced by the fact that I was using our new vac w/in 5 mins. of opening the box.Aesthetics: I like the conservative dark blue & black colors of the unit which provide a sleek, hi-tech look, even if it’s all plastic.Accessories: There are 3 fixed extension wands if you need extra reach along w/3 brightly marked plastic attachment tools. (Some units come w/5 attachment tools, including a Bare Floor Tool & a Pet Multi-Tool, but ours came w/just 3). Our attachments included a Crevice Tool for hard-to-reach debris found in cracks & other tight spaces, a Wet Mess/Squeegee Tool for liquid cleanups (pull only), & a larger-mouth Carpet/Upholstery Tool (push/pull). The good news is that all 3 tools attach to/remove easily from the angled hose inlet/nozzle. And there are 2 secure plastic clips mounted on the Shark’s housing that allow for storing whichever 2 attachments aren’t in use.Guts: Inside the unit, there’s a heavy-duty, dishwasher-safe plastic dust cup w/a shallow ½-gal. fill line for wet vac use & a high 1-gal. fill line for dry debris. I like the Shark housing’s see-thru design for the dust cup so that we can readily view the dry or wet debris fill levels from the outside, w/o having to open the lid (unless you’re using a liner bag that conceals the level of debris collected). There are also a couple of plastic filter housings & a total of 4 different filters that should be cleaned periodically. Shark also includes a couple plastic bags for use as liners in the refuse container if you’d rather confine your vacuumed debris to a disposable bag rather than having to clean out the container itself.Maintenance/Cleaning: I like that the unit’s entire hinged top lid is removable for cleaning. This makes access to the removable dust cup, large coned debris screen & housing, & various filters even easier. And If you use the Shark MessMaster regularly, then you’ll want to clean it regularly to help preserve the motor’s suction power, optimize its performance, & keep it sanitary. This will help reduce odors, especially if you vacuum any wet debris. After you regularly rinse & replace the filters you’ll want to fully dry all rinsed components & areas. Shark recommends that you clean the pre-& post-motor filters monthly & replace them annually.Room for Improvement: For ease-of-use, I do wish Shark engineers had designed the unit w/a longer flexible hose than the 3-ft. hose included. Yes, there are 3 fixed 1-ft. extension wands that provide an extra 3 ft. of reach, but those are rigid & unwieldy in tight spaces like the trunk of an automobile or the rear deck/well of an SUV. Also, I don’t enjoy the vac’s hot, smelly exhaust practically blowing in my face when I’m vacuuming in the tight quarters of the trunk or rear deck of our sedan/SUV. It’s not good engineering to have both the hose & the exhaust extending from the same end of the vac. Yes, I can turn the vac at an angle to redirect the exhaust flow, but that creates an unnatural positioning of the vac when using a hose that’s protruding from the same end as the exhaust vents. Finally, I’m hopeful that Shark’s engineers can find a way to maintain & even improve the unit’s suctioning power over time but w/a lower noise level. I didn’t see any specs on the decibel rating of this vac but, for me, the volume & pitch of the unit was so loud that I needed to use earplugs.Practical Usage:Dry: We view this Shark model primarily as a good portable dry vac tool for vacuuming our vehicles & a few areas of the house when it comes to light maintenance, spot cleaning, & freshening up sofa & chair seat cushions & backs. We might also use it to vac carpeted floor mats at the foyer entry, rear deck/porch entry, & side garage door entry. Obviously, there are times when dragging out a large upright house vac isn’t practical, quick, or convenient for light touchups around the house.Wet: We don’t see as much practical use for this unit as a wet vac. The problem we found in our wet vac test was that the unit didn’t seem to fully sequester all the liquid debris. Some of the liquid managed to get into spaces other than just the plastic debris cup, to the point that the amount of tedious post-wet vac cleaning, rinsing, & drying required simply weren’t worth the hassle to us. When the post-vac cleanup takes up more time than the spill cleanup itself, the high-tech method becomes counterproductive. We’d rather just grab some old, clean cloth towels that we keep on hand for occasional liquid spills, soak up the mess, & then wash the towels.Suction: I wasn’t expecting this lightweight unit to suck the chrome off a trailer hitch. After all, it’s just a 6.5A/780W/120V/60Hz machine. But I was hoping that it would at least suction enough debris from our 2 vehicles’ floor carpets, trunks, & upholstery to prevent my having to continue buying unneeded car washes in return for a free vac & prevent feeding the machines at my local DIY car vac center amid freezing winter weather & hot humid summer heatwaves. I’m pleased to report that this little portable Shark does the job on our vehicles w/adequate suction (good, but not great) to get the job done. It allows me to clean the inside of our cars from the privacy & safety of our garage at whatever time of day or night I want to clean them.
The MessMaster Portable Wet/Dry Vacuum from Shark is just what I needed to clean my car and to take care of the rare wet mess that a mop just can't handle. The one-gallon dust bin looks a lot smaller than I imagined, having pictured in my mind an average shop vacuum. When I first used the MessMaster to clean my car I thought I'd have to stop multiple times to empty the bin. It had probably been a year since I last vacuumed my car - and I have two toddlers - and cleaning the whole car barely filled a quarter of the dust bin.I am impressed with how powerful the vacuum is for its size. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the MessMaster's suction is comparable to that of a carwash vacuum. The size of the machine makes it a good option for car cleaning. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the MessMaster's suction is comparable to that of a carwash vacuum. The size of the machine makes it a good option for car cleaning. It is lightweight and compact in size. Most of its accessories can be stowed on the machine itself, with the exception of the 3 extension rods. An "accessory holder" is included on the vacuum, but it only holds 2 items. This is the most frustrating thing about this - and most any - vacuum. Where do you store all these odd sized accessories? Along with the 3 extension rods there are 3 other accessories; a crevice tool, a squeegee tool, and a carpet tool. I leave the crevice tool attached to the hose, allowing me to store the other 2 accessories in the accessory holder. Due to its shape, the squeegee tool doesn't clip into the holder all the way, but I was able to get mine to stay well enough. It would've been nice if Shark had engineered another accessory holder in which to clip the 3 extension rods. If not on the side then maybe embedded in the base. One of the things I like most about this vacuum is that it's all water-safe. Hoses, tools, bins, filters - they're all meant to be rinsed clean. Cleaning the machine out after a wet mess is as simple as vacuuming up a cup of warm water a few times. You can even use any 2 - 13 gallon plastic trash bag in the bin if you prefer.
I have a bissell, Hoover, and another off brand shampooer. I had dog urine, coffee and mud stains that I had tried so many ways to clean out of the carpet. Different cleaning agents, all 3 shampooers I have and nothing, I mean NOTHING would get the stains out. The smelled fine but stain was there. So, here is what I did…. I bought the Shark Mess Master and the CarpetXpert with StainStriker. I poured water on each spot, yes soaked it!!! Then took the new Mess Master and sucked all that water out and it was yellow yellow! Straight dog urine!! Then I let it dry overnight. Vacuumed with my shark navigator and then, I shampooed with the Shark CarpetXpert using the oxy multiplier formula and once I was done thoroughly shampooing I used the setting to do the super dry ... MoreI have a bissell, Hoover, and another off brand shampooer. Vacuumed with my shark navigator and then, I shampooed with the Shark CarpetXpert using the oxy multiplier formula and once I was done thoroughly shampooing I used the setting to do the super dry setting so that the carpet would be dry by morning. I was shocked that the carpet no longer showed any stains and to test I poured water on one of the known spot areas again and took the mess master to it and the liquid that I sucked up was clear!!!!! The combo of both, the shark double cleaning formula and the way the shampooer sucks up the fluid off of the carpet so powerfully is UNMATCHED! I have spent probably over $3000 in tools on the last 5 years and nothing compares to this shampooer. I am so happy with this purchase as I am with all shark products I own (vacuums, cordless vacuum, hair dryer, wet dry vac, shampooer). Shark is the very best!!!!
I love this thing! Oh my gosh. It's my new favorite way to clean up kid and pet messes (which let's be honest, there are ALWAYS messes to clean up).Pros: Very portable; everything winds up to keep the storage compact. You can clean uo wet and dry messes simultaneously!!!! (I think I love that feature the most.) Not too loud, although it is a vacuum so it certainly won't be silent. The nozzles are helpful and the quick guide gives you a breakdown of when to use them. If Shark makes other ones I'll want to buy those, but I haven't researched that yet. The vacuum has a good hose length for my usage. I like the optional bag feature. If I want to do a combo wet/dry vac that makes for really easy cleanup. Or I can choose to just do a dry vac and wipe it down after. Most ... MoreI love this thing! Oh my gosh. Or I can choose to just do a dry vac and wipe it down after. Most parents love choices and I definitely fall in that category. Easy to follow guide and instructions. I personally do like the Shark brand of vacuums and have great experience with them so I think this will last me a good while.Cons: Only one and it's very small- I wish the cord was just a two or three feet longer. I had to use an extension cord to reach the far side of the playroom, but that is also just likely because whoever built the house didn't seem to believe in outlet placement so it might work really well in another house that has decently placed and accessible outlets. For myself, I'll just plug in an extension cord. It's completely worth it.
This is a powerful little vacuum. It offers something other extractor don't really offer, and that is a rubberized crevice tool for sucking up fluids out of both carpet and hard surfaces. I was able to simply shampoo my car carpet after my dog vomited on it by applying soap and manually scrubbing, and then sucking all of the water out with this bad boy. It did a great job cleaning. Now onto why this isn't a perfect 5 star item. There are two major flaws that I cannot forgive.Flaw #1 that registers as a dealbreaker for me is that the float system is not perfect -- water WILL break past to the pre-motor filters. It did a great job cleaning. Now onto why this isn't a perfect 5 star item. There are two major flaws that I cannot forgive.Flaw #1 that registers as a dealbreaker for me is that the float system is not perfect -- water WILL break past to the pre-motor filters. There are two premotor filters -- one sponge-like filter that absorbs a decent amount of fluid, and a cloth like filter right after it. Just as advertised, I basically sucked in soapy water after doing a cleaning of dog vomit to wash out the hose. It stopped when the float got triggered, and I took everything apart to wash and flush. To my dismay, the sponge premotor filter was soaked. Nothing in the instruction manuals warn of this, and had I not noticed, it'd probably have rotted of vomit water the next time I used it (or even worse, gotten into the motor). A float is supposed to be designed to cut off suction and prevent fluids from reaching the motor chamber, and this is unacceptable. You can get away with washing the hose by removing it though, so this is completely avoidable. Just not a fan that the advertised cleaning method is not feasible. The design flaw #2 is that the short hose comes right out of the same side of the exhaust fan. That means if you're vacuuming something up, you're also blowing air right at the same direction. Speak about irony. It wouldn't be a huge deal if the hose was longer, but it is way too short and unfortunately always going to be an issue. These two flaws make the product hard to recommend; however, they might not be dealbreakers for you. Just be very aware of these design issues and be sure to take the sponge filter out after each session of wet vacuuming.
The influencer videos raving about this vacuum lose their credibility when they set it on their counter to suck up egg yolks and feed it a pound of dirt.I was gifted the light blue, minimal model. The 3.5’ stiff hose is useless around the house if I have to carry the vacuum to reach anything. I shouldn’t have to order the 4.5’ hose, which is still too short.I thought I could use it for my car. The vacuum has to be inside the car because the stiff hose is so short. It’s difficult to use under the dashboard: the vacuum tips and has to be restarted. The crevice tool is way too short to vacuum beside the seats and is too wide to use on the house’s sliding door jambs. The suction is good but another reviewer said that she was sorry that it lost suction when she added ... MoreThe influencer videos raving about this vacuum lose their credibility when they set it on their counter to suck up egg yolks and feed it a pound of dirt.I was gifted the light blue, minimal model. The 3.5’ stiff hose is useless around the house if I have to carry the vacuum to reach anything. I will continue to use my Craftsman wet/dry vacuum (long, flexible hose: vacuum sits outside) for my car.I highly recommend my Shark rechargeable, hand held vacuum that I’ve been using for years around the house!
