I’ve been a fan of Shark corded uprights since the original Rotator, but the previous Shark Cordless vacs that I've tried have been good at best and I even returned two models after one use due to poor performance on carpet. This one is a game changer with the power that has been missing both on carpet as well as straight suction dusting. It’s also light, maneuverable and I can't believe how quiet it is, even when the power increases. Not only that but the battery usage is surprisingly long even when using the powerhead and I am able to vacuum my entire home with much carpet on one charge and then some power to spare. When you add in the self-emptying dock, this is an amazing vacuum. On carpet, the immediate power increase is instantly obvious and unlike previous models that seemed to float on the top of the surface of the carpet, you feel this one digging into the carpet, agitating it (I can feel the vibration and power in my feet) and lifting the pile. The dirt detect suction increases are spot on in the expected areas where the cat lays or heavy traffic areas as well as sometimes in unexpected areas and they clearly add to the performance. In Hand Vac mode this is light to carry as opposed to competitor models; The attachments are decent for dusting or upholstery. They are nothing special but, Shark has previously omitted either dusting or upholstery in their attachment offering, and both are handled here. I wish there was a powered upholstery tool as the closest competitor provides and I continue to ask for a small, attachable hose that makes cleaning in tight areas such as the car, much easier. I am pleasantly surprised with the straight suction dusting suction of this model and the power does increase when dirt is detected. Even without that, the base suction on the dusting mode is very good.Minor cons are that the carpet nozzle width is small which can be a pro in tight areas or a con when vacuuming a large room. You can't charge this on the dock unless the entire wand is attached (Carpet nozzle is not needed but it won't charge only in handheld mode.) There is no tool holder on the wand, so they have to be hand carried. I mentioned above that there is no powered hand tool or hose but at this price point I am pleased with what I have.I really like that I can use a very effective, powerful, light and battery efficient vacuum in my entire home and I love the power with no cord. This has many bells and whistles that I didn't even touch upon as I wanted to focus on base vacuum performance which I love. Those additional features only sweeten the user experience when using this.

The power head can detect dirt, edges, hard floors, and which direction you are pushing or pulling to boost cleaning. The reverse feature allows for a lot more cleaning ability on hard surfaces especially for spilled products such as rice and salt! The stated run time is up to 70 minutes due to the built-in power management that adjusts the power for the task. The top portion of the unit has an LED display that shows the battery status, which cleaning mode has been selected by the trigger (ECO, Detect, or Boost), and the out ring changes color based on whether or not dirt has been detected, is being cleaned or indicates when the floor/carpet is clean. The vacuum comes with an articulating extension wand that can lock in many positions to facilitate cleaning and you can attach the combo duster/crevice tool or pet/multi-tool to it or directly to the power portion. When placed in the included charging rack, the vacuum will automatically empty into a sealed storage bin that also has a replaceable odor-neutralizing insert. This is done by a suction mechanism in the storage unit that empties the dust bin which has been great considering everyone in our house has dust allergies and we’ve noticed a big difference. The emptying process takes less than a minute but It’s a bit noisy. There is a quiet mode where you can turn off this feature until it is needed. Once the base storage is full it easily removes for emptying. The vacuum has a 5-year warranty for peace of mind, but in my experience, I’ve never had a Shark product fail. So we have a cordless vacuum with performance that is on par or exceeds my older corded model, that cleans the house and the built-in dust bin helps keep it clean, and is lightweight and stores easily!

High Power, which is the vacuum suction running at its highest rate for more trapped in debris or crumbs. The main head and neck has a flexible angle joint in the center that makes it easier for vacuuming under tables and furniture without having to crane down or crouch just to reach a few inches under these peices. The collection bin is most likely gonna be the reason you're looking at this vaccum and its a good feature. The main collection bin lets you empty the vaccum's collection cansiter mulitple times before having to dump the main bin and the main collection bin has a scented air freshener pod that covers odors and allergens from debris collected so you won't smell the odors collected. My favorite feature of the Shark Powerdetect is that the main vaccum is detachable and comes with a crevice nozzle and soft brush head nozzle. These extra accessories and functionality arent just great for my home cleaning purpose but also excellent for cleaning out my car's interior, so its multifunctional. It looks good too its modern without sacrificing power or function. I would absolutely recommend the Shark Powerdetect vacuum for your home.

Add the provided Odor Neutralizer Technology Cartridge to the Dock in the space provided by lining up the arrows and twisting until it clicks, then by setting it to the desired fragrance strength level which are marked on the cartridge. Once both the Vacuum and Dock portions are assembled, set the Vacuum into the Charging Post's cradle, plug in the unit and let the battery fully charge.Once fully charged, the LED on the side of the battery will have stopped blinking and when you remove the Vacuum from the cradle and press the Power Button on the top of the Handheld, the display will light up with a power strength indicator box with 4 outside sections. As you use the Vacuum and the power is depleted, sections of this indicator will disappear letting you know how much more you can vacuum until you need a recharge. Or, if you desire, you can purchase an interchangable backup battery and just trade them out and keep cleaning. .The Vacuum has 3 modes: Eco, Detect and Boost Mode. The Eco Mode saves energy and maximizes run time; the Boost Mode maximizes vacuum suction; and the Detect Mode is what this machine is all about by detecting the amount of dirt you are encountering and automatically adjusting the suction accordingly. The Detect Mode does an amazing job and gives you an intuitive visual indicator as to whether or not you have successfully removed all the dirt by shining a deep purple light when the dirt is heavy, a lighter purple light when it is being removed, and a white light when the dirt is gone. This system keeps you from dwelling too long in an area that no longer needs more vacuuming and keeps you moving. There are many features that help speed up your vacuuming time. The flexibility of both the MultiFLEX Wand, which will easily bend when needed to get into difficult to reach places, and the low profile and excellent swivel ability of the power Floor Nozzle really helps you get under and around close areas without having to move tons of furniture. Then, of course, there is the Clean & Empty feature of the Dock, which with the placement of the Vacuum into the cradle and a quick flick of a switch from Quiet Mode, which allows the Vacuum to charge without evacuating the Vacuum's Dust Cup, to Auto-Empty Dock Charging, which, with a Whooosh!, empties the Dust Cup automatically. With following the directions and doing proper suggested maintenance, this awesome Vacuum will do a fantastic job for years to come.I highly recommend this Shark - PowerDetect™ Clean & Empty Cordless Stick Vacuum!
Let me just start off by saying having a vacuum I love is a huge deal to me...not because I just absolutely love vacuuming but because I own 4 cats who shed like it's no one's business and I can't go more than two days without needing to suck up tumbleweeds of hair rolling across my floors.I own one of those Dyson cordless stick vacuums and love it so I figured this Shark cordless, auto empty one would be a great upgrade to be able to keep on my main floor and allow me to move the Dyson up to my second floor. Because who doesn't love not having to lug a vacuum up and down stairs?I'll start out by saying this thing comes in a pretty large box and is surprisingly heavy. Because who doesn't love not having to lug a vacuum up and down stairs?I'll start out by saying this thing comes in a pretty large box and is surprisingly heavy. Upon unboxing I realized that most of the weight is in the base you house the vacuum on to empty. The directions were also a little confusing. The "quick start guide" was short and sweat which I usually don't mind, but there were some parts that left me scratching my head on what went where and what setting meant what. I ended up scanning the QR and navigating to the expanded PDF guide, which was kind of annoying trying to view on my phone. After reading everything, the entire set up took me less than 10 minutes. The directions state that you need to charge it before you first use it so I let mine charge for about an hour before testing it out. I started out on detect mode on my carpet and was of course horrified at the amount of hair it sucked up, but also pleased because this thing can really suck! I sense I'll be using detect mode the most because I have carpets and hardwood/tile flooring on all levels of my house so it'll be nice knowing it'll automatically detect the appropriate amount of power to use based on flooring. As a visual person, I love the lighting indications for different things. I can't remember off the top of my head, but depending on the dirt level you'll notice the lights turn a certain color so you know whatever you're vacuuming is very dirty and then once it's clean it'll fade to another color notifying you it's done its job. My one and only complaint is that it doesn't seem to go over very plush carpet easily. I have a shag-like rug in my dining room and it was extremely hard to maneuver it on it. It almost seemed like it wasn't sucking much up either. I have to do a little more trial and error with settings to see if it's a potential user error thing. I hope it is because that rug needs vacuumed the most since it is shaggier. My favorite feature of course is once you set the vacuum on the dock it auto empties within like 15 seconds. It's so satisfying to watch! I'm very curious how many rounds I can go before I have to empty the main canister. Only time will tell on that. The battery life seems to be pretty impressive so far. I believe I was a little over half way drained after vacuuming my whole first floor and I'm sure on Eco mode that would make the battery last a lot longer. I'll be trying that mode next. I did just think of one other downfall, and that's the charging time. I think I read it takes 5-6 hours to full recharge, which seems like a long time.Overall, incredibly happy with this vacuum and am happy to say it's another product win by Shark!
The Shark - PowerDetect™ Clean & Empty Cordless Stick Vacuum & Auto Empty system is a dream come true for those of us that have multiple pets, in my case 3 dogs, that shed like crazy. For years, I have been looking at all types and kinds of vacuum reviews by people with pets and what their recommendations are. So, what does that tell you is the most important thing-it has to be simple, effective, and an easy process for the vacuum user. Oftentimes, they identify something, but many vacuum their floors numerous times each and every day. So, what does that tell you is the most important thing-it has to be simple, effective, and an easy process for the vacuum user. The system that I saw most highly ratedwas this one and I had decided to wait for the upcoming seasonal sales to see if Shark would be discounting it, all these goodies do come at a cost. It was fate that shortly after I had made this decision, this item came up for request in the Tech Insiders Network, but all the units had been taken by the time that I saw it. However, it was fate that made me go back onto the website and see that someone must have canceled their request, so I was able to get this, I am so grateful for that.Just like anyone else, I want a tidy home, especially since I have put a lot of time, money, and energyinto its decoration and furnishing. Last year we took all our carpet out and replaced it with hardwood floors. Two of the three dogs that I mentioned in the first paragraph are my husband's dogs-a straight hair Border Collie and a Belgian Malinois. During the day they are kept in a kitchen/ sunroom area. My goodness they not only shed terribly on the hardwood floors, but in their beds, on furniture, even if they are not on the furniture-it just flies everywhere. I am so glad that I get to own this machine to make my life easier. Why do I love this machine? One, with all the technology it is very easy to assemble-no problems. Two, I love that it is a self-cleaning machine. All my other vacuums have plastic collection bins that require the user to either push a button or a lever to open and then, over a trash can dispose of the inside dirt, yucky. In a couple of cases there is some sort of filter that is in the bin, and it falls out into the trash, to which I need to then fish it out of the trash or get my hands dirty extracting some of the contents that do not automatically fall out of the bin, yucky again. In any case all the dust is going into the air and with self-cleaning it is self-contained. Three, tis battery charges on the base, the base also has two bump ups that you can attach 2 of the 3 accessories, and there is another free-standing plate with a bump up that you can put the 3rd accessory on. Third, the length from motor to floor cleaner is jointed and allow the user to bend the bar and be able to easily in a low profile vacuum under a table, a chair, etc. Fourth, the floor cleaner has a no hair tangle technology and it picks up dirt as it is coming and going, making for a more efficient way to pick up dirt. There is also a great side detect and pick up when vacuuming up against your floor base boards, the base of your kitchen cabinetry, or furniture. Also, there is a lever on the motor that allows the 3 different power levels- power-detect, full, or eco. Power detect will figure out how much dirt is on the floor and the floor type to determine how much oompf is needed to pick it up. That power requirement will also make determine the motor loudness-less or more. I am very happy that I got this vacuum for my floor, upholstery, stair, up and down cleaning.
I have owned several Shark Vacuums over the years, and found them to be reliable, and fully featured, so I was excited at the prospect of trying their newest cordless model and see how it worked on my mixed carpeted/hard floor house. The box was alot heavier than I expected it to be, but since it came with an auto emptying system, the extra weight was unavoidable. It was simple to put together, as Shark does an excellent job of providing pictures, and online videos that make assembly very easy for their products.Once assembled, you need to charge it up completely, and mine took a couple of hours for that to complete. Once charged fully, I started to use it with the default "detect" setting, and was impressed as to how the power ramped up and down automatically, depending on carpet thickness, and bare floor location. At first, I was disappointed, as some of my thicker carpet seems to stop the brush head from properly spinning, and I remember that you had to have the vacuum slightly bent to enable the power head to work properly. Also, I realized that in the "detect" setting, the roller would struggle with some of the thicker carpet, but, once I remembered that you can increase the power output by squeezing the trigger, that seemed to fix the problem.Nice LED headlights, color coded based on what you are doing, and the ability to separate the long pipe from the power head to use it overhead and in other areas just make this a nice all around package.I'm not sure if this can completely replace a heavy, hard wired Vacuum, but unless you have multiple hairy pets, and kids, this should work well and make clean ups pretty easy.
This vacuum has a lot of cool features that I like. First, I like the central bin idea (the “auto-empty” dock), second, I like the flexible arm, third I like the adjustable power settings, fourth I like that it is lightweight, and fifth I like that it has lights on the vacuum head to illuminate the area being cleaned. The auto-empty dock is not necessarily game changing, but I like it a lot. When you are finished vacuuming, you just set the stem on the dock and then it sucks in the debris and does a little air blast or something to clean out the dirt collector on the vacuum. It’s pretty loud, but there is a “night mode” setting that will turn off the auto-empty when docked. It’s pretty loud, but there is a “night mode” setting that will turn off the auto-empty when docked. That has already come in handy when needing to run the vacuum for something early in the morning and I don’t want to wake the dead.Second, they added a neat feature called “flex-wand” that really IS game changing. Basically, the wand has a hinge in the middle so you can bend it in half to get under low furniture and cabinets without banging up the wand on your nice furniture. It works great and is a one-click button to have it fold.Third, using the finger trigger under the handle, you can switch from reg, to eco to high power modes. Sometimes you need the extra boost (like when vacuuming dog hair from the car) but sometimes you need longer run times, so you’d keep it in reg or eco mode for most things.Fourth, it’s much more lightweight than my other stick vacuum AND it is either on or off – I don’t have to hold down the trigger the entire time I’m vacuuming. It’s a little thing but I like it better than a hold down trigger.Fifth, the lights on the large vacuum head are nice and bright and illuminate the area being vacuumed. You don’t always see the stray hair and dust bunnies unless there’s a light shining on it at a low angle so it’s helpful. It comes with a odor neutralizer cartridge, but I keep it set very low as I don’t like scents. It also includes an extra filter. I had to go online to figure out where this goes, but it is used in the main vacuum part. There is one already there that you need to periodically clean with a plain water rinse, nice to have a backup. Also, there are 2 tools and what I assume is a tool storage device. The crevice tool doubles as a dusting tool, which has been great for vacuuming baseboards. There is also a “pet brush” that looks like it would be best on fabric or upholstery. There is one place on the base unit to hold one accessory, and there is a weird stand I think to mount somewhere on the base unit to hold the second accessory, but I looked online for instructions on where this thing goes, and we are just guessing because it was not clear where to install it.Overall, a really good, lightweight vacuum that does its job well and has some useful extra features not found in any other vacuums I’ve owned.
I have a Detect Pro auto-empty system that I got last year, and it’s become the most used vacuum in the house. We have a house full of cats, so it’s a constant battle to keep the hair under control before it turns into cat hair tumbleweeds. We could use another vacuum upstairs, so I decided to try this one.Compared to the Detect Pro model, the PowerDetect is taller, a bit heavier, has some nice new features, and a lot more powerful suction. I’ve been using it for a week now and it has been fantastic. The beauty of the auto-empty system is you can grab the vacuum for quick 5-minute cleaning sessions then just pop it back on the stand when you’re done and it’s ready for next time. The beauty of the auto-empty system is you can grab the vacuum for quick 5-minute cleaning sessions then just pop it back on the stand when you’re done and it’s ready for next time. People in the household will actually use this kind of vacuum when they don’t have to stop and empty it themselves each time. Every few weeks I have to empty the base and clean the filters, but that’s still a great trade for convenient use.The PowerDetect has a lot of vacuuming power now, almost like a corded model. In fact, in one situation it’s almost too strong. We have Ruggable rugs that Velcro down to a pad so you can remove the top part and throw it in the washer. Well, corded vacuums are way too strong and tend to suck the rug up into the roller. Cordless vacuums have always worked well to clean the rugs, but also not pull up the rug itself. Fortunately, with the PowerDetect I can manually put it in Eco mode and that reduces the power enough that it still works great on the rugs. The trigger switch for changing the mode between Eco, Detect, or Boost is right on the handle, so it’s very easy to switch modes back and forth.Another great feature is the MultiFlex wand that bends in the middle. At first, I thought this was just a gimmick but after using it around the house I’ve realized it's a big advance over the older model. With the swivel head and this wand, you can easily vacuum under chairs, the couch, beds, etc. without a struggle. It’s super handy. It’s also a nice feature for folding it back 180 degrees so the vacuum can stand on its own if you need to set it aside for a minute while you do something else. The PowerDetect also has LED lights on the front and back, which do help a great deal when vacuuming under those couches and other dark places. Another feature this vacuum has that seemed to take a long time to appear is there’s actually a place to store both included attachments on the base! Always before it seems like I have an extra brush that ends up just laying on top of the base or getting lost. Now there’s a spot for all of them. I do wish there was a way to clip the crevice tool to the vacuum while you’re using it, but there doesn’t seem to be. For now, I just stick that in my back pocket when I grab the vacuum to go clean up.One of the features Shark highlights about this vacuum is that the roller will clean in both forward and reverse directions (when you push and pull). It really does seem to make a difference and sucks up hair and scattered litter faster. It also has the Shark-designed small soft roller in front of the main roller brush. This works really well for grabbing debris close to the wall or up against the risers when cleaning the stairs. A lot of vacuums leave a frustrating line of debris close to the wall and you have to go back with the crevice tool. This vacuum makes that mostly unnecessary.I’m super happy with this vacuum and would get it again if something happened to this one. That’s not too likely, though, because the PowerDetect comes with a 5-year warranty. I highly recommend this vacuum for people with pets. Who knows, you might even need a couple of them.
Due to a medical issue a couple of days before I received my Shark - PowerDetect™ Clean & Empty Cordless Stick Vacuum & Auto-Empty System with Powerful Suction, a friend came over to help me clean, so she was the first to use it. As she does it for a living, I asked if she’d tell me what she thinks of it, so you are getting two points of view in this review. She was pleasantly surprised at how well it was packaged. The setup instructions were super easy to use and understand and she had it together in minutes. Once she opened it, she plugged in the cradle station and let it charge for a good 4 hours while she went about cleaning other things. We both found it super easy to use the power button on the control panel, and above that is an easy-to-read battery ... MoreDue to a medical issue a couple of days before I received my Shark - PowerDetect™ Clean & Empty Cordless Stick Vacuum & Auto-Empty System with Powerful Suction, a friend came over to help me clean, so she was the first to use it. The setup instructions were super easy to use and understand and she had it together in minutes. Once she opened it, she plugged in the cradle station and let it charge for a good 4 hours while she went about cleaning other things. We both found it super easy to use the power button on the control panel, and above that is an easy-to-read battery indicator light. Upon starting and using this thing it has an amazing sucking power. She did use it on carpet and on hardwood floors as I have both. She was able to get in around and under things that haven't been thoroughly cleaned in a while due to my physical limitations (and I’ve never been great at vacuuming anyway). She was able to get leaves that were embedded in the carpets which appeared to be mulched as I didn’t notice any when she showed me the tank as she was excited about picking up leaves. This machine was able to get super close to the walls, again cleaning a hard-to-clean place for me. It has handy little lights on the front for finding and detecting more dirt. This Shark has a self-propelled swivel steering head. It moves forward well and speeds up when necessary. Backward was a little more difficult for her as it was resistant as if it didn't want to go in the direction indicated. Moving forward was easy, but the backwards vacuuming was a little wonky for her. I did not find that to be an issue, but I also haven’t used it as long continuously as she did.The battery life on this is about 2 hours straight as she, bless her heart, vacuumed every room, including the pet’s favorites and kids’ bedrooms. She wanted to make sure she got everything she could while she had the excuse. And it worked fantastic. For the amount of area covered, the storage tank held everything beautifully. The vacuum was easy to get back into its holding cradle and emptied itself. This went much quieter than expected. The attachments went on and off smoothly. The only Cons we both have is that for a person around 5 feet tall (my size) or shorter, this was a tall product. Also, the weight of the top portion with the dirt canister and the battery was a little heavy, particularly as short as I am, though age and physical conditioning could also be a factor. While my friend felt the weight, it didn’t bother her, but she gave me a heads-up before I used it. Overall, we both think this is a great machine.
