I bought this to replace my knackered old derailleur which had excessive play, another review on here says it did not match his bike I cannot understand why as shimano replaced the rd 4000 mech with the 3100, they are mechanically identical from what I can see and mine fitted to my 2016 specialized crosstrail sport fine.If you're unsure take your old one off and tothe store for comparison that way you can get a refund etc if you open the box carefully with a staff member to check

I used this for a 1x conversion on a 1990s MTB. The long cage works well with the 32t cassette and it was easy to set up. The derailleur has an extender from where it attaches to the drop out so it would also work well with cassettes above 32t. Delivered extremely quickly (next day) and good price.

For the price it worked great as a replacement. Only thing I was a little disappointed in is that the pulley cage looked to be made of some metal stamping process. It is heavy and not much thought was put into the finish. There is some use of plastic too. That being said it does the job I expect it to. It shifts clean and precise without hunting between gears and everything runs smoothly. The long cage allows the use of tall 32+ teeth rear sprockets for easier climbing. Skip the Tourney/Acera models and go straight for this. Good value, jockey wheel nut was loose, probably derailleur was taken off a bike and jockey wheel was removed to do this. It caused problems with indexing gears until I realised. All good now though.
Needing more low gear range for the hills I bought an 11-34 cassette. Of course my aged ultegra short cage can't cope. A lot of Googling later it seems Shimano MTB 9 speed rear derailleurs match up. Early days, but seems fine, and I am loving the help on the hills.
I feel the quality if older version was far better, rest Shimano knows, although i am very happy and satisfied with the work of CYCLOP. Thank you CYCLOP for delivering the product to me.
After an accident on my bike ..... I bought this derailleur over a month ago price was good... I finally got round to fitting to my voodoo 29er fairly straight forward but alas can't seem to get it to run smooth in the last. 2 high gears (8th & 9th) so could have been more damage that first thought, so booked in with halfords see if they can see they can sort it
Used for an old 7-speed 90's MTB.... works well for the price.
I've upgraded to this Alivio a little earlier from Cycling Boutique for my earlier Acera RD. Enjoying this good piece of engineering. I am shredding the mud in the monsoons and this guy is handling all bad roads of Bengaluru very well, even on torrential rains.Quite robust spring is holding the cage very well on super bad roads around my areas.
