I want this to be the gold standard, never think about it drivetrain component, as previous generations of XT chain have been... but these haven't been perfect. I blew one up, sort of spontaneously after 50 off miles. Not a user issue or an install issue.I replaced the one that blew up, and am currently running 2 on a couple bikes - both are always showing a little rust, usually around the pins. I'm riding in the midwest, and almost always in the dry. I lube my chain roughly weekly, generally keep it pretty clean - I've never had rust issues before, even on cheaper chains on my fatbike that gets a lot of snow and road salt. And finally, both chains, both at about 1000 miles, have developed some rough edges on the inside, inner link plates. Not causing any issues ... MoreI want this to be the gold standard, never think about it drivetrain component, as previous generations of XT chain have been... but these haven't been perfect. You can see it, and feel it if you run your finger across it, to check if the chain is dirty or dry, for example.

I've never really been able to tell the difference between various chains but this one comes with a quick link so you don't have to drive a pin, and works with the new Shimano 12spd group (also with a SRAM 10-50 cassette). Swapping out the chain before it stretches too much will give you a better performance boost than spending $$$ on a baller chain, and unless you're a time trialist/triathlete you're going to have muck in it pretty fast anyway. It's a good chain at a decent price.

This order 2000104-45476270 for a CN-M8100 126 LINK CHAIN arrived in broken packaging, broken box, opened cellophane containing the chain, and it appears to be a used chain, re-packaged.I cannot risk my safety installing this chain when it came in this awful packing. How can you assure me you didn't re-package a used chain and the re-sell on The Walmart Website as "New"?I will be notifying Walmart regarding this order.I will await your response and your explanation.

It's a 116 link 12-speed XT chain.Doubtful it will last any longer than the Deore equivalent. The supposed sil-sec coating did nothing to protect the last one from rusting significantly after just one ride where I didn't meticulously clean afterward.Expensive for what it is, but what isn't.A quick-link would have been good at the price
Following converting from Sram to Shimano, the chain has been excellent. Done just under 200Km and it hasn't missed a beat. Westbrook confirmed the freewheel hub, best Cassette and chain - all works well together. The fitting (converting from Sram to Shimano)and setup took a bit of time to get right, if doing this allow time if you're not familiar with the switch.A bit pricey for what it is, thus 4* and not 5.
Shimano chains on Shimano drive trains. I have had great luck with Shimano chains. I do clean and lube them each ride. Currently I have 2000 tough Az. desert trail miles on my chain and it still measures at different points all within spec. We generally ride 15-25 miles each ride so the chain doesn't get too dry or excessively dirty.
Made a slight upgrade over the stock chain with this recent purchase. Shifting is awesome and this is running great with my SLX rear on my 2021 Norco sight A2. Living in the Northeast, I tend to really be hard on my components due to the muck and mud that’s ever present on my local trails, hoping to get a bit more life out of this chain that the previous one that came stock. Shipping was quick from MJ, as always. Don’t forget to get a chain checker and some quick links !
I bought this for my MTB and it works! The big thing is that by going to Sigma, rather than a cheaper Chinese site, you actually get a genuine Shimano chain!
I purchased an XT chain to swap with an SLX chain that came with the bike. I do this swap every few hundred kms to maximise the life of the cassette. The XT chain seems to shift a bit more smoothly and precisely than the SLX chain. It should last longer too due to the coating on it.
XTR chains break under massive loading on the trail. GX chains shift like an 18 wheeler. The Shimano XT chain has been the only reliable chain I have used in 35+ years of MTB riding and racing. Cannot say enough about the excellent design. Unless you are 150#, stay away from the hallow pin style. XT is for all the rest of us. I am disappointed in the new non-reusable quick links. Non-reusable? Come on Shimano.
