Wanted an extra gear, so this 42t chain set to replace a standard 40t was my solution. Very easy to fit, no adjustment to rear derailleur necessary and quite a bit lighter than the old one. Works a treat, perfect!

Great balance between climbing and cadence.

I found that when riding multi day endurance events with a loaded bike I struggled on climbs because of the excess weight I needed to carry. The GRX 48/31 is the perfect compromise as I don’t need out and out speed. Very happy!

I bought this for a bike build for a Mason Bokeh. Yes I've fallen for the whole gravel craze but after 20 years of commuting on 25mm rubber I can confirm 32mm is better and this crankset is super. Looks smart , nice colour, Shimano build quality. Was worried by smaller chainrings as used to 50-34 but its fine. You need the GRX front mech as its wider Q factor.

Lightweight crankset
19 May 2020

I ordered this, a new cassette, and a long cage derailleur to set up my gravel bike as a 1x11. Was getting fed up with the front derailleur, but already had Shimano, so it was cheaper and easier to switch to the GRX components compared to changing everything to SRAM (no offense to SRAM). Shimano makes great lightweight cranksets. All I needed was an inexpensive 8 star tool to remove and fit this one; I had the other tools. Easy enough to look up videos how to do it myself! Also, Jenson USA has been very swift with their orders, even during COVID19!

Magic stuff for gravel riding

The chainset is good quality with crisp feeling and no chain drop. . Installation is simple and recommend a torque wrench for correct settings. Highly recommended product

Metal shavings on the drivetrain
2 September 2022

I have install this crankset on my Topstone 1 that had around 150 miles. So it's a pretty new bike (cassette, chain and derailleur). But after one ride I've noticed metal shavings on my chain, cassette and front chainrings. Before installation I've noticed that chainrings on a new crankset are not smooth (have burrs). Not sure if I got a "lemon" or is it a norm but I didn't see this on any my bikes before... (ibis that has shimano drivetrain and fsa crankset that Topstone came with didn't have this issue).

Smooth rotating and easy to install crankset

Replaced stock FSA 19MM 46t/30t Canondale Topstone 1 crank. Works great, so much smoother than stock crank and allows for overall faster topdown speed. Installed myself by replacing FSA BB with SM-BBR60 since FSA BB is not compatible with this crank. Some force with a rubber mallet was required to get crank fitted into new BBR60 BB. A 3/8 torque wrench with support for 40-60Nm is also required to properly torque BB. Non-drive side crank arm is easy to install, just set preload then toque crank arm screws between 12-14Nm (alternating). Well worth the time and money for a crankset upgrade from stock.

Usual Shimano quality but flawed GRX gearing
8 January 2021

First foray into 1x and my other bikes are Shimano so I wanted to stay with the same system. The crank is well made and a nice finish. But after a couple of rides with this 42t on the front and 11-42 XT cassette, I've discovered that the 11 speed range is not enough. I have ordered a 40 tooth for the front so that I can climb anything remotely steep (off-road), but I know this will impact on the top-end on tarmac. I don't like the Sram controls so it wasn't an option but I wish Shimano would catch up with their 1x offerings.Sigma - you need to start including 'Gravel' in the 'discipline' dropdown.

Typically simple shimano install. direct replacement for any hollowtech II 24mmsetup. Chainrings aren't stupid expensive either. right foot is now pain free - whetherthis is directly related to the wider q factor or just placebo effect ... don't know andat this point don't care either :)

Service was excellent, package arrive very quickly and without any issues. Everything was very well packaged so no transit damage. I use a cyclocross bike as my commute bike in all weather. in 6 years I have has 2 hollowtech dual chain ring cranksets fall apart (the cranks have have unbonded from the spider)- this single ring crankset is much simpler and as it is more compact and as a result there is less flex so hopefully it will cope better with the stresses and strains of frequent use.It was very easy to fit - being Shimano there was no need to change bottom brackets etc and removing the front mech has made the whole bike simpler and will hopefully reduce chain wear too.
