Proper chain line

On a recent build with a 148 rear hub spacing, it was important to have the right chain line. These cranks made that happen. With so many numbers to keep track of, it is easy to overlook things. Like all shimano products installation was straight forward.

Quality MTB cranks at a fair price

These cranks look good and feel good for less $ than XTR. Running mine with a Wolf Tooth chainring and a Wheels Manufacturing BB, pretty stoked on the result. Solid and smooth feel with an easy install.

Quality crankset, a bit heavy, includes lockring tool!

This crankset is very much what you would expect from Shimano XT, great quality, nice appearance, strong and stiff, but a little heavy. This weighed 528g (without chainring) for my 170mm set. The XT 32T chainring adds an additional 115g.An important note!! The crankset includes the TL-FC41 tool for installation of the chainring lockring, so don't buy one separately like I did!!

Shorter XT crank set up for better Ibis Ripmo AF clearance
19 March 2024

Been riding the Ibis Ripmo AF (SLX with 175mm cranks) for a bit now and even with sag set up nice and tight, I was still getting pedal strikes on some pretty standard and known trail sections. With the XT 165mm upgrade and new XT BB feels like my old bike with predictable clearance and no noticeable pedal stroke dynamic changes. Solid design, weight savings and ease of install. Did have to buy the Shimano pretensioner tool and the chain ring tool as well. But those were available for less than $20 for both. Overall very happy with the new set up!

The best alloy cranks
24 November 2022

Carbon cranks have always left me a little weary. I’ve had several friends break them. For this reason, I use the Shimano XT 8100 cranks. They are reasonably light for an alloy crank. The interface to install them is incredibly easy. I feel there is not enough of a weight savings to spend the money on XTR.

The best value crankset on the market
19 May 2021

A set it and forget it crankset. Takes a beating and keeps on spinning. I've had XX1 carbon cranks and the XT is just more durable. Manufacturers are trying to convince the public that 30mm spindles are needed - they are not. Shimano 24mm is plenty stiff, even for a 200lbs rider pushing high torque (singlespeed application). 24mm also accommodates eccentric bottom brackets like Wheels Manufacturing and Niner Biocentric 30. Any easy pick and great value.

Understated quality
14 June 2023

Shimano cranksets are by far the simplest to work on with the slight issue of needing a special tool (TL-FC41) to fit the chainring. This tool does fit hollowtech bottom brackets as well as compensation. Went for the on trend shorter 165mm cranks, time will only tell how get on with this. The only downside it the price compared to the SLX cranks, if only these did not have SLX printed largest size possible on them. So if you want a simple to use, understated and quality set of cranks then these are a god choice. Just make sure you torque up the bolts.

Very clean looking
21 May 2023

I love them, they look really slick on my bike. They have held up great so far blasting down rock gardens too.One thing I don't like is the protective film sticker that comes on the arms. Within an hour of the first ride it started peeling, and they don't come off clean. Took some rubbing alcohol to completely remove it. No big deal though.

XT Cranks FTW
24 October 2023

It's XT. The hollow tech II construction is nice and light. If you've never tried a light crankset, you owe it to yourself to do so. These are roughly half a pound lighter than Shimano's current Deore cranks and you can tell it when you spin them.
