PD-RS500 right pedal has loud clicking and popping noise after 1000mi. Tried adjusting clip tension several times but did not fix the issue. Same shoes used on dura-ace pedals with no issue. I am not a pedal smasher avg 180W - 210W, 600W-800W peaks depending on the ride but wondering if these pedals are designed for more casual use.

These pedals are fine. I have been using them for 3 weeks, riding 1-hour per day. Clipping in and out is generally very easy, and the ride is quiet and smooth. One note is that they seem to balance with the clip side down, so getting clipped back in while moving takes some fiddling and concentration. As consumers, we must unite to kill off using the term "clipless pedals" for this type of pedal. These pedals are the kind we most definitively clip INTO. That is the whole point of the technology. The only other kinds of pedals are flat (no clips) and the toe-cage type, which also have no real clip. At most, a cinch strap. Those are basically toe-holster pedals.

Standard shimano pedals. They are the cheapest ones that are still worth getting, they just work. Not the most durable, I find that the cleat retaining section at the rear of the pedal wears out eventually on the inside where you clip out, and I wish you could replace this part only as the main body of the pedals last for a long time.

Very minimal effort to click in. Great for commutes with lots of intersections or stops. Easiest cleats to clip into, have tried 3 models over past 15 years. I'm no pro, I just found that of the 3 types of Shimano pedals this is by far the most easy to unclip or clip in. Also comes with new cleats for your shoes which, is a $15-20 bonus depending on where you would go to find them.If your wanting to be locked in, and have your feet not wiggle around these are not for you. They, by design, do allow you to wiggle your feet side to side when locked in. About 1/4-3/8th inch of movement to allow you to find a comfortable pedal position. I use this to my advantage to position one of my feet to the edge of movement when slowing down, so when I'm ready to unclip, it's ... MoreVery minimal effort to click in. Although these are rated as a beginners pedal with easy unclipping I found the pedals securely located my shoe on the softest setting with no accidental unclipping. I am enjoying using these pedals with a reassuringly positive unclipping action. They also have am easy clipping on action.
Just installed them on the indoor bike for my wife. She did a quick 5 min 'ride' to test them out and get the cleats fitted. She said she could already tell they will make a huge difference. The plan is to keep them on the stationary bike so she can get used to them and until the nice Spring weather lets us ride outside again, then ill put them on her road bike.I really appreciate how easily they adjust too.
I love these pedals. I bought them to use on my indoor stationary spin bike so that I could ride more efficiently, and they are so great! It's been great practice for me to get comfortable with clipless pedals in order to try it out before I put them on my regular bike, too.
After riding for a while with Look pedals decided to go back to Shimano as so much easier to get your feet into as they always balance the pedal upwards for you. These are the entry level models but perfectly good quality and no need to spend any more money on the higher models for recreational riding. Can’t do wrong for the money.
At first I was afraid, I was petrified. But then installed these pedals on my bike, strapped on my new cleats and I took off like a cyclist in The Tour de France! At mile 14.5 miles I decided to stop for a protein bar and some water. I came to a complete stop and that’s when I realized I had forgotten to unclip. Over I went and into the soft cold mud I landed! I didn’t even have time to let go of the handlebars! I wasn’t hurt at all except for my ego. I got back on that bike, waved at the spectators across the park that appeared concerned or amused and I took off to finish my race. Thanks Shimano!!!
I purchased a good stationary bike in April 2022 which came with dual sided SPD/platform pedals. I rode a road bike for many years and wanted the pedals to be the same as my road SPD-SL pedals. Since installing these pedals my bike workouts are much better and my workouts better simulate an outdoor ride except you can't coast on a stationary bike. It was for me a good purchase.
