Do not expect tool free installation

This is the first time using a Shimano Quick Link (I've always used Sram before) and am not happy. I am savvy with bike repairs and not weak but was unable to get these to lock by hand. I had to turn the crank to get the Quick Links positioned in front of the chain ring, hold the rear brake and apply forward pressure on the pedal. Removing them required wire, pliers and some creativity. Of course there's a tool you can buy to make this easier...or you can just buy Sram or KMC, which is what I will do next time.

Finally!

Been waiting for these for a long time. So tired on installing the pins on the old chains.... Is it too tight or too loose? Does the pin stick out far enough each side? Etc. Ugh! These are just like all the other ones. Good luck trying to undo them with your bare hands though. Get the right tool that works both ways for putting these on and taking them off.

The Quick-Link is much more convenient than the old pin arrangement however make sure it's put on the correct way round !!Was previously using KMC links with Shimano chains but will now stick to the same make for 11 speed.Came in two tiny plastic bags within the larger blue Shimano box which is un-necessary packaging !!Good price as usual from Sigma

Good bye chain pin... Welcome Speed Quick Link
22 March 2019

Glad to see Shimano offer the quick link and forego the hassle of having to use a chain pin and chain break tool. Makes removing the chain much easier, however, you'll still probably need to use a chain plier to remove and then set the quick link. Still better than the old system...

Great alternative to chain rivet
27 January 2019

I have followed the traditional method for joining a chain for years but have usually also then had to deal with a stiff link. Whilst you still have to break the chain to get it to the right length using a power link like this makes joining it so much easier. I would definitely getting a pair of the fitting pliers - standard pliers really are not that great for fitting it. Excellent.

Quick link

Does what it's supposed to do, I would recommend getting the link tool to go with it though. I did not have the tool during installation, and had to result to some more brute-force methods for getting the link to lock.

Reliable, must-have resource
6 September 2022

As someone that's been riding for nearly 40 years and experienced the challenges of snapped or dropped chains more times than I can count, these guys are a must-have for general chain installation, but especially as an emergency fix. They make removing a dropped chain easier to fix in the field.I've found Shimano's to be extremely durable and reliable, particularly compared to other brands and certainly over off-market knockoffs. I've yet to have one fail, even with thousands of miles on a chain.

Shimano Quick Links
5 March 2023

There isn’t a lot to say about Shimano quick links as they’re required as spares for your drive chain. However what was a pleasant surprise was that Halfords were cheaper for a twin pack than all the larger online brands for a single item. Delivered to the door on time as well. That’s value for money for the same OME.

Tricky to fit!
26 June 2020

I bought this quick link thinking it would be quick and easy to fit but it's much more trickier than I expected. Once you fit the link, it's not easy to pull it tight (I've had different quick links in the past and they've been really easy to fit). I didn't have the chain link tool that pulls the chain (and I doubt most people have this as well) so after trying with thin players and failing, I ended up watching a Youtube video after fiddling around for ages. You basically fit the link loosely and then stand on the pedals to create tension on the chain before the pressure makes it click into place. Job done - If only I'd known that before starting! :-)

You'll need these if you break your chain. Way better than using a chain tool.
14 June 2020

The official guidance from Shimano is that QuickLinks are one-time-use-only, which is why I bought these spares. According to home mechanics on the message boards, these can be reused many times. Well, at least I have spares now.
