This is very good general purpose reel for when you want a star drag. I like it mostly bottom fishing and casting. The ONLY reason I dinged it to a 4 star is the lugs for the real seat clamp. They are of good design but material that just isn't up to the quality of the rest of the reel. The flanges that hold them to the foot of the reel will break under strain if you don't snap them off installing them. I found a few solutions like the cork puppy, the trinadad A clamp and the Tiburon TCU-L. I choose the Tiburon clamp. Runs about $40 and was about half of the most expensive solution. Other than that it fishes with the power and reliability of the older Penn 4/0s with out the weight, balance and slack in the anti reverse. Far more castable too. The reel is well built with very close production tolerances. I will probably wish it held more line as my wife uses it and she will probably hook an eighty pound yellowfin that I will have to try and land. So far just a twenty inch red snapper. She hooked a twenty six incher on my Torium20. I landed them both. Good reels.

Matched the 16 with the Terez reinvention of the tcurve 24kg deep jig. Reel holds 400m of pe5 (89lb) Ocea braid with plenty of space left for heavy leaders.
i spend most of my time throwing jigs in Southern Ca for yellowtail, bonita; barracuda, and schoolie size tuna and this reel is awesome. Really solid feel, great drags, good frespool and strong gearing. Only hit is for weak clamp setup, the heads on the anchor bolts break off easily, purchased a tiburon clamp setup $40.00 so I could put on deckhand style rods - this is the only thing keeping it from 5 stars.
Awesome reel. Paired it with a 66MH trevala and it’s a deadly combo for halibut and rockfish. Huge line pickup per turn, large capacity and lots of drag. Bought two to replace a couple Penn fathoms and will be buying a couple more.
II purchased the reel which I will be using in October/ November when I go up to King Ash Bay fishing out of Vanderlin Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria so will let you know how it performs if you remind me, we will be catching Spanish Mackerel, Red Emperor, Coral Trout,etc & will have Photos' to make all very envious. I have the 16 and loaded with 500 yards of 50 Berkley Professional Braid. The reel is smooth, very powerful, free spool is awesome and casting is awesome and the drag is nice and smooth with carbon fiber washers. It is really compact...almost the size of the Torium 14. The 16hga is slightly slimmer and slightly taller. For jigging, casting and retrieving it is great with the narrow spool. Most people would probably not need more than the 330 of 65lb braid it holds though.its also a one piece cast frame now, no graphite! A nice budget Trinidad if you do not need to spend the 450. These are as smooth as silk, like all Shimano reels. I haven't used these yet, but I know they will work great for halibut fishing.
