The new XT components set a completely new quality standard in the MTB sector. Powerful for efficient power transmission and fast responding braking force. Dynamic with "Rider Tuned" 11-speed transmission combinations for outstanding performance. Robust and reliable even on the roughest trails. The new hydraulic 4-piston disc brakes fit seamlessly into the Deore XT component lineup. They have been designed to allow aggressive driving even in the most demanding terrain while providing safety reserves. The new stoppers use Shimano's Iice-Tech heat management system to design the calipers, compatible discs and pads. Servo WaveThe Servo-Wave brake lever takes up a lot of braking distance at the beginning of its movement so that the pads can be guided to the brake disc with a short lever travel. After the brake pad has been applied, the power transmission factor increases rapidly. This means that the greater part of the lever travel is still available to increase the braking force and to control it more precisely. I-Spec IIThe XT levers are compatible with the I-Spec II system, which allows the shift and brake levers to be mounted on the handlebars with just one clamp, giving more freedom in cockpit design, saving weight and improving ergonomics with a wide range of adjustment options. Easy to assemble with narrow brake lever clamp. More space on the handlebars and a tidy look. One-Way VentingOne-Way Ventilation is designed to quickly and easily prevent air from entering the hydraulic system. Shimano has optimized the routing of the brake fluid throughout the system to prevent air bubbles from trapping in the system. The brake fluid's one-way path, together with the funnel for filling the mineral oil, allows clean, trouble-free bleeding.

I upgraded from Deore M6120's to these 2 piston XT's up front and 4 Pistons in the rear, personal preference. These brakes are, without a doubt, a positive upgrade over the Deore version with better modulation and feel at the lever, not to mention improved build quality. A more significant adjustment with the shifter and dropper lever. I had 2 piston SLXs on a 2015 Fuel EX and loved those and never had an issue with brakes, so I see this continuing with the XT's. I recommend staying away from the Deore versions and getting at least SLX, and there is a difference.

OK, maybe that's a slight exaggeration but only a little. I got these to replace some 4 piston G2s that came stock on an aluminum Hightower because they were the only complete set I could find that wasn't insanely expensive. Turned out to be a great buy. And that's right. I replaced a four piston brake with a two piston brake and they are killing it. They have amazing stopping power. The lever blades are dimpled and have a great feel. True one finger braking with power to spare. Super easy to bleed too. Happy with my purchase and I would definitely buy them again.

Dollar for dollar, the best brakes.
23 September 2022

Best brake out there for value and performance. Consistent and, other than replacing the pads, requires no maintenance for a long, long time. I went with the two piston for my hardtail and there ain’t much of a difference between these and my 4 piston XTRs. Shimano has had a reputation of making the best brakes and they have had that rep for a long time. There’s a reason.

Finally, I can brake! :)
11 May 2023

I grabbed these (rear and front) last summer for my Giant Talon 29er. Left the original discs. Well, these bad boys were a significant upgrade to the tektro brakes the bike came with. I wasn't able to stop or pose on any features before but after putting these on, the riding experience was night and day. Love them and XT level components are awesome. Was out riding yesterday shredding gnar and my riding group was like "Dude, you shred bud!". Thanks to these brakes, I could stop in style and impress my fellow gnar shreddars!

Good brakes.

Works very well. However this is the first time I had hydraulic brakes on a mtn bike so not much to compare with. This is the first time installing hydraulic brakes so it was a bit to learn -- for example on Santa Cruz Tall Boy the protective cap on the brake line will not go through the frame holes. Found I had to bleed the brakes after install -- just could not get air out any other way. I found conflicting instructions on different Youtube channels - confusing but nothing of great consequence.

Massive Braking Power, Not a Massive Price
16 May 2023

I bought these because my Avid Elixir 5 weren't too far gone and everything needed to be replaced on them. So, in an effort to save some money I went with that Shimano brakes. They work fantastic and I have no regrets. Here's the deal though. You need to sort through a massive amount of web pages to find the the actual instructions for setting these up. This all can be diverted by Jenson providing a direct link or Shimano adding the link within the packaging. Once you have these, you will be good to go without bleeding them.

Pandemic gouging

Well for what I paid for this single brake I got a complete set of xt brakes last year. Law of supply and demand. Not that I'm singling out this shop it seems that every where you look the prices for Shimano components has skyrocket. That if you can find them. Same goes for Sram. It also looks as if some of the small parts were missing (Olive and grommet) and the yellow plastic block used to stabilize the hydraulic tube for trimming. I'm sure that the brake will work just fine one I get it installed

These brakes are a snap to install. Definitely bleed after install. Modulation is better than I thought it would be, I bedded them in which will help provide consistent bite. The are leaps and bounds better than cable actuated. A torn rotator cuff and PT ?? hold me back from a full review, but I look forward to spring, a fast recovery (?) and chance to really try out these new shoes!

Such a nice upgrade for my bike. Shimano XT feels so precise
12 September 2022

One fingered braking... I had to teach myself to use a single finger on the rear brake after using two for twenty-years. Still they modulate predictably. Easy installation, no issues and a super easy bleed. If I had an knock on them, it's having the reach adjustment requiring a screwdriver to adjust instead of a finger adjustment knob. In the end I was happy my hydraulics failed on my other brakes, because I didn't know what I was missing.
