The Action-X change strap features two zippered pockets that can hold most phones, water bottles, or personal accessories. Both the Action-X30 and X50 have an updated side access system with a wider and more versatile opening. Finally, the removable belt makes the Action-X30 a stylish companion in urban environments.

Due to some arthritis, it is easier for me to take my camera backpack off in a certain way. It always ends up face down on the ground, so the rear opening of the Shimoda bags is perfect for me. I gave the regular Shimoda 40L, which I love for my Nikon System and I purchased the Action X30 for my Sony Camera System. I love this bag as well. The one thing I am not so keen on is that the removable waist belt is attached to the rear opening. If you are going to remove the belt, then there is no problem. But if you leave it on, it gets in the way of the zipper. Not a huge deal, but worth the notation.

This is an awesome pack, thoughtfully designed with the adventure photographer in mind! The V2 core unit easily stores three of my lenses and accessories, and I bought the toploader to carry my camera and telephoto lens where they are easily accessible. The side access allows me to swap lenses without setting my whole pack down! Everything is very secure and carries close to my body, which makes maneuvering on unmaintained trails or in crowds of people much easier. I love the roll top as well for quickly stashing a coat or some snacks. I work on ski patrol, and this pack has made carrying my camera gear and the necessary supplies a breeze. I highly recommend this item!

I was looking for a bag that had the space to carry everything I needed on a hike but still be comfortable, durable and keep my gear safe and dry. This bag fits those needs perfectly. Very happy with it so far.

Pros: The quality is unmatched. It looks great and feels great when on. Plenty of space for everything I need for a couple of nights away with my gear.Cons: Price point is quite high, but you do get a lot of product for your money. I hope this bags lasts years into the future!
Pros: So many good points.Cons: It’s very expensive for a bag. My biggest fault with the bag is it’s very difficult to carry a larger tripod. If you use the fold out side pockets the tripod is so high up it tips over and cannot be held securely. I wish the pockets were lower allowing a larger tripod to be carried on either side.
Photo expedition to Costa Rica was a great success with the Shimoda Action X30 back pack. We encountered a lot of rain so it was reassuring that the expensive photo equipment was well protected. The top part allowed carrying various items and on the side, umbrella and tripod.
Haven’t gotten to use it a bunch just yet, but everything on this bag is quality, sturdy and functional! The fit is like no other pack I’ve worn before! It much be those cut out straps…. It’ll be tough to ever buy a different style of pack after using this one!
Loving this bag so far. Functions just as good as any other normal camera bag but with so many more features. Biggest selling points for me are its rugged durability for outdoor adventures, ability to expand capacity with roll top, and adjustability for fit/comfort when wearing on long hikes and/or mountain biking. Overall super happy with this camera bag. For anyone who likes to get outdoors this bag will not disappoint.
This is my first shimoda bag and honestly I am blown away. I'm at the point where I think every other camera bag company should use them as a model. Planning to pick up an explore25 soon. I shoot a lot of action sports and climbing photography which means I usually have quite a bit of non-photo gear with me. This bag has ample space but is still sized so that I can be active while wearing it. Even when it is extra packed out, any weight melts away with this harness system as well. I have put this thing in some tough situations and every time it has exceeded my expectations and even my hopes. 6 stars
I really had high hopes for this bag... but unfortunately it isn't living up to the expectations. I use this bag primarily for travel and skiing/ski touring with my photo gear (A7iii body, 24-70 lens, 80mm prime, DJI pro drone). Heres the scoop:What I like:Comfort, great straps, helmet carry, water bottle/tripod side bags are awesome, roll top with zipper access is well designed, water resistant fabric. What I don't like:The hip strap ripped on my first ski tour. Ripped along the proximal seam and will need to be sent off for repair. For a $300 bag I expect better durability. TBD on their warranty support. The Medium Mirrorless insert is awkward to arrange. It DOES work, but the velcro inserts are not that easy to fit into a workable arrangement for my kit. ... MoreI really had high hopes for this bag... but unfortunately it isn't living up to the expectations. It DOES work, but the velcro inserts are not that easy to fit into a workable arrangement for my kit. Also, the side access for the camera through the side panel/insert is basically unusable for my A7iii. The space is just too tight to access the camera from. So, When you want to grab the camera you have to drop the pack and open the rear access panel. When I have all of my backcountry ski gear loaded, the insert does not fit in the bag, and my shovel and probe do not fit anywhere except in the back panel. It's odd, because there is a holder for the probe inside the front compartment, but the space is too short to fit most probes, you would really stress the zippers to close it in there. So I end up putting shovel and probe in the back panel which works OK, but then I cannot use the insert to carry and protect cameras. In fairness, Shimoda did release a video and states that IF your main use is going to be ski touring then you should buy the X50 instead for the same reasons I mentioned above. But, to me this seems like an oversight in their product development because the X30 is clearly laid out for A frame ski carry, probe/shovel storage... they just didn't get it right on this one.Frame size -- I am 6'0 190 lb athletic build with a broad chest (44in). I have the chest strap fully maxed out and it barely provides enough adjustability to keep the straps pulled in on my shoulders. The strap could be redesigned to work much better. There is room to adjust more, but there is a stitching loop that stops the chinch from drawing down any further. Also, I had to adjust the straps to the Small setting on the pack for the loaded pack to ride properly. I do have a somewhat shorter torso for my height, so that may be the reason, but I rarely need a size small in anything. Just keep that in mind if you are a smaller person.Overall, this bag is soooo close to right, it just needs some tweaking that I believe the company with adjust for future models. Unfortunately for me, this one isn't quite up to my expectations for that price point.
