Shun Classic 4 Piece Steak Knife Set

Shun knives are renowned for their razor sharp cutting edge! They are made in Japan where samurai sword making gave rise to crafting these exceptional knives. Shun uses extremely hard VG-MAX steel as its core and layers it in 34 layers of stainless steel on each side of the blade. The layers of stainless steel protect the VG-MAX steel and provide the engaging Damascus finish. Shun knives are sharpened to a 16 degree angle on each side to allow for paper thin slicing. The cutting edge is VG-MAX steel hardened to 61 degrees Rockwell so it will rarely need sharpening. These knives have narrower, lighter blades that reduce fatigue when compared with most western knives. The handles are D shaped for an ergonomic fit. They are extremely durable and moisture resistant. The ebony PakkaWood handles have a classic presence and the metal end cap serves to protect and balance the knives!!! Shun, the appearance is unmistakable, the performance unforgettable!

A very good steak knife - like slicing through butter. No serrated edge so doesn't tear steak. They are very expensive though but I guess you have to pay for quality.

Was a bit skeptical about buying Japanese knives from Australia destined for New York. While the journey took about 3 weeks, include one in US Customs in Chicago, the knives arrived two days after release. They were extremely well packed and the knives themselves are a work of art. A perfect gift for the intended. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I've used and tested plenty of different brand of steak knives (Laguiole, wusthof, dalstrong, and zwilling to name a few) before settling on these. They don't come with a block or a nice box that you can store/display them in, so you'll need a knife block or something to hold them. The box they ship in is the one you see in the picture, minus the silver Shun emblem (mine was just an empty square cut-out), and is made of cardboard with styrofoam cut-outs for the knives. It's a nice, but large box, so I wouldn't suggest to store them in it unless you have a large drawer. The knives are extremely sharp right out of the box, so you don't need to sharpen them before using them. I've had them for about a year now, use them ~3 times a week, and they still cut the same way ... MoreI've used and tested plenty of different brand of steak knives (Laguiole, wusthof, dalstrong, and zwilling to name a few) before settling on these. They cut all sorts of meat with ease and make eating fancy steaks that much more of a joy. Since they are made of VGmax steel, they require a bit more care compared to other metals. The knives are very expensive, but you get what you pay for and they are extremely well made and sharp. If you have the cash or are a steak enthusiast, maybe take a look at these knives, as they have impressed me in every way (expect the box).

Great knives
21 March 2018

Love these knives. Already have 4 Shun steak knives, which I purchased a few years ago, and wanted a complete set of eight. These are quality cutlery, well made and attractive. The new discounted retail price is now $319 + tax, previously $299.00. These are a great buy at $253.00 and well worth the expenditure. Product was boxed in manufacturers retail packaging. Arrived quickly, within three days of placing the order.

Shun Knives

What a pleasure these knives are to use! They are coveted in my family and add an elegant look to the table setting. Slice meat like cutting butter. Not only do I collect but they are now gifts to my children setting up their new home. What a pleasure to give a gift you know is going to become a lifetime treasure.

Excellent knives. A “cut” above the better German brands which I’ve used for years, and still like/enjoy. Smooth sharp cuts at angle or straight down.

Stunning, durable, sharp knives

I bought these a few months ago, and just love them. The sharpness out of the box was stellar, and the handles beautiful. They are easy to hold whether your hands are large or petite. Great addition to the rest of my knives!

Wonderful Gift
31 August 2020

I purchased these knives for my brother and his wife for a milestone birthday gift. They’re beautiful, and also a great present, especially during this year when we’re all spending much more time at home, and cooking at home. Highly recommend, to recreate a steakhouse experience at home!
