Shun Premier Nakiri Knife 14cm

Shun Premiere knives combine a number of advanced elements to truly stand apart from the crowd. The core of the Premier blade is VG-Max steel which is supported by 34 layers of stainless steel on each side of the blade. The layering of steel on the blade creates a Damascus finish which is hammered for a breath taking finish! The VG-Max steel, hardened to 61 degrees Rockwell, creates the cutting edge of the blade. It is designed to handle being sharpened to a very narrow angle. It will hold its razor sharp edge requiring infrequent sharpening. The hand hammered finish reduces friction and keeps foods from sticking to the blade. The walnut-colored PakkaWood handle is as comfortable as it is beautiful. The aesthetic of the Premier line catches your eye and the extraordinary performance seals the deal. The appearance is unmistakable, the performance unforgettable!

We've only had our Nakiri for a short time, and have only used it three times. It is amazing to use, cutting through asparagus stalks with an ease , and even making extra thin slices of an over-ripe tomato without crushing the tomato. We are very please with this purchase.

Do not buy brittle steel breaks easy.Purchased from William Sonoma used by responsible owner however my bladed chipped where it was not repairable. Use cutting meat like raw chicken, pork, and veggies like carrots broccoli and other asian foods. We did cut pork ribs but never through bone. The knife cracked prepping the pork ribs again no bone or soft bone. Shun said to send it in for evaluation cost me almost 40 to send it in. They send it back not repaired and say it's not warranty related. I had sent a pic to them and they told me to have them look at it. Not only am I out the 165ish for the knife now to 40. Exceptional knife!!

I have Ben using this knife for over a month now and feel I can give a considered opinion on this knife. The reality is that this is truly an exceptional knife. The quality of this knife is indisputable, but it is the balance & functionality that makes it stand above any knife I have used. I have a shun santoku knife with a Ken Onion handle that is my utility knife and has always impressed me, but it doesn’t even compare or this Nakiri blade for chopping and processing quickly and precisely. Don’t hesitate to purchase this knife!

Fragile knife, easy to chip
10 September 2023

The knife is quite fragile. I used it less than 5 in month and a half so I didn't really bother returning it but the front got chipped with very minimal usage. I didn't use it on anything hard and used a very soft wood cuttingboard. I really want to like the knife but since I got it shaved down it lose it value quite a bit.

I love my nakiri!
11 August 2021

My husband gifted this knife to me a couple of months ago. I absolutely love this knife. I was a little concerned it would b too much blade for me to handle properly but there’s perfect balance and y when handling it. It’s super sharp, handles well, even with semi wet hands. You can work quickly with this t and feel perfectly safe doing so. The one thing I don’t really like is that there’s no sheath that actually fits this blade length. I use the cardboard sheath that came with it.

Not Sharp Enough
24 December 2022

Love the design. It's a beautiful knife. And it's reasonably sharp, but given the reputation of Shun, I am disappointed that it is not sharper. I have knives that haven't been sharpened in a year that are sharper. I suppose I could try to sharpen it myself to get a better edge, but it's baffling that it did not arrive razor sharp.

Sharp as a razor blade.
3 December 2021

After decades of using a German brand 5.5 inch knife for weekday meals, I thought I would give this a try. The long straight blade is excellent for chopping up vegetables. Takes a while to get used to the square front end. I have already cut myself on the back of the blade while rinsing it under water and not minding my thumb. SHARP AS A RAZOR BLADE! Be careful when using it. You will still need European knives for meats and breads.

Shun Premier Nakiri
5 August 2023

The Shun Premier 5.5" Nakiri is an incredible knife and rounds out my knife collection consisting mostly of Wusthof blades, a couple of Cutco knives, and a Shun 8" Chef's knife. I purchased a different Nakiri knife on Amazon over a year ago and although a formidable blade it weighs considerable more. Sur Le Table's sale price of $116 plus free shipping attracted my attention to make this Shun purchase. The knife is stunning in design and lightweight. The hammer finish helps release food while slicing and the razor sharp blade cuts with ease. I use a Kai Shun sharpening steel and leather strop to keep the blade ultra sharp. Great purchase. I cut down the blade protector to use as the Nakiri won't fit in my wood knife block. Great purchase, thanks SLT!

My first experience with House of Knives was excellent. The knife in question was very well priced, shipped out ahead of the estimated date, and I was kept in the loop at each point of the delivery. The knife was very well packed, arrived clean and sharp, and works perfectly for it’s intended purpose (preparing vegetables).I would not hesitate to buy from House of Knives again. In fact, I would actually hesitate to buy from anywhere else.

Superb knife made in Japan
11 February 2020

I did not expect anything less than stellar from a handcrafted knife made in Japan...and it did not disappoint. The super sharp blade is stunning with the markings partnered with a beautiful dark wood handle. I used it the same day it arrived and it cut thru everything like butter. the knife is perfectly balanced which makes it very easy to cut, slice, chop any vegetables, fruit & meat. I like the wide blade with the square end so i can flatten & mince, then slide it on to the blade to transfer. This is an amazing knife and I would recommend it anyone.
