This knife is awesome! Beautifully made. Just used it out of the box on three cases of chicken and still cuts veggies like butter. The price is just the best for this knife. Looks like I'm retiring my super used up expensive cleaver for this quality well balanced cleaver. Extremely recommend to all you cooks out there. No need to spend $250-350 bucks when this cleaver stand up to my kitchen abuse. Awesome, period!!!

I've had the fortune to use almost all of the lines of Shun in the last year with very positive experiences. This knife is a fine knife for someone looking to step up from cheap store bought knives. It's sharp out of the box and stays that way with careful maintenance and care. It's mirror finish should never be cleaned with any abrasive scrubbers like on 1 side of some sponges. Metal is VG10 which is what shun uses for it's higher end offerings: Classic and Premier.Cons. Handle is plastic and cheap just doesn't have that special feeling in the hand other lines of Shun have. The profile is a bit thinner than I like, leaning more towards a Japanese Gyotu knife.
Never handled such a sharp knife. A bit intimidated to be honest...And also hesitant to use lest its pristine edge be dulled. To date it has chopped parsley and also cleaved paper thin slices from a tomato--brilliant. This is a light knife so feels much different than my 'normal' which is the heavier German/Euro style knife. Light = fast so tracking where the edge and tip are will take some practice/concentration. Like driving a sports car--gotta be careful, but much fun to be had.... Still in the honeymoon phase, we'll how it shakes out. Get one.

We have a number of the Classic Shun knives and didn't even know about the Sora collection before this magically showed up at our house. While this does have a plastic handle (as opposed to the wooden Classic ones), I feel there's the same quality steel as the pricier collections. I've been using this for nearly a year to get enough use to give a good review, and I use it every day. It's a fabulous knife, hasn't dulled, cleans very easily, and stands up to a ton of use on everything from pineapple skin to chicken breasts and tomatoes. There isn't the weight to the handle like the Classic ones, but some with weaker wrist musculature may find that to be a plus. This is a great entry level to Shun cutlery. It is extremely sharp and with the forged S10 steel will hold an edge very well. I would prefer a simpler style for the handle but it seems very well made and I will probably come to love it.

This Shun Sora Chef's Knife is perfect for me! Lightweight and it cuts everything so easily. Always wanted a Shun knife and it's a great addition to my Sabatier knives. It was listed as a 6 -inch knife, but the blade is 8 inches - from the heel to the tip - even better! Will sharpen with a Japanese wet stone.Highly recommended!
I was expecting this knife to be a thicker blade. It's a very light knife. The handle is comfortable but the grip does not feel 100%. The edge looked layered and forged but it was just a design. I was the knife to require less maintenance vs some of my other German knife but it requires regular sharpening to perform well. Overall I am not satisfied with this purchase.
