One of the world's best-selling, single-element, condenser mic, the BETA 87A puts singers on a pedestal. Tailored frequency response concentrates on the upper midrange to raise vocal presence in the mix. So voices cut through clearly and resonate deeply with your audience. The supercardioid pattern provides maximum isolation of your voice, giving you the chance to shine. Get right up on the mic without overwhelming the sound. Electronically controlled low-end roll-off keeps your bass from blasting over the mix. The advanced cartridge shock-mount system lets you handle the mic a little harder while absorbing any mechanical noise. Add some studio-grade clarity to the live mix. Designed to capture brighter vocals with sparkling accuracy, the BETA 87A brings more crisp to the concert. And the increased presence will have everyone singing your praises.

I use this mic for my clean vocals for rock and metal. Never had any feedback during a show, and it's much easier to deal with the sound guys using this. It cuts through the mix, and is very accurate. I never have to overcompensate in order to sing through it. I use it with normal and operatic singing with rock or metal in the background, and it works like a charm. However, it's so accurate I would not recommend to anyone who is not confident in their performance. My new favorite mic. I can't go back to the shure 58.

Manufacturer Support:Have never had a reason to call Shure.Overall:I purchased this mic from zZounds resealed for a discounted price. Like new, cant tell a difference!Needed it for an extremely loud male thrash punk singer in studio. It performed as expected handling his plosives and shouting. It will also.serve as my new stage mic. I specifically chose the 87C over the 87A as its geared more for male voices. The 87C captures a little more of the low frequencies than the 87A and has much more presence than an SM58 which always sound a little dead or flat to me. This is a really nice upgrade from a 58. If I had to compare the 87C to another mic the closest thing would be an EV410 which I used to put on lead singer in studio for live radio broadcast with full ... MoreManufacturer Support:Have never had a reason to call Shure.Overall:I purchased this mic from zZounds resealed for a discounted price. Usually when I have a loud male singer blaring into the ST55 the bottom end gets a little garbled on the recording. Not the case with the 87C. Good clear definition through all the frequencies. In studio with the thrash singer I wanted that SHURE sound but not quite that over blown screaming into a 57 sound. Mission accomplished. Super happy with my purchase. Kudos to my sales rep John M for the help choosing the resealed. Only gave it an 8 on recommendation because a lead vocal mic can be so specific to the singer and purpose.Home studio set upWindows 10CPU i5 10th genDual SSD 1 Tera byte each16GB RAMREAPER FL STUDIO 20MOTU M4 is the bomb BTW. This mic can do anything. Live Sound, Recording, Vocals, Amps. I have used this mic in many different ways and every way it has a great sound. I believe the best use for the mic is recording vocals. It is very clear and sound great. It also has a pop-filter. I recommend this mic to anyone for any application.

Used for live sound with Allen & Heath WZ4 and QSC 16 kW system. Clear and crisp, very controlable especially going into low note vocals. This is a new purchase. Will have to see how it performs a few more times.
Just bought this mic last night and did my first show with it and WOW! I've been using a Sennheiser e945 and I like the 945 a lot. I was just looking to add a cool new stage mic to my arsenal and this is my new favorite. I was able to boost the monitors much higher with the 87c without feedback. I've never heard myself in the monitor better. It cuts through the mix with plenty to spare. I considered the 87a but went with the 87c because I occasionally use in ears. I'm glad I made this choice. I'm sure I'll be using it for a long time to come. I'm now considering adding a Neumann KMS105 to my collection. I can't imagine it being much better. This mic needs very little eq'ing. With loud stage volumes, this is definitely my new mic of choice. Try it, you won't be ... MoreJust bought this mic last night and did my first show with it and WOW! I've been using a Sennheiser e945 and I like the 945 a lot. This mic needs very little eq'ing. With loud stage volumes, this is definitely my new mic of choice. Try it, you won't be disappointed. I would however, not recommend this to a less than stellar vocalist. It is less forgiving than your normal dynamic mic. It is a condensor so keep that in mind before purchasing. But if you are a pro and if you can really sing, this is one of the very best. Happy hunting!
I borrowed a Sure Beta 87-A from the venue that I work at to see how it sounded. I worked with it for about a month and liked it. I was considering buying on when I noticed that there was a Sure Beta 87-cC available for the same price. I really liked what I was reading in the specs of the mic. I decided to order it to try it out. Sweetwater has a great returns policy if a customer is not satisfied with their purchase. I received the mic a few days later. I worked with it for a couple of days. It had all the characteristics that I liked about the 87-A, but it had a much smoother response in the highs and the lows. The 87-C is now my main mic. I like better every time I use it. John D.
The Beta87C mic is a giant step up from my first mic. I notice the upgrade, sound-wise, no distortion ; an excellent mic in a reasonable price range.
I borrowed one of these a while back and liked it a lot, but put off buying because of the price. Now I think I'll get one. What convinced me was watching Patty Griffin on Austin City Limits last night. She sang through one and she sounded exactly the same as on her studio recordings. Easily one of the best-sounding live (on stage) recordings of female vocals that I've ever heard.
These mics tend to have a thin and harsh sound. They also tend to smooth vocals out a lot. By smooth, I mean that the transients sometimes get lost, or smoothed out. This mic is ok if you are using it for speech, but even still it is thin sounding. I would look elsewhere. If you are really an audiophile, you will not be happy with this mic. Check out a VX5 or AE5400 if you want a condenser...you will be glad you took time to check out something other than the big name of Shure! I think Heil mics sound better and they aren't even condensers!
I use this microphone to sing live and for recording, i use it for pop music and for opera too and it work perfect with bouth styles. I am very happy wjth this microphone and i will buy an other one...
