The Sigma lens is a very good lens. I am using it on a Canon EOS M6 Mk2 with a lens adapter which has proved to be a very good fit. The auto focus is excellent, as is the image stabilization. The zoom is very smooth, and the macro capabilities are amazing. It was excellent value for money, and the Adorama shipment was as advertised. I highly recommend this lens. You will not be disappointed

I really like this lens and I recommend it to anyone as a kit upgrade. It checks all the boxes of high quality glass: great sharpness, great contrast and colors and very little distortion. The focus seems to be spot on, right out of the box, I haven't had to connect it to the dock to adjust anything so far. It is quite heavy for the size but feels well built. I have read elsewhere about potential lens creep in either this or the older models of this lens but I haven't experienced it in my lens. I can see, however, that due to the weight of the lens, it takes just a minimum force to extend the lens barrel when pointing down. But it hasn't been a problem so can't hold it against the lens. It's a must buy for a standard range zoom with high aperture.

Have been without a mid-range zoom for a while since I bust both my 18-200 and later my 18-70 in falls/drops. Was considering the Nikon 16-85 mm f3.5-5.6G which I borrowed briefly and quite liked, however, then found rumour that it was supposed to be imminently replaced with a f4 version. However, I gave up waiting for this f4 (actually likely to be f4.1-4.9) version this Summer as needed something to use for mid range - have 10-24, 35 mm f1.8 and a 70-210 but lost my 50 mm f1.4 so mid range a bit uncovered. The lens is weighty but not too much so and balances nicely on my D7000. Seems very well made and good looking - much better quality than for example my daughter's Nikon 18-55 VR and I would judge better build than my Nikon 10-24. Smooth zoom action, no lens creep. Very sharp indeed with good colour. Focuses fast and I find the bokeh pleasant. The macro while obviously not for 1:1 small bug work is ideal for casual use such as my habit of snapping garden flowers.When considering this review the only demerits from my perspective that would make it not quite 'perfect for 5 stars are very minor - the zoom action is opposite twist to that I have been used to with Nikkors (so what), no weather sealing gasket at mount (not a determined wet weather photographer) and sometimes seems very slightly slow to 'wake up'. Otherwise excellent - would really give it 4.5 stars and highly recommended, this will not be coming off my camera often for a long time.Icing on the cake is that Sigma have just announced a 4 year warranty for all Art, Contemporary and Sport lenses purchased after 1st July (I bought 17/7/13) so have bumped it to 5 stars for that as excellent value for money.(p.s. good service from Wex as usual)
Excellent high performing general purpose zoom. Stellar for portraits, close in nature, landscapes, close in sports--especially poorly lit indoors, Great Close Focusing for that near Macro shot you want of details on objects, plaques and descriptive signs for documentation--better than notes. Stabilization is excellent.The only downside is weighs a pound, which is due to the f2.8-f4 max aperture. The performance proves to be worth it, but it does seem to get heavier as the day goes along.

The auto-focus is fast, accurate, and very decisive. The bokeh is a very pleasant surprise; that, coupled with the focal length range, enables the 17-70 to do admirable portraiture. BTW, don't let anybody tell you differently: you'll have no problem generating background blur with f/4 at 70mm.The lens is wide enough to capture decent landscapes, but this is probably the weakest part of the 17-70's repertoire. Why? Because the edges get a little soft at 17mm (up to around 20mm) and stopping down doesn't help very much. It's not horrible; in fact, in my opinion, it's at least as good as the kit lenses the Sigma will replace for most buyers. But compared to the end-to-end sharpness in the middle part of its focal length range, which is superb, it's a noticeable fall-off. For critical landscape work, I'd probably reach for another lens. This is the only thing keeping me from giving this lens 5 stars.The macro capability is a really nice bonus. I think it's great for "casual" macro work -- close-up photos of flowers, coins, jewelry, and such. But the minimum focusing distance combined with the reduced magnification at 70mm from lens breathing, means that your working distance with this lens is extremely small. Small enought to create lighting problems and scare off tiny critters you're trying to shoot. If I were doing "serious" macro work I'd want a more serious macro lens, but for just dabbling with it like I do, this is great.
Purchased for my T6i with great results beyond my expectations! Build quality is excellent, connection ring is made of metal. Produces tack sharp pictures with great bokeh. Have some weight to it, heavier than the camera body not a problem for me. Zoom and focus ring feel smooth autofocus is quiet. This is my go to lens for all my purposes. Macro works great to be just inches from touching the glass. I highly recommend this lens if you're looking for great focal length, big aperture range, macro all on a budget. I also recommend using the USB dock to calibrate if necessary.

Each situation resulted in near prime lens sharpness. Astrophotography was a bit difficult because the lens can focus past infinity and the throw isn't very long, so making micro adjustments is pretty hard to pull off. I am extremely happy with my SIGMA f2.8 17 mm to 70 mm zoom lens! I find it most useful. I square dance allot and take pictures of my friends. so the ASP-C cropping is 1.5 , and in 35 mm terms, I have a 28 mm to 105 mm ZOOM LENS. This is excellent to get large groups of people or to focus on one person, like the Square Dance Caller! It is excellent in low light and in bright lights. I use it mainly indoors and this is an excellent choice for a lens.
the lens is hefty for its size. well-made, good fit and details. the lens takes good pictures, and the zoom range is very handy. the one drawback is that the lens does not let in enough light. i expected to be able to take pictures in lower light situations, but the lens struggles in this area. I realize that f2.8 is not a huge aperature, but i expected a bit more. in mid to bright light situations, this lens rocks! i took pictures of the high school track meet, and all but the fastest feet and hands were well in focus and not blurred. overall a good buy, and fairly versatile, except for low light.
