At first I absolutely loved the setup and thought I would never grow tired of having the 27mm married to the x-mount, but after about 6 months of shooting, I did. Personally, I have always been someone that has gravitated toward the usefulness/freedom of a zoom lens, and I started shopping around, but didn't want to spend a fortune since the Fuji setup is not my main system. This lens allows me to be much more creative with my images, and I find myself picking up the XE-4 much more often now (as I've only had the lens for about one month). I play around quite a bit with the film simulations from Fuji, and this lens complements the image quality SOOC very well. I am so happy with Sigma and this purchase, and that is ultimately what it's all about--going out and shooting more images with a system you love. I would definitely recommend this lens be in your kit.

If you are looking at this lens you are probably also considering the first party Fuji zoom lenses like the 16-50mm f2.8-4.8 which doesn't have constant f2.8 aperture but gains a little wider view at 16mm and has better weather sealing. I wanted f2.8 throughout the range for the option of shallower depth of field and better low light shooting more than I missed the weather sealing. 35mm full frame equivalent is my most used focal length ... MoreThere's no perfect lens but this lens makes good trade-offs for my travel photography. I wanted f2.8 throughout the range for the option of shallower depth of field and better low light shooting more than I missed the weather sealing. 35mm full frame equivalent is my most used focal length though so the 18mm low end (28mm equivalent) was fine with me. Although it would have been nice 16mm instead of 18mm, I may have used 16mm only rarely; meanwhile I use f2.8 fairly often. My main complaint with this lens is a small thing: when the lens hood is attached backwards for storage, the hood blocks most of the zoom ring. This is annoying for me since it means that I can't have the lens hood attached backwards in my bag and quickly pull out the camera to take a quick shot. Because I like to pack light and am afraid of losing a lens hood, I think this might mean that I might not carry the lens hood. I have had other compact zooms before that didn't have this problem, either because the hood was shorter or the zoom ring was closer to the camera. It's annoying but not a reason to forgo this lens.

First, the quirks. There is no aperture ring on this lens. Huh. A bit of a disappointment if you're accustomed to all the controls where you can touch them. You'll need to program the front (or rear) command dial to set the ƒ stop. The lens does not appear to hold focus when changing the focal length. Now for the fun – the focal length gamut and fast maximum aperture make this a great travel lens. I am biased toward prime lenses, but this ticks all the boxes for me in a zoom lens. Pleasant bokeh, fast focus, etc. If you're focusing manually, you might find the focus ring to be backwards, but that's an easy adjustment. There's a lot of plastic here, which you'd expect at this price point, and it does reduce the weight.I'm leaving this on on the camera for a while.

Perfect for video - compact, versatile, great IQ

I use this lens with my FX30 for video. Haven't used it much with my a6700 yet as I mostly wanted it for video work. I have used the Sony 24mm GM, the full-frame Sony 16-35 f4, and the Tamron 17-70 f2.8 with my FX30 and this lens quickly became my favorite for all-around use. The 16-35 f4 is a terrific video lens that can swap between my FX30 and ZV-E1 but sometimes the f4 is limiting with the product footage that I shoot in lower light. The 24mm GM is fine for talking head and some b-roll with fixed focus (because of focus breathing) or super low light, but it doesn't work for a lot of my product shots. The Tamron 17-70 is a great lens but awkwardly long and doesn't balance well if you need to pop it on a gimbal (especially a compact gimbal). This Sigma 18-50 ended up being the sweet spot between versatility, image quality, and size for my purposes. Minimal focus breathing, plenty sharp, f2.8 for low-ish light, and a great minimum focus distance for doing product footage that requires close-ups. I've also used it for talking head footage outdoors and loved the size and weight for carrying around. I do kind of wish it had a 67mm thread size so I wouldn't need to use step-up rings all the time, but honestly that's my only complaint. Overall, I love it.

I bought this lens to replace the 18–135mm kit lens because I was feeling the limitations of the slower f/3.5-5.6 aperture. Although I was giving up the reach of the kit lens, I figured I could buy a dedicated faster zoom lens in the future if I get into sports or wildlife photography. In full frame equivalent terms, this lens covers the 27-75mm focal length which makes this the perfect mid-range zoom lens to take on vacation or shoot everyday photography. The f/2.8 aperture lets in enough light even in relatively low light settings but obviously it’s not an astrophotography lens. This lens does not have any in lens stabilization, which might be a downside for videographers and vloggers but for photography, it’s usually not an issue. What a surprise! I didn't expect that this toy-like looking tiny lens would be so good optically. I paired it with my X-S10. This combination feels and handles perfectly. I didn't miss the aperture ring and OIS at all. I have everything on camera. Amazingly, this combination fits into a Tamrac micro series bag. This bag was designed to fit point and shoot or micro-third camera.I compared the sharpness to my Fujifilm 27mm and 35mm primes given 2.8 and adjusting Sigma to corresponding focal lens. Pictures were taken with flash. Sigma didn't fall back at all. Same detail, contrast color.. not to mention much higher close focus capabilities.I'm selling now my bulky and heavy 28-135mm. I bought the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN on the recommendation of Hugh Brownstone. Even so, I was unprepared for the results.I found that this lens held its own against two primes that should have knocked it out of contention: the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN C and the highly touted Fuji XF 18mm f1.4 R LM WR. This lens is a must-have for travel

If you are using a Sony APSC camera (A6000 series), this lens is a must-have for general photography. The zoom range is very versatile, from wide-angle shots to short telephoto. The f/2.8 aperture available throughout the entire zoom range is the killer feature of this lens; most other zoom lenses' aperture values decrease as you zoom in. Not with this one. This is truly some magic to keep that f/2.8 even at the full 50mm focal length. Even better, this lens is incredibly small and light considering its offerings. The only negative I find, is that the 50mm focal length at the top end is a tad short, I always wish it had just a little more zoom available, however, its a fair tradeoff for what this lens provides. If you are a walk-around travel photographer, taking street shots in the day time at varying distances, this the THE LENS YOU WANT. This single lens replaces almost my entire travel photography kit. I typically pair this with the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for low light street shots while traveling, using the Sony A6500 camera. Its a really great pairing, and between the three (camera body + 2 lenses) I have a super solid, lightweight, space-saving travel photography kit.

Wanted to love this lens but....
17 January 2023

I recently bought the Fuji XT-5. I already own the Fuji 16-55 - 2.8 but it's SO big/heavy I rarely use it. Saw how small this Sigma 2.8 was, plus read several very positive reviews so decided t buy it. Long story short I found this lens to be super soft at some focal lengths, ESP 18mm. I know most zoom lenses need compromise a bit on the wide and or fully zoomed in ends. Thing is esp around 18-22mm no matter what the aperture I used, a large part of the corners were SUPER soft like almost smearing soft. I'm talking like smartphone soft. I live near some mountains and there's a paved road on a big incline where I can overlook a ton of houses, a lake..and some mountains in the background. Again even if I stopped down to f 7-ish or/f11 all of the houses in the corners ... MoreI recently bought the Fuji XT-5. Again even if I stopped down to f 7-ish or/f11 all of the houses in the corners looked like mush or just lacking any kind of detail. It drove me so crazy I returned to the same spot with my Ricoh GRIII as it's also 18mm - 28mm equivalent full frame.. Even at 2.8 the Ricoh was like 5 times more sharp than this Sigma esp in the corners. Shooting in other settings with this Sigma ex: on streets, buildings etc..I did not notice the wide end being so mushy in the corners, so you may not notice this till you have the opportunity to take some wide landscape pictures. Also I'd like to say MAYBE? this is not so much the fault of THIS lens. I have older Fuji primes too, The 23mm 1.4 and 35 1.4...and though generally sharper than this Sigma, all my older Fuji lenses don't look that great or SHARP overall with the new 40meg sensor. I know Fuji has a recommended list of newer lenses to pair with the new 40meg sensor...My older primes were not on the list..and they are not going to list any third party lenses, aka this Sigma. One other thing I did not like but got used to is, the manual focus ring is totally flush with the barrel. It's almost impossible to use it without being super careful you are not grabbing the barrel too. It's not a big deal, but you will notice this. Now that I bashed this lens, I LOVE the overall size of it, it feels very well made, zooming in out feels smooth and silky. It MAY be this lens may just be better suited for the 24/26 meg Fuji sensors and perhaps you would not notice the almost smearing I saw in the corners on the 40 meg XT-5. I admit I DO pixel peep a bit! If you don't zoom into 100% on a 40 meg photo, this lens renders everything very well, great Fuji color..even rather good overall detail, it focuses quickly and quietly, and I LOVE it's size/LOVE it's price. But unless MAYBE I just got a bad or soft copy which IS possible...this lens overall, is rather soft on my XT5 at least, vs a cyclically sharp type lens, and that may be fine...but doesn't work for my taste.
